EVENT ★ WELCOME TO PERDITION'S REST
ARRIVAL Recruits leave Oska at midday, with about 10 minutes of final warning given from over jewelcomms. Then the white mist rises as rifts open, and Oska is left behind. When they arrive in the new world, they’ll find themselves aboard a train, specifically seated in the coach traveling compartments. The other passengers -- humanoids with muted skin tones and bright eyes -- have already been notified of their arrival, so although there will be a good deal of curious staring, particularly from children, no one is going to be very alarmed at the strange, eclectic assortment of aliens that suddenly show up on board. It seems that, for once, recruits will enjoy a peaceful arrival. The dusty scenery flashes by placidly outside the windows, the rumble of wheels is constant and soothing, and there’s even a snack cart that makes its way around (the snacks aren’t free, though -- recruits are provided a modest sum of Qorral currency, and the locals are already interested in getting in on it). BAD COMPANY ![]() And what needs doing is to fend off the troupe of bandits that have decided that this train looks ripe for the plucking. They board from the gaping hole they blew in the last car and begin shooting their way up the length of the train, robbing as they go, but they also circle out on their horses (mechanical and only vaguely horse-shaped four-legged contraptions that easily keep pace with the train) to provide an armed and unfriendly escort. They’ll shoot through the windows if anyone looks like a troublemaker, and are old hands at ducking to the other side of their horses to use them as cover from any return fire. The conductor and all present passengers would really appreciate a hand from any recruits who feel like stepping up. Those not quite ready to engage in a shootout can always keep the civilians locked into the compartments company. They, especially the children, might need some calming words (and the sage advice to keep away from the windows, and stop making faces at the bandits). The bandits put up a pretty good fight, but will eventually be driven away (hopefully without having snagged too many ill-gotten goods from the hardworking citizens of Perdition’s Rest), and peace falls back over the train. The passengers will be a bit frazzled afterward, though, and no one can quite ignore that whistling sound caused by the missing back wall of the final train car. It’s a long two more hours before they reach their destination. WELCOME TO PERDITION’S REST ![]() A dusty wooden sign swings on rusted hinges overhead as the train pulls into the station: PERDITION'S REST. The engine finally stills with one puff of smoke, and as the passengers begin to disembark, recruits will find a small group awaits them. The Mayor, his aide, and the sheriff are gathered just outside the train station, and once everyone is more or less off the train and conveniently gathered, the Mayor will clear his throat for attention. "I'm guessing y'all had a long ride here, didn't you?" He addresses the crowd calmly, with the kind of voice that doesn't need to be raised much to be heard. "Heard about them bandits. They ain’t gonna trouble you here in town, but best mind your wanderin’. I'm Mayor Mordecai Jones, and Perdition's Rest welcomes your company. You'll find our businesses hospitable and our services ready. We're a quiet place, keep mostly to ourselves and don't bother none. You'll do just fine here if you abide that." The aide waits quietly as the Mayor speaks, while the sheriff eyes the gathered bunch with a resigned wariness. She, and a few other locals who would be willing to speak up if asked, are of the opinion that they've gotten by just fine for 30 years without anyone's help, and they don't figure they need it now. But they'll tolerate the meddling, so long as everyone plays nice. Mayor Jones's speech draws to a close with a last note that trouble can be brought to him or to Sheriff Rosamund Holladay, and he, his aide, and Sheriff Holladay break the meeting without further ceremony and head away. Welcome to Perdition's Rest. It's recommended that you look around a little, familiarize yourself with the place, and find lodgings. It's going to be home for a while. OOC NOTES Welcome to Mission: Perdition's Rest! This mission will last for around three months, currently slated to end in mid-December. /holds hands out. DRAGONS (i)
When the dragons from Hanzo obliterated the bandits inside the train, Sabo's jaw merely dropped. It was already a wonder for him to interact with a guy whose family is assoicated with the fire breathing creature. But to see such a powerful attack wiping out so many of the enemies in such beautiful form, Sabo is beyond moved by such a display of power.
Oh the amount of things he wants to ask right now.
After Hanzo is finished with the final move, he side steps a bit closer to the man. He blast some fire himself to deter any leftover bandits while trying to eye at the man he is amazed by.]
That attack back there? That was really really cool. Oh man, I gotta see it again. [He shoots a flame at a bandit that was getting close to the two.]
IMAGINE DRAGONS
This guy. One of Luffy's brothers. He'll tolerate him, but only barely.]
I only do it when necessary. We were surrounded, now we are not. I would not waste the precious time of the dragons.
[Without giving a hard look at who approaches, Hanzo fires his arrow, and it lands between the eyes of another bandit.]
no subject
And it was really good too...
[He inflames his boots and circles the fire around himself, and then smiles at the guy in hopes of finding another way to see his dragons in action.]
How about you teach me then? Please?
no subject
Absolutely not!
It is a family trade, and you are very much not family.
comes in.. an eternity late.. with starbux
Instead of being offended by the older warrior's attitude or being annoyed that he won't show off those cool and awesome dragon moves, he puts his hat down instead and asks the next question, as if out of nowhere.]
What's family to you then? [He's not convincing you to be family with him, Hanzo. But rather something more.. sincere.] It must run deep in your blood to have such mystical creatures be part of that.
no subject
Someone of my blood, or someone I take into my life.
[For him, family is also a serious matter. There is Genji, who is all he has left of his blood, and beyond that...
He is not certain. Maybe Jesse--]
My brother has a similar technique. I am certain he would show it off, if you asked.
no subject
While I do not have blood related relatives I consider close, I would definitely consider someone I take into my life as family.
[In such seriousness as well, he takes this by heart. He knows his parents are not the most terrible.. but terrible and traumatic enough to not want to associate with them.]
I would love to see that. But why is that you would not want to show off your dragon, while he does? [He crosses his arms, looking up at the man, while making a swift kick of a bandit almost running into the man.] Is it that exhausting?
no subject
[The words are spoken coldly as he focuses on his next arrow.]
I do not get tired. But I do not wish the waste the time of the dragons. They should not be summoned for a mere demonstration, but when I truly need them.
no subject
My blood parents were rather snobbish.. and didn't think highly of a lot of people, especially the commoners. While they did raise me in my early years.. it was rather rough, and their intentions were rather greedy.
[He dusts off the hat, and puts it back on his head, now resting his hands behind his back.]
Yet your brother thinks differently? Why is that? [Knowing his brothers share similar thoughts with him, he hasn't had much differences besides their appearances.]
no subject
[He is curious to ask more, but perhaps when they are not being attacked by bandits.]
Ask him. [It's spoken stiffly.] Genji, in his youth, had always been more of a show off.
...Though perhaps he has grown out of it.
no subject
[He only wishes he had parents that were even a speckle like Dadan and the bandits up on the mountains. Rowdy as they were, they were the type of parents that Hanzo had just explained.]
Do you not know then? Brothers should know why they act the way they do. [He looks right at the man while he covers his whole arm with a slick black cover, blocking off another bandit from getting too close.]
But judging from you just said.. you would. You seem a bit secretive about yourself. [He angles down, covering his face.] I hope you aren't keeping anything from Luffy either.
no subject
Do not presume to tell me anything about being brothers with someone.
[It is spoken coldly. It is not a statement he appreciates.
He snorts.]
Were Luffy to ask something of me, I would answer him. You? I owe you nothing, specifically. But he is-- he is my friend. I would answer him.
no subject
I'm glad for that. [He may have some doubts but he's truthful in that. Though he throws something else on the line.]
Just because you owe me nothing doesn't mean it wouldn't hurt to get to know others, is it not? If you're Luffy's crewmate - a part of his team - you must also learn to get along with those close to him as well.
no subject
I must do nothing. I will tolerate you as a teammate, as someone important to Luffy -- but no further.
You have earned nothing from me, save for contempt, perhaps. You pester, you ask, you assume; none of those traits demand respect or answer from me.
no subject
What will it take then, Hanzo? I wish to not just tolerate you. As his brother, it's still my duty to watch over him and to make sure the friends he's with are people I can also trust.
You should know this more than anyone.
no subject
And so is Luffy.
[With a hint of bitterness, he says:] It does not matter how I feel.
If you so desire answers, earn my respect, not my ire. I owe you nothing.
