i'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus

CHARACTERS: Shuusei Kagari and Pannacotta Fugo
DATE: Sometime after the return to Oska
WARNINGS: none expected? Will edit if this changes
SUMMARY: Kagari has someone to thank for not kicking him when he was down. That someone just so happens to be from his favorite manga. It keeps Happening.

[It's after they get back to Oska that he starts thinking about it, especially in the later hours. That person from the network, who'd gone out of his way to help him out when he was feeling so angry and frustrated and helpless. It's a weird and uncomfortable feeling in his gut, that sense of gratitude. He'd rebuffed the concern from Sans, thinking it to be disingenuous, and supposedly he'd been wrong. Maya had tried to offer him a distraction, like she always did, but it could only do so much in the state he was in at the time.

Fugo, though. Fugo had understood, in some capacity. Kagari needed a way to vent, and the other had offered him a way to do it safely, without drawing attention. Without judgments or false platitudes, either, and even though it had only been a bandaid upon a gaping wound at the time, he appreciated it.

There had been more important concerns on their plates since, of course, but now that everything's over, some part of him wants to do something. It'd be weird and awkward to just thank the guy out of the blue, though, so he does the next best thing he knows--making food. Of course, cooking for a guy you know has appetite problems is a little complicated, so he actually goes out of his way to look into it in the library (kou-chan would be proud of him), and he planned to go ding-dong-ditch Fugo's room, but then certain Things Occurred. Which is to say, after following hemlock's magitek marker out to his room, he just so happened to see the real name attached to that handle, and he's softly having an existential crisis staring at his bracelet when Fugo just so happens to open his door.

Leaving him quite literally holding the bag--aka food that was intended as an anonymous gift--and no proper explanation.]

Uhh...you're friends with Giorno, right?

[Oh fuck, shit. He's friends with Giorno. There's no possible way there just so happens to be regular people named Giorno and Fugo who Just So Happen to look exactly like their manga selves and know each other. That's ridiculous. He has to invoke Occam's Razor at this point, right? So is there really a universe where Jojo's exists...? Does that mean he could really meet his favorites from other things, too?

Hope is a dangerous thing, for someone like Kagari. He tries to shut down on that line of thinking before he gets himself all carried away on something that might not even be true here and now.]

He, uh, he and I had lunch but we couldn't finish, so he said I should give the rest to you.

[This is a lie. This is such transparent, confirmable bullshit in every dimension that even Kagari doesn't even know what to do with it except go down with the metaphorical ship. He's not a liar habitually, after all, has never really had much reason to be--not when Sybil already knew all it needed to about it--and being caught on top of said gentle existential crisis has him flustered.

He's ready for another rift to come swallow him now, this is the worst.]

[There's someone at the door. Fugo knows this because he's been lying in bed for a while now, eyelids heavy and head groggy, trying to convince his fingers to twitch--step one of pushing off the blankets and stumbling out of bed. The sound of the doorbell jumpstarts the process in a way he couldn't quite manage on his own. Later, he won't be able to quite remember the trip down the stairs from the room's loft to the door; but he does make it in time to catch Kagari in his moment of shock.]

H'lo? [Fugo runs one hand through his (notably very mussy hair) hair and squints blearily at Kagari and his bag of food. It takes a long moment for Kagari's first question to sink in--but when it does, Fugo half-chuckles.] Yeah, sure. Are you--

[Looking for him is what he means, but then the conversation moves on. Oh. That... food's for him. Kagari and Giorno hand lunch together--(and here he has to look back and realize that, yes, he was alone in the room when he woke up)--and Kagari is here... with the leftovers? There's something odd about this set up that he can't quite put his finger on. ... well, he'll figure it out later.]

Oh. Thanks? [God, what to do next. Right. Take the food. Fugo reaches out for the bag with one hand and awkwardly rubs a stiff spot on his neck with the other. Kagari... looks like he wants to die on the spot. For some reason? He's not awake enough for this conversation yet. Maybe it's not even happening. He's probably still just dreaming. Fuck, he hates dreams like this.] You want to come in?

[It's not hard to tell what Fugo's thinking: something's up is written all over his face. He squints suspiciously at Kagari for a long moment, before stepping aside and holding the door open for his impromptu guest.]

C'mon in. Sorry for the mess, I just woke up.

[Not that there is... really much mess to speak of. The room is conspicuously tidy; the mess Fugo is talking about are two pairs of shoes left at the stairs to the sleeping loft and the unmade bed that Fugo stumbled out of to answer the door. Other than that, there's nothing out of place; not on either of the two desks or in the closet, whose door is standing open. There's even a little mug on the dressing table for Giorno's hairpins.

After Kagari's inside, Fugo takes a moment to close the door-- but only mostly. He sticks his foot between the door and the jam, leaving it open by a gap. Only after he's made sure that the room is still open to the air of the halls does he walk towards a small table, still sleepy, to set the food down. There he finds a glass of water, some aspirin, and an envelope with his name on it written in Giorno's handwriting. Fugo idly inspects it for a moment, before tucking it under his arm so he has both hands free to follow Giorno's unspoken suggestion to take some medicine for his headache.]

Do you want some coffee? Or something. [God, he needs a cup of coffee. How can anyone be reasonably social before their first cup of coffee.] There's tea, I think.
