( there's a few long heartbeats that he stiffens, that are likely only going to make the panic and fear of getting close to someone as far gone as he is worse, and not better. she likely should be afraid, anything and everything he's displayed up until this point — all the people he's hurt, or worse — there's no reason to think she would be any different.
it seems she is, though. somehow, someway, she reaches a part of him that anyone else would argue was already gone. or... well, most would, anyway. the touch is unbelievably unexpected, even for a kid with senses that border on precognitive, and after the terrifying moments of hesitation, he takes a breath like it's the first that hit his lungs in ages. like he's surfacing from something he nearly drowned in. )
