PLAYER EVENT ★ HELIOLOGY

INTRODUCTION. It's difficult to tell time without the presence of a sun or moon. There are no stars. The world is in constant blackness, the heavens barely visible from below and the only light artificial. It's been like this for months. Get your shit and go look at the sky. Now's the time. If you need me, I'm around. It's time to get to work. OBSERVATION. Find the highest point you can and point the telescopes at the sky. Should be easy, right? |

[ Gintoki hums lowly, taking another quick peek through the telescope. This is horrible.
Then, with one hand, he outstretches it, making a grabbing motion in the air to emphasize his point, fingers flexing: ]
That such a fine asset be right here.
[ He pulls away from the telescope and looks at her blankly. ]
Sorry if I took your wish. I said it first.
no subject
she looks him right in the eye and then shrugs. ) Oh, no, don't worry about it. What I'd really like right now is a sandwich. ( realistic wishes, realistic goals. ) ...And maybe a quick little look. Seeing is believing, right? Plus, I can't help but think this display isn't completely unintentional.
no subject
Your wish is my command.
[ or something. Go ahead and knock yourself out.
Also, a sandwich does sound good about now. ]
no subject
That's--well, that's certainly something. Not quite the same as what my neighbours regularly put on display. ( not that she's complaining. if it were a couple she'd have looked away immediately; as it is, she appreciates a beautiful woman's body. and is convinced that this lady is letting them have a show if their looks have been able to linger this long. eventually she lowers it but doesn't pass the instrument back just yet. )
Are you feeling hungry?
no subject
See, see. I wish more people were like you and cared about astronomy like this. It's really life changing.
[ The next question gets him to purse his lips. To be honest, he hasn't been eating much lately with his living situation. ]
Are you buying?
no subject
Truly, it gives us insight into the uh...fleeting fragility of human life, which is why we must live in the moment and thoroughly appreciate the beauty before us. If only more people could see it. ( she laughs. and then arches a brow. it's actually embarrassing how much money she has relative to her fellow employees, considering all the currency she left home with is good here. {solid gold coins are always worth something apparently. good to know people will always be obsessive over sweet shiny, shiny gold.} )
Since I asked, I probably should, right? ( she laughs again. ) Maybe The Den is still open? The Inn is okay but I'm getting a little tired of its cookie-cutter 'adventurer's first tavern' aesthetic.
no subject
Yeah, you did ask. It would only be fair. It would also only be fair to buy a couple of rounds of drink while you're at it, too.
[ What have you done. ]
We can talk more about "astrology" together.
no subject
Oh, yes, because fair is only fair, and I've been known for my fair judgment. Which also means I'll know just how many rounds is fair enough.
( four, maybe five, depending on what's being served. being the buyer doesn't mean she's the designated chaperone, but it also doesn't mean she wants to end up being happy to find a fight. she fiddles with the telescope, tries to retract it, and then hands offers it back to him. ) Right, then. I'm guessing it's a hobby of yours? Doesn't seem like too far of a shot.
no subject
[ wow, look at that happy face. He likes free food and drinks— thanks, lady. okay, well. hes' talking about actual astronomy now. It was really Sakamoto's thing, but Gintoki could appreciate a good sky. ]
"Moons" though.. I suppose I started appreciating those when I went through puberty.
[ ah.. he's an ass man. ]
no subject
as for her, anything she can hold onto is great, and it's size which provides purchase. ) Ah, a very ripe age for these kinds of interests to sprout and mature. I do like our two moons, but I also appreciate shapely hills when they're close at hand.
no subject
[ we're still using euphemisms, right? ]
I guess now it'll be better to take a look at these hills and things once this bastard gets the sun back up.. like he's planning on doing.
I could have thought of that. [ you know.. whatever Rick is doing. ]
no subject
I'm sure you could've. You obviously had the creativity to figure out other uses for that thing. ( the telescope or whatever ) Getting the sun back is very important. So we should really work at it. ( is she trying to persuade him to use the thing for what it's intended? yeah, but only because it hasn't occurred to her that by now Rick has probably shut his feed off. )
no subject
[ He does it, though, despite all of his procrastination and distraction.. you know. ]
Especially when you're hungry.
[ Anybody who knows Gintoki well enough is aware he takes plenty of breaks on their tasks they are sent to do. ]
Am I right?
no subject
no subject
[ Gin isn't rich. That's why he's a freelancer. He'll take any job to give him pay so he can get food to eat.
Or, unfortunately, use it to gamble with. Maybe this is also why he is always broke.
Ah well.
When Gintoki was younger, he had to be a scavenger and pick food off of dead soldiers to survive, so he gets it. ]
It works differently if you're buying. Somehow, you saying you'll pay for it just made me even hungrier.
[ so now he can freeload. ]
no subject
so she just kind of shrugs. ) And here I thought you were just excited to be having a meal and some drinks with a charming and dashing companion. ( then she laughs, stands up, and offers her hand. what's the point in pretending that they're actually going to work? there are only so many hours in a night, etc., and anyway it's not like she plans to be doing only this for the rest of the evening. ) But I see know where you interests lie. Don't worry, I won't take it personally. But you can still flatter my ego, if you'd like. Who knows, it might end up mutually beneficial. ( meaning she'll buy more. something like that. as loaded and generous as she is she can still be tight-fisted because some habits wrought by drudgery and poverty just never quite break. gambling being an exception, but she at least can afford to lose. )
no subject
She offers her hand and he actually takes it, pulling himself up and brushing himself off. Does he pack up all of his telescope belongings and go? Should he just leave it here?
... He'll just leave it here. He can't be assed. ]
How would somebody go about doing that?
no subject
she does give his equipment a passing glance and assumes that he means to return after he's been fed. it's made out of cobbled together crap, so why would anyone bother stealing it anyway? )
Do you really need to ask me that? There's only so many things you need to do to flatter someone's ego. ( she laughs and then turns to look at which might be the best way to get down. ) You strike me as a man of the world, so I think you already know what you want and how to get it.
