PLAYER EVENT ★ HELIOLOGY

INTRODUCTION.

It's difficult to tell time without the presence of a sun or moon. There are no stars. The world is in constant blackness, the heavens barely visible from below and the only light artificial. It's been like this for months.

Suddenly, those who expressed interest in observing the sun (or lack thereof) will all at once receive a text message on their ALASTAIR jewellery from 82736775:

Get your shit and go look at the sky. Now's the time. If you need me, I'm around.
It's time to get to work.

OBSERVATION.

Find the highest point you can and point the telescopes at the sky. Should be easy, right?

Be mindful that there are still guards patrolling the city, looking for escaped prisoners, and some citizens would be very happy to tip them off to your presence. There are still animals in the forests to contend with, and there are still nosey citizens who may ask you too many questions. There are also your fellow ALASTAIR agents, who may not be very willing to share the spot they already staked out before you just showed up.

People and animals aren't all you need to look out for, either. Seven hours after the observation starts, there is a lightning storm. It lasts for 30 minutes, bolts of electricity arcing across the sky. It might be a good idea to scurry down someplace lower when this happens -- you know what they say about lightning and height.

82736775 doesn't contact anyone after the initial text, so observers are free to give up whenever they decide they've been sitting out in the freezing dark for long enough.

[ note: even if you didn't sign up, feel free to tag in! your character won't have a telescope but that doesn't mean they can't mingle. ]

[Gilgamesh's demeanor—for what little can be gleaned from an expressionless ball of light—does not change, hearing his voice and seeing his face. Riku appears to be safe, and this man appears different from the network broadcast. Less arrogant, more teasing, as he continues to fly easy circles around.]

I am a being which thrives off such energy. It sustains me.

[And for all his casual attitude, he's tempted to take a bite, but he refrains. The magic boosts Riku up a little further, spins him about.]

How's that human saying go? "First time for everything"? Unless you're too cowardly...

[These are truly schoolyard tactics. He's challenging him on the basis of being a scaredy-cat.]

[ thrives... sustains? oh, he's not sure he likes that, but he's pretty sure that he can hold his own.

of course, reason and logic flies out the window-- ]

I'm not scared! There's a job to do, though--I've gotta find the highest place so we can watch this dumb light show.

Besides, I'm not feeling too good about going off with some stranger who eats energy like mine.

[Gilgamesh touches down and at last appears as he should: as a handsome young man in street clothes that don't make him look much older than Riku himself. He wears a pleasant, even flirtatious smile, and all would be well if not for those red, red eyes of his that hint at wickedness.]

Now, now. I am surely not so strange...

[And to be fair, he doesn't really seem it. Just a little... off, given what he's said already. He steps closer, unfazed by the concept of personal space.]

And you'll find me very well-behaved. I don't go biting without asking first. It's a matter of policy, you see.
darkbarrage: (tch ♞ call in sick on days.)

you keep catching me in between accounts gdit

[ when riku gets a good look at him, he has the decency to look slightly surprised.

the camera really does add on ten years, doesn't it?

he still looks dubious, especially when he steps forward, sending riku back a few steps. ]

Biting? You'd better not have fangs. [ zombies are so much cooler than vampires. ]

I guess you don't look too weird.

[personal profile] babbylon 2016-01-10 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Just don't call him fat, kid, that's bound to escalate real damn fast.]

I would not. It might be said I'm considered a rather handsome member of my species.

[Going by Gilgamesh's standards, he's sitting at the very top of that particular field. But Gilgamesh wastes no more time and goes floating up, up, up off the magic, gesturing for Riku to follow and even holding out a hand should he require it for any steadying.]

Well, come along, then. I don't stop for just anyone.

[Riku would be correct in assuming that this Servant has a knack for running his mouth. Specifically in the romantics department.]
darkbarrage: (speak ♞ left me so empty.)

[personal profile] darkbarrage 2016-01-10 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
You look human. [ blunt.

when gilgamesh holds his hand out, riku squints at it for a good second or two, weighing his options. he knows better than to trust just anyone, and given gilgamesh looks like an adult, riku can't put him in any other category than 'potentially dangerous, probably will use you like a pawn the first minute they get' for now.

that does not mean he can't do recon. ]

What, I'm special? [ he snorts with honest disbelief as he pulls his hood back up, giving a hesitant glance around before he follows. ]

[personal profile] babbylon 2016-01-10 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
I am human.

[Confusing. Probably. Gilgamesh smirks at Riku's conflicted reaction, as if he can read his thoughts, as if he knows, then resumes floating at a leisurely pace. It's an easy way of flying; the magic obeys the body and so an individual in fairly good shape can sail right along without much trouble.

As for being special, well...]

Do not flatter yourself, mongrel. At the moment you rank slightly above "stranger that I'd skewer", settling somewhere in the territory of "extra body I can make use of". It is strictly business that brings me to you, not pleasure.

[...so maybe Riku wasn't too far off the mark with his presumptions, though it's spoken rather flippantly.]
darkbarrage: (hmph ♞ call me crazy.)

Are there a lot of people who aren't human here? It's weird you'd say 'my species' like I'm supposed to think you're some sort of alien.

[ ah, there it is, though.

riku's glad he's started to adapt to this strange way of thinking--going from island boy to warrior is daunting, but he's starting to really understand that being prepared for danger at any turn is a lot more beneficial than it seems. gilgamesh may not be dangerous now, but who knows. he's used to backstabbing.

he glides carefully to keep up with him, though he raises an eyebrow. ]

Yeah, that's something we called 'sarcasm' on my world.

What business?
