Her other senses are piqued, eyes bright and alert as she attempts to detect what sight and sound might not. (If the virus could be perceived as 'darkness', the infected as a malicious force, then it should register on her metaphysical radar...)
It doesn't take much hunting on her part, they're close enough that she's snapping back into immediate focus when she hears footsteps breaking across the stairs.
