THE CASTLE ( NOV 7 )
Our resident warrior princess, Kidagakash Nedakh, has formulated a plan to investigate the castle and speak with the royals. (The OOC plotting post can be found here.) Now, it's time to put it into action.
The castle itself is huge. From the outside, you can see a beautiful garden, a pond, and a statue commemorating Odette. You can also see several guards, some more invested in their job than others. A few are stony-faced, menacing men with looks that could kill. A couple just look like they'd appreciate a pretty girl or interesting guy to liven up their boring day.
On the inside, all the halls look different, yet the same — different pieces of art, different wall fixtures, but everything else is identical. There's many portraits of the king and his late wife on the walls, sparkling chandeliers, and servants scurrying around. Odette's pale, smiling face and cascading blonde locks look somewhat familiar, but that might just be because of all the statues of her likeness around the city.
The castle has pretty much every room you'd expect a castle to have. A library, a wine cellar, a dining hall, etc. Within them, characters can expect to find various things of interest — there are many books, fancy stationery, even some valuable coins if you look hard enough. There's also many letters to be found detailing the situation in Chantes; of course, there's also plenty of letters on far less official business. Some of them have quite steamy imagery.
There are plenty of servants milling about inside the castle and out in the gardens. In the dining hall and their chambers are several of Chantes' most important nobles. And then, of course, there's you. |

[Levi's presence hadn't gone unnoticed, but Ban wasn't interested in being dressed down. The other man's voice was deep enough to call him a brat, but being two heads taller made him less keen on being respectful to him so easily.
Ban thought the curious thing he used to reach the window was interesting, though. So, he paused to look it over. Ban closed the sack he had been carrying, standing up straight to look Levi over with a haughty expression.]
Course it ain't part of the objective. Those goody-two-shoes up there wanna have an audience, like the guy knows anythin' useful.

Levi stays put. once the blades are free from the scabbards he holds them pointing downwards, out of any looming threat's reach. ]
What, so we loot his palace and that'll give us something better? That's a laugh.
[ the king might not know anything useful... but he has to imagine he's at least good for getting the rest of the humans in the city to listen. ]

[Ban finished stuffing a number of things he liked into his sack, turning it over on his shoulder. Most people, when confronted with exceptionally sharp blades, held a measure of caution in them. When confronted with the possibility that the person in front of him was on edge and exerting a dangerous presence, Ban felt absolutely nothing.
It was a welcome feeling, as if he was speaking to an old, familiar friend. It wasn't that Ban didn't think Levi was incapable of hurting him--it was the opposite. Ban had his guard down for a few choice reasons.]
This is all for me. You gonna reprimand me or do somethin' about it, midget?
crap i'm so sorry this is so late
after all, Ban doesn't even begin to balk at his presence, if only for the sheer fact that he's been caught in the act by a teammate. there are no efforts to include them, or to defend himself. in short, it's completely shameless. so he may as well go so far as to actually wield his blades like he plans to use them, a task he accomplishes as he approaches in hastened steps, the right trigger flipped backhanded. ]
You, that bastard killing goblins left and right. You're really having our work cut out for us.
[ and for all his lack of tone, he does manage to seem distinctly unhappy with this. chalk it up to the sword at Ban's back as he reaches for the bag. ]
Isn't being a bunch of castle-raiding terrorists enough for you?
it's ok i still wuv roo
To boot, he didn't much care for peoples' racist beliefs. If the locals would just toss the goblins under the cart every time something went wrong, he knew it would explode in their faces eventually. Though--he still had considered the obvious. Maybe there was some guy who looked just like him, murdering goblins.]
Dunno what you're talking about--killin' goblins.
[Ban's cheerful grin vanished as he returned a fairly solemn look towards Levi.]
You accusin' me of it?
<3!
though despite the misunderstanding, he doesn't exactly mind the adjustment. both are serious. seriously making their attempts at reaching out to the people here look worse and worse.
in this case, making assumptions and tending to his concern for keeping this clean don't go hand in hand. though that line of thinking does rather make sense. at least, it does for someone who actually knows Ban's habits. Levi doesn't. he doesn't like to pry with assumptions.
but he'll keep his blades at the ready anyway, because all he cares about is a smooth operation. ]
That's not it. I'm saying you and that guy are the same. Stirring up trouble for the rest of us. Am I wrong?
[ he did hear somebody saying something about white-haired guys though, now that you mention it. ]

[Ban wasn't serious for long. What Levi suggested was a moral objection to a crime. 'Snowballing' crimes could lead from one disaster to another. It was a human being's justification for not doing something wrong. If one started committing crimes, then the cost would reach someone innocent in time.
To a poor, starving child with no alternative but to attack, steal and kill to survive, who could say that thinking would reach Ban? His smile returned--as he face Levi properly.
Ban began walking towards Levi, as if to force him to back up. It was a little game of chicken that one would assume Ban thought he would win. An outsider would think that Levi wouldn't hold his ground and back off--not knowing what sort of person Levi was. That same rational person would expect Ban to falter at the tip of Levi's weapon. Instead, Ban pressed on as if the sharpness of the blade and the soft nature of his skin were a non-issue. He didn't mind bleeding or stabbing or cutting. As he stepped forward, he made that abundantly clear.]
Don't be naive~♪. Is it the goblins you give a shit about or your reputation?
[Between the two of them, there was a massive gap in their carelessness.]
If you gave a shit about the goblins, you'd be down there protectin' em right now~♪.

thus when he moves, it's only for the subtle adjustment of planning in advance, being defensive with the stance of the blades caging him. if not to ambush him, would he really go that far?
...assuming he does, Levi won't step back until skin meets steel. he holds his tone. ]
It's not my reputation. It's ALASTAIR's.
[ but that's right, it is about reputation. for one specific reason. ]
They've left making the case up to us, and we've been fighting these people every step of the way to let us help. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not make this uglier than it has to be.

[Ban's advance carried intimidation, yet no overt hostility. It was only because Levi was someone he didn't want to attack, but to make a point to.
Levi made an excellent point, at least, but Ban knew there was little else one could do to convince someone of futility rather than showing it up for what it was. With one sharp step, Ban caught Levi just as he was about to take a step back, seeing that Levi had no inclination to let himself walk the sword through himself.
He was eager to see what reaction he'd earn for pushing himself a few inches through the unnervingly sharp sword without so much as a flinch on his own part.]
Far as I know, there haven't been any orders from ALASTAIR to do somethin' like this, yeeet.
[Yet, even after the first push and show of blood, Ban was eager to take further steps.]
We just gotta raise the sun. If the King could do it--or, knew how--don't ya' think he'd have done it yet?

there's no way.
but it's that possibility that keeps him on his toes through his surprise. the whites of his eyes have grown vast as he steps back, raises his hackles and his other blade. when his first move isn't enough, Ban's insistence brings him to at last rip his sword free, none too kindly. ]
Oi... do you have some kind of death wish? Just what is this about?
[ he doesn't believe that, is watching closely. ]
We've got to decide what they want on our own. They're not going to speak up.

Immortality didn't give him that pain tolerance. It was something that came from something much crueler.]
Some soldiers wait weeks, months--even years for orders, while they're out on missions.
[Ban pressed his hand against the wall beside Levi, still not hesitating--even with the threat of another weapon.]
You tellin' me you haven't got the patience to wait for your commanders to give you the right direction?
