CHARACTERS: Undyne & Mettaton
DATE: 03/31
WARNINGS: (see CHARACTERS) (no, none really)
SUMMARY: A little bonding over mutual disdain.
[ Undyne holds no realy pretense that they'll actually find Gilgamesh, much less make him apologize to Mettaton. Somehow, she just gets the feeling that the task they've set out to do is impossible. Somehow.
That was never the real point anyway. It was just a good opportunity to... do something. She doesn't know what. She just knows that she can either keep clashing with Mettaton endlessly, or at least try to extend the proverbial olive branch, the latter of which seems strangely appealing. If the way to do that is through their mutual dislike of someone who threatens their friend, then so be it. She'd made friends in much less glamorous ways before. And Papyrus is so fond of him, for reasons she can't fathom, and moreso than he's fond of most people. She's going to have to learn to put up with him, whether she likes it or not. She managed to do it with Sans, why not with Mettaton?
Pushing aside all rhetorical questions in her mind, she waits outside the inn, bright and early and ready to go... do something. She doesn't really know what. Sleep hasn't come easy since she arrived here, so she's looking a little more frazzled than usual. The beds were too short by a third, all the ceilings were too low by about a foot, and the only thing keeping here from going on a frustrated rampage was that the natives were kind to her, and the kids were pretty damn cute. She's even taught a few how to throw spears made of sticks. They weren't very effective at it, but damn if it wasn't adorable watching them try.
Her coat is conspicuously missing, her vest unbuttoned, and her uniform shirt sleeves rolled up to the elbows. It's a nice enough morning, at least, so she's got that going for her. She smooths back her hair, and rubs at the bags under her good eye, and checks the bracelet on her wrist impatiently, as if looking at it will actually tell her what time it is. ]

He's still in his original form when he finds her, jacket worn as perfectly as possible as a giant rectangle can manage.]
MORNING, DARLING. [Robotic yawn. It sounds staged.] TOO BAD THERE'S NO CAFES AROUND, HM? A NICE LITTLE DISCUSSION AROUND SOME DELICIOUS CAPPUCCINO SOUNDS WONDERFUL RIGHT NOW.
[Mettaton, you can't even taste anything.]

[ Nevermind that she's a fish and can just go wash off in the ocean. It's the principle of the matter, and the fact that she doesn't really want to go around all salty all day. (Not that a shower would necessarily help that.) ]
Where do you want to start? Even if we don't find him we can look around. We're here for a reason, right? Kinda weird that we don't even know why we're on this mission yet.
no subject
WHY DON'T WE CHAT FOR A MOMENT? [Not about the actual mission. That's on the back-burner.] YOU'VE OBVIOUSLY BEEN HERE LONGER THAN I HAVE, SO I CAN ONLY ASSUME YOU KNOW MORE ABOUT OUR LOVELY COWORKERS THAN I DO.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH OUR NEWEST FRIEND? PAPYRUS CERTAINLY SEEMS TO THINK HE'S WORTHY OF GETTING CLOSE TO. [Because he's Papyrus. MTT is slowly learning the skeleton thinks EVERYONE is worth getting close to and he's not sure whether that makes the idol-worship more or less valuable.]

[ She leans up against the wall of the building, crossing her arms over her chest. Worrying about Papyrus is something she does really well, but not something she talks about a lot. She's trying to have more faith in him, and she does have more faith in him than ever, but there are some things that just never change. ]
He's usually right, but I can't help thinking he might not be someday.
no subject
IF BY "SOMEDAY" YOU MEAN "HOWEVER LONG AGO HE MET GUYBRUSH?" BECAUSE YES. I AGREE.
[Mettaton folds his arms behind his back and languidly rolls back and forth, pacing on the dirt.]
DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM? WE'RE GOING TO NEED A SCREENPLAY BEFORE WE CAN HIT THE STAGE, DARLING.
no subject
I don't know anything and everyone else is probably still asleep or not here. [ She nods towards the inn. ] Do we just go around and ask whoever we can find?? That's just weird.
no subject
But...]
WE COULD JUST ASK PAPYRUS.
no subject
[ She shakes her head, but it's only natural. She's known Papyrus for so long that she's just come to always expect nothing less than his over-the-top brand of friendliness. ]
If we're really lucky, he'll guilt trip us over how much he believes in this guy.
no subject
THEN WE'RE BACK TO THE ROUGH DRAFT! WE NEED A PLAN OF ACTION! AN INCITING MOMENT! SOMETHING TO ROLL THE PLOT ALONG.
HM... DO YOU THINK SANS WOULD BE OF ANY HELP? [For as lazy as he is, MTT can't imagine he'd just sit around while someone threatened his own no-flesh and bones.]
no subject
[ Sans did help her look for Koltira that one time, after all. And she likes to think they have an understanding now. ]
Come on. Let's go see if we can find him.
no subject
[Mettaton starts to wheel off in a random direction, slow enough for Undyne to saunter next to him if she so chooses. He hums a few bars, clearly enjoying...
Well. Not the CIRCUMSTANCES. But this. A nice dirt path. The sun overhead. A nice, chilly breeze...]
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN HERE, DARLING?
no subject
[ Undyne keeps up easily, walking in step... or, well. Just keeping up, really. ]
Since I guess part way through the last mission. I thought this mission would be easier, but it's not. Do you just get this weird feeling we're missing something?
[ Undyne was an act first, think later type, and that usually meant the thinking part got overlooked. Being analytical isn't one of her strong suits, but something just feels amiss and she can't really place a finger on it. ]
