CHARACTERS: Archer (
anti_altruisms) & Rin (
defenceless)
DATE: Before the battle with the goddesses....sometime.
WARNINGS: Nothing really.
SUMMARY: Archer is spending more time sleeping on the job than usual... They have a chat about that and other things.
[ He's slept more in the past few weeks than he has in hundreds of years.
Of course, it's the logical decision. Aside from remaining in spirit form at all times, it's the most efficient way to conserve his strength, and that's needful, considering they may very well be attempting to slay goddesses at less than 100%.
The other part of it is, though, he really is that drained. Continuing his arrangement with Gilgamesh has helped, there is no doubt about that, but sleeping still helps keep the sense of encroaching exhaustion at bay.
He actually cuts a rather sloppy figure, stretched out on a cot on the floor with a pillow over his face. He's sleeping soundly, and significantly, perhaps, an odd-looking egg is nestled in the crook of his arm. Maybe he really does take this parenting thing seriously, after all... ]

the punishment might not exactly feel like a punishment, though, especially to some of the more... excitable men in alastair. one hand touches fingers lightly to his stomach before her weight settles just around his waist, if not lower; she's straddling him, a thigh to either side of his torso.]
Archer...
[she coos his name gently, as if to rouse him.
and then she drops pfeil on his face.
the poor lion cub mews when he plunks on the pillow, mashing it around with his chubby little paws for want of some balance, but he doesn't want to wake up his favorite friend archer, either! mom, why did you do this?!]
no subject
And she ruins it.
The light touch on his stomach doesn't do it, and while he does stir a little when she straddles him, it isn't until a fuzzball is dropped on his head that he grumbles -- a sign of wakefulness.
Groping for the lion cub, Archer picks him up by the scruff with his free hand and blinks blearily when the pillow is plucked up as well by tiny claws. He looks disgruntled and disheveled (a rare look for him), and his hair is an unruly mess.
He does not appear at all pleased to be awakened thus. ]
no subject
[yeah, he doesn't look pleased. not that rin cares.
the baby lion chuffs and mumbles, bowing his head in something like shame (that perhaps rin should be suffering, instead). hopefully, archer will set him down, because the poor thing is really taking this hard. pfeil freezes perfectly still, prepared for whatever archer would do with him next.
rin, for her part, smirks boldly and proceeds to not only straddle her servant, but crawl on top of him to bend over him, holding herself aloft upon her hands pressed into the floor. this is undeniably a risque position. and yet there's a tendency to tease archer, if only because that rumpled hair and his grumpy face call back memories of shirou. she winks at him, rocking.]
Ooh, don't get excited, okay?
[she's not honestly sure what she would do if he did.
another reason has prompted all this "good-natured" prodding, however. with her long hair hanging down, shading her face and his from above,]
You've been having fun, lately. Who is it, Archer?

Archer sets the white fluffball on the ground, and for a moment, he just...stares as Rin leans over him. Yes, this is a pretty damn compromising position, and if he were more awake, or maybe less blasé about this kind of behavior where Rin is concerned, he would react a bit more than he is. In truth, he expected this line of questioning, eventually. She can barely give him anything mana-wise right now, so of course, he's...gone elsewhere to help supplement what he does have. It's practically, and he tells himself that's all it is.
Grumpily, he pulls the pillow back over his head. Apparently, he isn't in the mood to discuss it. ]
no subject
did you just willfully disobey a command from your master?
the pillow blocks how rin's teeth grit together in a tense smile as he completely ignores her. pfeil, who has the right idea, plops to the ground to cuddle up beside archer's head and covers his eyes with his paws, burying his little snout like he's awaiting a bomb exploding.
she defiantly pulls the pillow away, and once she does—she looks as peaceful as can be. don't worry, archer.
don't test her.]
Who, Archer?
[her blue eyes narrow. he has a few more chances. she's generous.]
Really, if it's... Saber, you don't have to be ashamed. [she slept with saber, not that she's going to mention it to him. everyone has probably slept with saber by now—rin, archer, maybe even lancer(? hmm), who knows, the point is saber is available and she suspects archer's hot for her anyway.] I'd be happy to know my two prized Servants are getting along so well. Tell me.
[not a question.]
no subject
Archer can tell she's displeased when she drags the pillow away from his face, but he isn't cowed or moved by it. He can be stubborn too, and even though he would never try to hurt or deliberately undermine her ever again, some things he simply will not budge on. ]
If I wished to speak of it, I already would have.
[ Another defiant 'no'. ]
no subject
well, that lasted long. in seconds, the displeasure is plain on her face, her cheeky false smile falling into a severe frown with such whiplash he could imagine the switch of her mood to screech like car wheels. he won't obey her? come again?]
I don't care if you wish to speak of it or not, I'm your Master. Everything you do and all the bad decisions you make will impact both of us.
[is she implying he can choose terrible partners for sex? yes, in fact. she is.]
no subject
It's why, in some respects, the very real anger she displays now (which he did underestimate) hits him like a slap in the face. When she wanted her cake for Saber and asked him to leave, he obliged and never asked what happened while he was gone. He simply trusted her, and even if he doesn't deserve the same trust in return (he is capable of some very bad choices, and he knows it), hasn't he proven yet that he warrants a little privacy and respect?
His feelings aren't "hurt", per se, but it's obvious from the look on his face that he wasn't expecting such an explosive reaction, or those comments in particular. His own irritation deflates, and without moving an inch, he curls in on himself.
He isn't sure how he's supposed to react to this, and when he finally responds, his voice is quiet. ]
Are you that angry with me? Rin.
no subject
D-Don't look at me like that, like you don't even know what you're doing...
[some things never change. just like that, that easy, her voice loses its barbs and she's almost guilty, on the verge of expressing more emotion. rin wouldn't apologize, but it's clear he's making her feel as though she's the one in the wrong.]
I have a right to want you to talk to me. If you don't... care for me enough to give me any names, so be it, but you can at least let me know if you're seeing someone. If you're close to them...
[is that what this is about?]
no subject
At this point, he can't tell, and perhaps that is very much due to another failing of his. While he is remarkably perceptive about certain things, when it gets more personal, he falters.
Gray eyes slide down to the egg nestled in the crook of his arm (he's going to fail at that too, somehow), and for a long moment, he says nothing. He didn't hide what he was doing to hurt her; he did it so he wouldn't have to explain how a deal he made behind her back to protect her became a means of survival and then...something else.
He tries to pick his words with care, but...well. This isn't his strong suit. ]
There is no secret romance happening, Rin.
[ What he does with Gilgamesh isn't completely devoid of all feeling, but it's nothing he couldn't shake off if circumstances dictated that they be foes as they were always meant to be. Mutual understanding and some measure of respect has developed, but that's all it is. ]
The lack of magic has made it more difficult for me so I have...attempted to make up the difference.
[ A beat, then- ]
There is nothing more important than my bond with you.
[ And that is the truth. ]
no subject
[her response comes too swift, too snappy, cutting off the edge of his reply. (excuse? what does it matter.) her posture and her tone are nothing surprising. their bond had better be important to him, her body language says, or else she'd definitely kill him.
it's not so much substitute masters she's worried about, as it is simply him acting behind her back. so—yes, this is an example of rin being upset he just didn't tell her, and he still doesn't really tell her everything now, when a literal storm isn't separating them any longer.
naturally, he has to know she'd be enraged to discover he crafted "plans" and "deals" without her agreement, whether they were designed to keep her safe or not. she'd never allow him to enjoy his little meetings with gilgamesh. ironically, she's in the right, too, for obvious reason (gilgamesh approached her directly to win her favor, even with their truce). archer continues to rack up the mistakes.
she senses this is another one, and he doesn't want to fess up, so she nails him on it.]
It's only logical that you would seek to sustain yourself. I wouldn't chastise you for that. How have you been "making up the difference", as you put it?
no subject
There is no longer any such bargain between them. He ended it definitively weeks ago, and even if it was a mistake to start with, he has rectified it since. Now, they only meet for his stated reasoning -- because survival is particularly difficult for them right now, even though they are both of the Archer class. If he's come to actually like it somewhat, well, perhaps that's an inevitable result of what they've done. It doesn't mean he wouldn't or couldn't strike Gilgamesh down if he had to. He just doesn't want to talk about it or share anything about it, not only because it's Gilgamesh, but because he still feels shame over the act of sex, in general. He would still be reticent, regardless of who his partner was, and his poor self-image plays into that. It's an issue of privacy in his mind right now, and to him, it feels like he is being told he can't have any.
He still doesn't look at her, and it would be a shocking image to most, really -- that this slender girl could cow this ages-old spirit who could snap her neck like a twig if he wanted to. This is the power she holds over him, and it has nothing to do with the Command Seals.
When he finally finds his voice again, it's soft. ]
The same way you helped Saber in Chantes...Rin.
[ He didn't ask then because it was obvious. Because Saber lacked a Master, because Saber needed mana. He never asked either of them about it because it was their business, not his.
And he wonders now, if he's going to be scrutinized every time this happens, if she's going to be angry every time...does he ever want to again? ]
no subject
No offense, Archer, but you've been doing a lot more than kissing.
[she shifts over his body again, the movement of her hips possibly pleasant as she settles upon him sitting upright, her arms folded across her chest. hmph. it adds an extra bite of attitude.
rin isn't thinking about burning down his privacy. to her, it's not a matter of crushing his self-image or forcing him to feel shame. surely, they can both be adults about this. they can talk in terms essential to a master and servant bond.]
Explain, briefly, a summary of your encounters up to my return. I will not tolerate this secret-keeping... If you describe every detail, I'll get mad, so don't be talking about sexy things. Just brief your Master, all right?!
[she's only requesting the basic details. he could lie. he could be as vague as he wants.]
no subject
He doesn't wince, necessarily, when she moves, but he...does not appear happy. Not even a little. ]
...I made an arrangement with someone shortly after the ordeal with the volcano.
[ A true statement, even though he leaves out the handful of times he did it before then. ]
We met a few times, and I went without when all of you were separated from the mainland.
[ He managed, but it became more difficult towards the end. ]
We met again, after all of you returned.
[ He keeps it vague and doesn't get into any of the graphic details. In fact, he would have avoided it even if she hadn't said not to mention "sexy things". He has difficulty talking about personal stuff anyway, but it would be even more awkward when she's sitting on him like this. ]
