EVENT ★ LOST IN TRANSLATION
RETURN TO OSKA ![]() Upon arrival in Oska, new and returning recruits alike will find that something strange is going on. Any attempts to communicate with someone who doesn't speak the same language as you will be just that -- like you don't speak the same language. Let's hope everyone is good at charades, because you're going to be out of luck for a full day. On the second day, a text comes across -- surprisingly intelligible to everyone. Is it over? Well . . . Hello, Audentes. We are currently experiencing magitek difficulties, as you may have guessed already. Temporal insects have arrived with our latest arrivals, and as you may imagine, we have had our paws full. cherenkov: We are working out how to mitigate the pest problem for good. For now, please put your unpleasantly huge feet to use and stomp them out. Or other such methods. crowley: We have created a quick patch to facilitate text-based communications, but verbal translation will continue to be down until the insects are exterminated. Thank you for your patience. It's not over. TEMPORAL INSECTS ![]() This invasive species has worked its way in through the rifts along with the newest batch of arrivals, and information on them is available in the library (provided you can read the language it's written in!). It seems they behave like locusts, living quietly within the space between rifts for many years until their numbers suddenly balloon and they begin to swarm in search of food. These bugs move fast and pack a nasty bite, but are unarmored and easily squished. Each one is about the size of a football, and leaves a little tell-tale slime trail that makes it easy to track. They can cling to any surface, and won't hesitate to leap onto attackers and bite if they feel threatened. One can take a decently sized but non-lethal bite out of someone, but a number of them together will pose a real danger. If punctured or squished they tend to explode into moderately acidic goo that can cause caustic burns if not immediately washed off. They are attracted to any area of high temporal energy, which can be literally any surface, corner, or point on or within the castle and its grounds. As they begin to feed they cause temporal distortion in the area. This manifests as the immediate area seeming to flicker backwards and forwards through time. An insect gnawing at a table leg in the dining area, for example, might cause the area to stutter between years and years of dinner parties, ghostly attendants of all fashions and species appearing and disappearing as they enter and leave the affected area. An onlooker can't interact with temporal distortions directly, but if the insect is left to its own devices, it will eventually eat through all of the temporal energy and render the immediate area gray, frozen, and completely inert. It's highly recommended you kill or otherwise chase off an insect before it manages this, as it can do irreversible damage to a world. For affected Oska locations, please see this post. OOC NOTES The translation errors will continue through the rest of the month. For more information or to ask questions, please check the plotting post here! New bounties are available in Oska! Please remember to fill out your squidge success form before August 31, 23:59 UTC! Filling the form out is mandatory, even if you do not have the 3 squidge threads. You will not pass AC if you do not fill out the form. Characters who have been accepted on August 20th are exempt. Please direct questions relating to the success form here. |

Anyways, after a moment of paralysis.. he burns a few bugs in his path with a flick of his hand trying to get to the ginger haired woman. He dodges that staff she is wielding by a close shot, looking rather startled when she swings it again.]
I can help you with those bugs if you need to.. you sound like you're really in a pinch. [To say the least. You know, cause she was screaming her lungs out running away from these bugs. With a fist, he incincerates the bugs in her direction calling out the following attack name. ] Hiken!
[The bugs are hopefully burnt to a crisp then. He adjusts his gloves. Maybe it'll be enough for the woman to finally calm down for a moment.]

She barely spares him a glance, noting the odd clothes with a detached curiosity -- in a situation like this, it's the bugs straight from hell that are occupying most of her brain capacity, she'll wonder why the clothes style seems somewhat familiar later on!!
But his words surely stop her in her tracks; she whirls around, tear-tracks on her face still, blubbering, ] Yes!! Yes, please kill them! They're going to eat us alive! Dissolve us in a puddle of acid!! Kill them before they kill us!
[ Her voice is high with the kind of abject panic that takes over your entire mind... but there's very few things a good shock won't dispel, and so she finds herself forgetting all about the bugs as the attack sounds out, the fire engulfing the hallway in front of her.
To say she is stunned would be a gross understatement. ]
That... that was... Ace-kun's...!! [ WH???? A T??????? ]

[He lifts his hat then, leaning in and taking a close up look at her face. Well, she's familiar.] Nami, of the Straw Hat Pirates? [A impeccable grin and a chuckle.] I hope Luffy isn't giving you too much trouble.
1/3 im gomen
[ Why does this name sound so familiar? Why does it feel like she's--
Like she's... ]
EEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHH???
no subject
That Luffy!! He didn't even think to mention details about his own brother!! How does he think saying someone helped out and leaving it at that is sufficient?? Honestly!!!
no subject
I mean... mm, you're right, I'm Nami, navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates! It's nice to meet you, Sabo-kun!
1/3 - never be sorry as nami is just perfect

no subject
Oh. it must've... slipped his mind. [I mean nothing gets through little brother, but he accepts him for who he is future Pirate King and all.] Though if you ask him, I'm sure he'll mention it.
[Sabo's hand scratches behind his head out of carelessness, and makes a smile back at her.] It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Nami. [He takes off his hat and swings his arm a bit until he's bowing slightly to the woman.]
no subject
Nami lets out a sigh and nods. ]
Mmm, he mentioned your name as one of those who helped him at the Coliseum... thank you!! [ She beams at him, her gratefulness obvious-- Luffy is Luffy, after all, and she's glad they had some help with Doflamingo and the Marines.
As Sabo bows to her, she looks charmed for, oh, about maybe two seconds... before muttering, ] I really don't understand it, how is it both his brothers are so polite? It's like a whole different world...
[ And then, louder, ] So what were you doing in Dressrosa? Were you looking for Luffy?
no subject
No.. not really. It was by chance we got to meet! I was under an investigation mission at Dressrosa and found out about the Mera mera fruit being used as a colesium prize so I requested to go under cover for that. [A pause.]I had found out Luffy was one of the participants. When I met face to face with him later, I told him I would not let him have the Mera mera fruit... not knowing who I was at first. [He chuckles for a moment, remembering how fearful he was with how Luffy was so ready to fight him.] I promised after that I'd win the prize and take the fruit instead, inheriting Ace's powers....[He holds a hand to his heart, eyes closed while his head is slightly tilted down. The same hand lit brightly, illuminating his face.]
no subject
[ She smiles a little, unable to help it, watching the flames-- it had been good, to see Ace here, but it's also good to know his will lives on. That in this one way, Luffy still has both his brothers watching over him. ]
And you kept your promise... that's good! [ Also... because she's nothing if not curious: ] What kind of a mission was that?
no subject
It was a mission that involved infiltrating weapons that were being supplied in Dressrosa. The one in charge was under a code name, "Joker".
[Sabo then crosses his arm, giving a smirk.] I was grateful to participated in the mission. I was really happy to see Luffy after so long.
no subject
So in the end, Doflamingo was dealing with weapons, as well. I'm glad you all caught him!!
[ Her beaming smile dims somewhat, a dire contrast to Sabo's obvious happiness about seeing his brother and being able to help him; she looks down and breathes out. ] I'm really happy you're here, Sabo-kun. Luffy... it'll be good for him. Sanji-kun and I are here with him, and Torao-kun and Coby, too, but it's different. [ She was there, this time, when he had to deal with Ace's loss for the second time... and she can only hope Sabo's presence here will ground her captain a little bit. ]
no subject
[He's not about taking all the credit. His younger brother and his crewmates did more work with the Dressrosa than the underground things he was in charge of.]
I'll be sure to give him a lot of attention when I see him. [Her worry while.. concerning for him he tries not to bide by. He knows that she probably has a lot on his mind as much as he did over Ace's death. The other people mentioned... Torao.. Coby? Huh. He'll have to ask about it later.]
Thank you, Nami.
