SUMMARY: Clean up efforts, as well as an attempt at a search and not-rescue for a certain elf
[ a. cleanup ]
[ Undyne isn't happy with the way things have gone down. Their mission was over, but it didn't really feel like it was over, or successful, or beneficial to the people they were supposed to be helping. Maybe she missed some important context, but now there are more dead humans than when she arrived, and that just doesn't seem right.
Once upon a time, she might have said good riddance. Humans were dangerous! Vicious even! If they died, it was bound to have taken a lot of effort, and was probably for a good reason! And then a human had shown her that they could be different, and she's met plenty of kind humans. Now she's questioning if the crime had justified the punishment.
She just doesn't know.
Instead of confronting it head on, she puts herself into the clean up effort. It has to be done anyway, and she's in a good position to help out. She can be found hefting boulders out of the way, gathering up armfuls of supplies, and trying to get any of her fellow recruits involved, if they look like they're not pitching in, or like they might need a little help them selves. ]
Hey! How about a hand?
[ b. searching the forest ]
[ Besides their perceived failure, there are other things on Undyne's mind, namely one particular recruit who's been missing since he roughed up one of her friends. Not only was she pissed about that, but Papyrus was still worrying for his "friend". She hasn't seen Koltira since, and she hasn't seen him around town, for as much as she's been making her way around it.
Maybe if he was lucky, he was already buried under some of the rubble.
But barring that, the forest seems like the next best hiding spot, so she searches, not aimlessly but without a particular sense of direction. Any noise in her vicinity catches her attention, and she turns on it, holding her spear in front of her both as a light source, and as a threat to anything that might be sneaking up on her. From her scowl and the furrow of her brow, to the way her shoulders are hunched and her stance is tense, she's on edge, but she shows enough restraint to not straight up skewer anyone who manages to get a jump on her... not immediately anyway. They might end up with the pointed end of a spear in their face, though. ]

b!
The sound up ahead nearly gets a full startle from her, which leaves her scowling and pissed (at herself, mostly) when she realizes it's not who she can't decide if she wants to run into or not. Scared of the spooky elf in the woods. How stupid.
She forces herself to relax again and snort at the sight of that spear, lifting a hand to bat it away as she steps more fully into sight. ]
I didn't know goblins came in blue.
no subject
[ Yes she did. She absolutely knew that.
The spear, as it goes, might feel a little wet, and cold; but she lowers it none the less, seeing that there's no real threat. She can't be too offended, either. Those goblins did seem to have their acts together. ]
Monster. Not goblin. What are you doing out here?
no subject
[ She looks amused to hear it, pretty rapidly forgetting all the wariness of a moment before. Having someone else around goes a long way toward distracting her. ]
No specific race name, just monster? I mean, if that's what you're into, I'm not judging. [ she'll just ignore the question; this seems like a better tangent. ]
no subject
[ Clearly this is a very important tangent for some humans, and she's yet to figure out why. What's so hard about monsters?! ]

So. What are you doing out here? You probably didn't come here just to meet girls.
[ Everyone knows the dump is way better for that. ]
no subject
[ She's right, though, and Ramir casts a quick glance around them. With some of the casual levity faded: ]
Actually I'm out here kinda half looking for a guy, half hoping I don't fucking run into him ever. You know, that kinda thing.
no subject
[ Of course, there's no way it could happen to be the same guy. ]
When I run into him, he'll be the one hoping I wouldn't!
b for best buddies
Or, at the very least, he'll mitigate whatever trouble she'd probably get herself into in the process.
So surprising as it probably was for her to hear Sans wanted to tag along, he is in fact walking alongside her, tagging along. He's used to Papyrus just striding along at his usual pace, so he doesn't have much of an issue keeping up with her.]
So what's the plan here?
F is for friends who do stuff together...
[ She pushes some shrubs aside with her spear like she's looking for something but, finding nothing, keeps pressing forward through the forest. It should be increasingly clear that she has no sense of where she's actually going, and is instead just strafing through the forest, going deeper with every pass. ]
And then we talk to that no-good coward. Just like I promised Papyrus.
U is for Undyne and Sans...
[Sans, meanwhile...isn't doing very much. About as helpful as usual, which is of course not at all. Things are looking a little more hopeful with how...unskilled she is at this tracking business.]
Talk with your mouth, or your fists? ...Or spears?
N is for no survivors-- no wait that's wrong
[ She heaves a sigh, and her shoulders drop, just for a moment. ]
What am I supposed to do? Papyrus isn't going to stop being friends with him.
*N is for No Mercy
And I think that means...he'd be pretty upset with you if you started a fight with his friend too.
[His tone is fairly casual though, so he doens't seem to be condoning nor condemning what she's saying.]
"bfunn" isn't a word oh god we're making it worse
Or, well. Now there's stars, since they managed to get the sun back as well, but proverbially speaking, she's lost in every respect. As they pass by a tree, it feels the brunt of her frustration as a few spears embed themselves into its trunk then dissipate. And she seethes, for a second, then composes herself. ]
...I started training him again. I don't know if he told you or not, but it's the real thing this time.
bfunn. to bfunn. the state of being bfunn.
[He still has that same airy, light tone of his...but a small part of it, easy enough to miss, is just that bit somber.]
Heh. Guy never changes.
no subject
[ She says it with a mix of affection and deadpan. Oh, Papyrus... ]
That's what I'm worried about. He never changes, and he's never going to. If we were back in the Underground, or even on the surface, I wouldn't want him to, but here... there's going to be things, people who want to hurt him, and they're not going to think twice about it. Maybe they don't even think at all.
no subject
So, uh, love, hope, compassion...they're more like an afterthought than all that integral.
[He's not really working towards any real point there, though, so cuts himself off.]
I appreciate you training him, though. Really; not like I could do it myself.
[His magic isn't suited towards it, anyhow, even if he were to tell them the truth.
Or, well, Undyne. He already told Papyrus....some of it.]
no subject
[ She mulls on it for a second, seemingly lost in thought. Mostly, she's trying to make sure that she doesn't get them all turned around. ]
Hey! Maybe that means I need to train you too!
[ That'll be a cold day in Hotland. ]
no subject
Hey, c'mon. With strong monsters like you around, there's no reason, right?
[He doesn't wanna hurt you undyne.
Especially since he doesn't know what would be damaged more: her or her ego.]
no subject
[ Thousands of laps is not just a "little exercise". ]
no subject
[He says with a shrug.
Even if her idea of training is truly something to fear.]
no subject
[ That's a rhetorical question. She knows the answer is that she doesn't know, and doesn't really care. ]
Come on. You know I'd go easy on you.
[ For as much as Undyne ever goes easy on... anyone. Mostly, she says it as a gesture of goodwill, and the closest she'll get to saying that she's looking out for him, too. ]
no subject
[""brisk"" as if this isn't leisurely even with her on the hunt for the undead.]
no subject
[ It is more walking than she's ever actually personally seen him do, but then again... how did he get from Snowdin to Waterfall to Hotland?! Perplexing. A mystery for the ages. ]
no subject
[He pauses, like he's considering it.]
Phew. You might have to go on without me, then...I should make it back in a few days time at that rate.
no subject
[ That's really the worst threat she can think of... ]
no subject
Y'know on second thought, maybe I'll be able to keep up after all. I shouldn't, uh, underestimate myself or something.
no subject
That's what I thought!
Between you and me, though, I don't really want to be out here that long. This would be way easier if the Snowdin unit were here... I'm pretty sure Dogamy or Dogaressa could smell him out in minutes.
[ Unless he rolled in some dirt first... ]
