EVENT ★ ZETA-12 FINAL WEEK
ZETA-12: FINAL WEEK After team Audentes makes it out of the desert in more or less one piece, they'll begin to notice the environment changing once again. After the sparseness of the sands and canyons, vegetation and water once again become more common; eventually, they've found a lush jungle with plants and rivers both plentiful. And like the changing environment, the squidges once again begin to transform. For those who encountered the cave: If they went into the cave, their squidge has taken on one of the following features: a fox-like tail, an armadillo snout (with tongue!), or enhanced sense of smell. However, if they stayed above, their squidge has one of these: a beak, a prehensile tail, or enhanced sense of hearing. THE JUNGLE (WEEK 6) ![]() The jungle air is thick with humidity, light barely filtering down past the dense canopy of leaves overhead. Unlike the forest back at the beginning of the journey here, the climate in the jungle is almost stifling, so recruits may want to look for refreshing Rainbow Berries to snack on and keep their energy up -- but keep an eye out for the Lucifer's Poppy, as its effects can cause the journey to reach an abrupt end. ![]() Unlike the previous biomes, there is no major choice for recruits to make here. Instead, they must bathe their squidge in the Wellspring, a bubbling, faintly glowing pool of water in the depths of the jungle. The Wellspring is responsible for triggering the squidges' final transformation and allowing them to grow into adulthood. In order for squidges to evolve into an adult, squidge parents must have completed a certain amount of tasks during the Zeta-12 mission. If these tasks were not completed, the squidge will not evolve and will remain in its larval stage. The evolution form can be found on this post. Squidges who successfully evolve into adults will grow in size, anywhere between 122-183cm (4-6'). They will loosely retain their rounded shapes, their limbs and torsos elongating, and any physical transformations will also grow with their size. In adulthood, squidges are less needy and frightened than in their larval stage, and generally have a calm demeanor (with exceptions made if they happened to pick up an aggressive trait along the journey, of course). Their language remains a wordless burbling, but they can communicate with their caregivers through gestures. After bathing their squidges in the Wellspring, regardless of the success of evolutions, recruits should prepare to depart Zeta-12 with the knowledge that their alien children are better, stronger, and smarter for the time they spent together. ![]() OOC NOTES This log lasts ICly for one week, and OOCly for 1.5 weeks. Once the mission is completed and the squidges are bathed in the Wellspring, recruits will have until August 20th to say goodbye and let their alien wards leave the metaphorical nest. Direct questions about the Zeta-12 mission here. And don't forget about the bounty board! After August 20th, Zeta-12 bounties will no longer be completable. Please remember to fill out your squidge success form! Participation is required to pass AC this month. If you have any questions about the form, please direct them here. Forms must be completed by August 31th, 23:59 UTC. |

cat overlordslloyd at hr"employers", and while she had always been very grateful for them... this time around she has to admit she is a little stumped.sitting atop one of the cleaner (that is, less moss-covered) rocks within the shadier parts of the jungle, olivia has paused in her journey to finally take some time and look her new gift over. she holds it up in front of her, squinting at it, tilting her head at it, turning it over this way and that.
sitting beside her, sapphire has his hands on the other part of the gift, mimicking his adoptive mother's movements in his own confusion.
...
after a moment, olivia seems to give up, shrug, and holds the contraption high up over her head as if to whack it down against the rockohmygod someone stop her—!? ]
2. SPLISH-SPLASH I WAS TAKING A BATH
needless to say, olivia has taken full advantage of this opportunity to relax.
by one of the waterfalls leading into the rivers, olivia has taken root with her two charges. saffron lounges lazily by the river bank, quietly dozing off in a sliver of sunlight between the canopies to dry his fur. he had depleted much of his youthful energy splashing around in the river not too long ago, but still keeps one paw in the water, as if to remind himself it is still there. (suffice to say, the desert had been saffron's least favorite.)
olivia herself is still in the water, hip-deep, with her long hair twisted up into a messy bun, clad in a set of bright purple alastair-issued underwear (what else would she have used as a swim suit??). in front of her, she holds her hands out, carefully holding onto sapphire's small and stubby arms. the little squidge is on his stomach in the water, held afloat by a small strip of bark. his stubby little legs kick against the water frantically, and though he is not doing too shabbily for a first-time swimmer, he's still making various squeaky noises of distress. ]
There, there, Sapphire — it's okay... You're doing great, see...?
3. EMPTY NEST SYNDROME
he can only hold her for so long, after all. 8(;;; ]

3, feat: a very sparkly squidge
Ulale knows that feeling. Up until today, this glorious day, she has found life to be one big sob fest in one way or another. Everything had been terrifying, from the frosty biome of the north that she can barely remember, to the very real dangers of swamp monsters and meteors, down to the alarming height that Laedo had always seemed to be when he carried her upon his back. And now she's seeing a human crying for the first time, and her big old jelly heart goes out to Olivia.
In a moment, she swoops in and adds her long arms to the mix, wrapping them around Sapphire so that his human is hugged from all sides. Crooning soothingly, she warbles a lullaby she'd heard more than once when she was at the apex of her worst panics.]
that is the most adorable tag on this site

Re: own it ulale uwu werk it gurl
i do what i want
When Olivia draws up beside him, he lifts his gaze from his charge to offer her a wan smile.]
It seems it shall not be long before we reach the end of this our present mission. According to our maps we draw ever closer to our destination - we may even arrive by tomorrow evening if no trouble should impede our course.
[Yet it is not this matter but another pressing behind it that is most salient in his heart. For when the light lies supine and diminishes at the end of each day he cannot help but let his thoughts sink: he has by now lost count of the days that have passed since he slew Hector of the glinting helmet there upon the Dardanian plain and thus sounded his own death knell. The passage of time stirs in his breast a feeling which he cannot name but for calling it dread. It is a feeling that increases his weight and makes him too heavy to remain inside this gauzy reverie he has shared with Olivia all these weeks that they imitate the sort of life he was not meant to keep. With the end of their days here louring upon him, he can no longer turn his eyes away.]

Hey, Olivia.
(before too long, when standing there watching her struggle isn't really enough, olivia will find a comforting hand on her shoulder.) You know, I didn't think about it until I had to say goodbye to my own, but... Since they imprinted, we'll always be family to them. No matter how far apart we are.

Lily is, after all, the only creature in existence who's ever needed him.
Giovanni's standing off to one side too, and whilst he doesn't cling or show his emotions in so obvious a way as Olivia, there's something unusual in his expression, something subtle yet more real and immediate than the cold crooked smile he usually wears. Lily had been wandering about a little way off, Giovanni observing from a distance, but then his charge is heading back towards him when she stops, seeing something he's failed to notice, gestures at him with a level of inexplicable urgency. His face tightens, and he steps towards her with movements that seem somehow pained until he sees just what she's gesturing at. Olivia and Sapphire.
With Giovanni as back-up, Lily scampers over to her fellow squidge and reaches out for him with her elongated arms, chitters in a high-pitched tone.]
I think what she's trying to say is that you ought to let him go, now.

Meallan | ota
[After the heat of the desert and enclosed spaces they'd been trapped in, Meallan is actually grateful for the open if still stiflingly warm jungle, the air feeling at least a little nicer against his skin.
Better still is the river he's managed to find for himself and Tarasylin. The cooler water is a very welcome relief against his skin, still a vivid, angry red from the desert sun underneath the layer of grime from the caves, though he washes the dirt from his skin with as much care as he can to avoid making the sunburn hurt worse.]
Creators, I hope I can spend a good week out of the sun recovering. I think I'm going to need it.
goodbyes.
[And just like that, Tarasylin has grown up - 'up' being the operative word as Meallan finds himself needing to tilt his head to look up at his previously small charge now - and while Meallan couldn't be prouder, it's also tinged with sadness as well. They'll be parted soon now, Tarasylin to continue its life here and Meallan to return to Oska, and while he knows that's best for both of them it's still hard to say goodbye.]
You've grown well. [He says with a faint smile, recalling the day he'd been accepted as an adult by his clan as well.] And I'd say you've proven yourself in getting here too.
Normally there's be a ritual if you were elvhen but... [A thought occurs to Meallan and he motions for Tarasylin to wait a moment, disappearing to find a small piece of wood and a flat enough stone. A fire spell helps turn the wood to charcoal and once it's cooled a bit he grinds it against the stone, creating enough black powdery marks to possibly do what he has in mind.
Returning to the waiting squidge, he motions for Tarasylin to sit and shows him the stone.] Vallaslin are tattooed usually but it wouldn't be right to do that now. But this might be enough to say goodbye?
[To make it clearer, Meallan curves a black, smudged line against his cheek, an echo of the thin lines of his tattoos. Tarasylin catches on immediately and burbles, reaching out to touch the mark and then its own face in turn.]
Aneth ara, lethallen. [As he speaks, Meallan collects more of the charcoal powder and carefully traces lines against Tarasylin's blue fur. The marks aren't as fine or intricate as his own but the meaning is clear.] Know that you'll always walk with me, even when we're apart.

For the part of the squidge, it seems oblivious to what's on the way, enjoying being carried as it always does. Evan is picking his way around trees, looking down at his charge -- not for much longer, he thinks -- when he rounds a gnarled boll and comes across the tableau of Meallan and a huge, hulking thing that can only be his squidge.
Evan stops in his tracks, hearing those last few words, and gets the dreadful feeling he's walked in on some ritual that might have been intended to be private.]
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt.

Serene Charlord | OTA
Rinsing herself had turned into a full-out bath for everything she owns, for she's been fantasising about clean underwear for days. By the time someone else comes by she's got her laundry draped over rocks on the shore and is sitting herself in a shallow part of the water, her long hair plastered wet over her muscular torso, covering her nudity as she soaps her last sock. Lilac is burbling in the water beside her and squeals when she sees someone approach, smacking her little hands to show off just how fun splashing everything is. Serene glances up sharply and then grins
"Do you need to wash too?" She calls. She's not worried about being caught like this, for she's got her sword on the rock beside her and her new fire magic only a thought away.
Most importantly, she's got a very respectable chunk of soap left which she waves in the air in greeting.
no subject
However, all of his thoughts are somewhere else when she greets him, asking if he needs a bath. His expression nearly immediately goes somewhat flat, a look at the water like it's something offensive instead of being just that--water.
"Eeeh..."
His tone is just about as flat as his expression is, his shoulders hunching up more than a little at the mere thought of taking a dip to clean off. It may have been a while since he'd washed, sure--but...
"I don't like getting wet."
What a baby.

Evan Friave-Goodlace | OTA
Imber is shivering and miserable in Evan's arms, the young man having stopped in the boll of a big jungle tree to cradle the distressed youngster. If he had been puked on by his squidge in the first week or two of caring for it, Evan knows he would have made a fuss of it, freaked out or prioritized washing himself once the puking was over.
"Shh, come on, get it all out." Evan, terribly scared for his charge, has nonetheless learned how easily Imber picks up on his moods. He's keeping a lid on it, barely. "You'll feel better once you're done." Of course the squidge can't understand, and Evan, dismally, has no idea if he's right. Isn't diarrhea one of the leading causes of infant mortality in humans?
It's quite a sight to see a squidge vomit. When the next spasm wracks Imber he whines and his whole little furry body distorts for a moment, bulging towards his head before a torrent of yellow vomit with greenish flecks issues forth. Evan does his best to aim the squidge away from himself, this time, and mostly succeeds.
2. bye bye baby
"I don't especially want to let you," he confides in his squidge, private and mostly a joke. "What if you turn into something that wants to eat me?"
They're sitting by the spring, the aim of this whole mission. Imber is a little wan, but the squidge has regained its implacable good cheer since its brush with food poisoning. Evan has chosen a time that no one else seems to be around, struck by the urge for a private moment with his charge before he lets the little blue creature go. He's procrastinating and he knows it, feeding Imber little bits of foraged food, picking the squidge up and hugging it when Imber seems to be interested. But more and more, the squidge's attention is turning towards the glowing spring, a magnetic attraction that makes something in Evan very sad.
"You're going to go whether I want you to or not, aren't you," he murmurs to the little creature, the jokiness dropping away from his tone. Imber, ever sensitive to its caretaker's moods, reaches up and pats Evan's face. The redhead grins wanly.
2
Keith is about to push the squidge in to get this over with when he hears Evan talking to his squidge. He glances over to the pair, eyes taking note of any changes the squidge has had since it last ... stepped on Keith's face. He maintains his distance, but he's close enough to be heard. "I thought you didn't want to get stuck with a child," he says, not bothering to be subtle about how weird he thinks it is that Evan seems hesitant to let go.

Hanzo Shimada | OTA
[This is by far more acceptable than a desert or swamp.
Hanzo has stopped momentarily to refill his dreadfully empty gourd. Once filled to the brim with sake, it has long since been depleted over the course of the trip -- and much more fitting to be filled back up with water after the treacherous trip through the desert.
He pauses momentarily to watch Suzume, who is jumping into the stream, forming harmless splashes. The squidge lets out a melodic noise, entertained by the splashes before jumping again.
Despite himself, Hanzo can't help but smile. At least a little bit.]
ii. farewell and thanks for all the squidge
[Suzume is much taller now, to the point that it towers over Hanzo. Not terribly difficult, as the archer is all of 5'8" despite carrying himself like he's twice that height, somehow. Still, the squidge gazes down at its caretaker, making a curious noise.
Weeks ago, Hanzo had been focused on his mission: ensure that the squidge make it to their destination safely, and train his own to survive in the world. Somehow, he never expected to grow this attached. He wonders if he did right by Suzume.
But it's time to say good-bye.
Hanzo clears his throat and faces his charge.]
Suzume.
Try to stay with Yumi and Eastwood.
[He hesitates a moment, then lets out an uneasy breath.] I spent the last several years traveling on my own. I did not want to be part of the world. But that is not how you should live. You should live with those who care about you. Take care of each other.
[Suzume tilts its head. Hanzo stands rigidly before giving a little bow.]
It was an honor to leave what little wisdom I possess with you.
[Suzume bows in return before hesitantly touching Hanzo's shoulder. The archer touches the squidge's arm, gently squeezing before pulling away from Suzume.
More than he expresses, Hanzo feels sorrowful. But he will not display that. Not here.]
iii. wildcard, baby
[choose your own adventure!]
i
It bubbles like a brook as it splashes in near Hanzo's charge, gleefully flailing its furry way out to join its clutch-sibling and splash with him in the water.
Moments later a harried-looking redhead shoves his way through the huge-leafed greenery, casting about for a moment and then making a noise of relief when he spots his squidge. A moment later he spots the other squidge, and then his eyes skip to Hanzo on the bank.]
Ugh, sorry, sorry, he does that. He isn't bothering yours, is he?

Laedo's nearly exhausted himself on magic in his attempts to shelter others from the desert heat and the grassland winds, not to mention provide rations for the bondless squidges, alongside his recovering from the toxic spores that he'd inhaled from the swamp monster... and so for this last leg of the journey, he is no longer playing team-sweeper. He's meandered to the front of the pack for a while to give Ulale a chance to ride on his snout and pick rainbow-coloured berries from the foliage looming up and over their heads.
Now, sitting on the edge of the river and gorging on sweet fruits, he's been letting his squidge sort colours and feed him her favourites. Sticking his long dragony tongue out, he lets her place a purple berry upon it before he chews it, makes a fuss about how delicious it tastes, and then sticks his tongue out for more. This seems to be causing Ulale to burble and gush far more than he'd have expected... but eventually, licking his nose to clean it, he realizes why: his tongue is a perfect shade of black.
Ulale has been keeping all of the warm-coloured berries to herself, and is feeding him all of the cool-coloured ones. "Oh, you little trickster," he complains, but she's already chirping to place a sour green berry in his face again.
Wildcard
At the pools, Laedo allows Ulale to slip into her final form without the formal speech he'd been preparing for the last week. She seems happy to go, and in the end, that's for the best, isn't it?
Yet now it means that after confronting her in her adult form, he'll have to make goodbyes. He doesn't want to yet, so when Ulale seems intent to do some wandering around the spring by herself, he takes it as an excuse to linger and watch the others doing their thing. Feel free to chat him up (or confront Ulale in her final stage!) as you wish!
wildcard
The reality is somewhat different.
The realisation that the mission has reached its end and that they'll soon be leaving their charges behind opens something up in him, a raw unpleasant feeling that he doesn't quite know how (or perhaps chooses not) to name. It's difficult to admit even to himself that he loathes the thought of moving on without her. His expression is solemn, closed off, and he takes another step away as though trying to convince himself that he really does want to turn his back on all this and get on with something new.
Not looking where he's going, eyes still on his cavorting charge, he gently collides with a familiar recruit, catches himself before he stumbles. On finally registering Laedo's presence he wipes away the pensive expression as though it had never existed at all, replaces it with a more customary cutting smile.
"Oh. It's you."
Look at that sad sack~
He's not sad, he's tired!! That's right, just tired! haha..ha..ha ;;

Loki | Open
[ walking through the heavy heat of the jungle was the worst part—at least the desert had been dry, at least the tundra had been cold and the forest shady, this was just unbearable, even for someone like him. Bacon, taken with their new surroundings, finds easy comfort settling on Loki's shoulder and wrapping its now long tail around the back of Loki's neck to hold on. as different shadows fall, Bacon changes colors to match, as mercurial as Loki has a tendency to be.
An end to all journeystoward the last leg of the journey, Loki slows down the pace. Bacon finds a rainbow berry bush, and tries to camouflage itself in with the berries, turning several shades of rainbow before mouthing whatever bunch is closest. crouching down by it, Loki leans his chin on his palm. ]
My, my, you're getting reckless.
...
Ah, I'm so proud!
[ there it is. ]
Without squidgeYou could just be small forever.
[ Bacon's reaching toward the pool, balancing on Loki's arm just above the surface. it almost tumbles before being caught in the palm of his hand. there's a sigh of internal debate. this was it, the end of the journey, the mark of a new one. change was always inevitable; he was a god of chaos, he knew that. ]
But I won't ask that of you. Everyone needs to change, that's one thing that's always certain.
[ climbing down his hand again, Bacon dips a pudgy little foot into the water, and Loki lets it slip from his dark nailed fingers with a little splash of delight from the little thing. pushing up his sleeves, and looking over his shoulder with a resigned sigh, he goes to work finishing what he had started. Bacon wiggles defiantly, and Loki draws his lips down into a little mock frown.
the transformation is evident, and he takes a step back to give his squidge the space it needs, tucking his hands in his pockets. after the elongation and the gentle swaying, Loki gives Bacon the once-over. ]
I suppose Bacon doesn't suit you much anymore, does it? [ and because everyone changes: ] You're more of an Eindride, anyway.
[ ...
WELL WHAT'S HE SUPPOSED TO DO NOW. ]
Jungle
Which means Loki's going to hear something akin to a herd of elephants tromping through the woods behind him, until the straw-hat wearing pirate takes a dive--trying to grab the red jelly-baby that runs out between Loki and Bacon.
Here's hoping the dive-tackle doesn't have more than one casualty when the rubberman throws himself bodily out into the clearing with the rainbow berry bush.]

You get it. Which might explain why Sieglinde is passed out in her makeshift bedroll, dead asleep. There's a few items scattered about that indicate she might have fallen asleep by accident- some notes on her chest, a silent silver... music box? open near her head, a pen near a hand...
You'd probably just let her sleep... except her squidge is bawling loudly and incessantly not a foot from her ear, and despite the problems that's likely causing everyone else around her... she doesn't even twitch.]
⚝ 02; POISON ON THE LOOSE
[Taking care of your squidge when its skin was actually toxic was not the easiest thing to do. Ever since that particular evolution had manifested Sieglinde had taken to wearing gloves and multiple layers of clothing, toeing the line between heat exhaustion and poison control safety while she tried to formulate an antihistamine of sorts, but.
Her squidge didn't like being the subject of experimentation.
It's also currently on the run from one, and though Sieglinde had unbound her feet, she still wasn't steady on them, let alone over the questionable jungle floors, so she's lagging behind as her grape-colored squidge scampers through the underbrush, teetering and trying to get over a large tree root, trying to get the attention of the nearest recruit.]
Grab that squidge- Ah, not directly, it's skin is poisonous- !
⚝ 03; WELLSPRING GROWTH
[While people around her are maybe teary-eyed and feeling upset about parting from their squidges... Sieglinde is now staring up at her towering six foot tall charge, frowning slightly. For its part, it seems to be just quietly sitting, the prehensile tail swishing slowly behind it.
Anyone close enough to hear might be able to hear Sieglinde's mutterings, though.]
How did that even work... ?
[Seriously, she wants a sample of that wellspring water...]
⚝ 04; WILDCARD
[Sieglinde will be doing her usual "bumming rides off people" during the jungle trek, gathering botanical samples and the like, and once at the wellspring she'll be setting up for some experiments. Anything goes!]
02
It's already too late when she adds in the second part, both hands already grasping the wriggling jelly-thing still. He looks down at it with a wide-eyed expression, then turns his head to it's mother.
A sort of awkward smile on his face.]
--Isn't it hard, raising a squidge that you can't really touch, lady??

Motochika | OTA
[Motochika was more than happy to be out of the desert, and while the change in scenery wasn't really any cooler, it was a whole lot less dry, which was what he really cared about. Mostly, he kept to the land, but eventually he stumbles on a pool calm enough for one last lesson he wanted to impart on his charge.
Unfortunately for anyone else in earshot, his squidge takes to swimming lessons the same way it's taken to nearly everything else on the journey--by screeching loudly about it.]
H-hey. C'mon. It's not that bad, I promise. I'm not gonna let you drown or anything!
[The squidge doesn't seem to be in any real peril--Motochika is supporting it the way one might when trying to get a child used to the water, but the squidge is having none of it, much to his dismay.]

Ban | OTA
[Ban hadn't bothered shaving during their mission at all, leaving him with a shaggy beard that lent a rather poor image of him or, at least, one that had been somewhat worse than before. He took to criticisms poorly normally but once Sieglinde took the opportunity to snub him appropriate about looking like a homeless vagrant and a slouch he supposed he had to do something about it.
So, he set Lump down for a nap by a creek in the jungle and went about the business of shaving himself. He cleaned himself up rather nicely, inspecting himself in a bit of still water's reflection, pleased with his appraisal. When he returned to Lump and began setting up to make the young creature something to eat, he lifted a brow at a sudden and startled cry. Lump flung himself from his bedroll and backed away from Ban, whimpering at the sudden and unfamiliar face.]
Ah? What's gotten into you so suddenly? Brat--
[Lump ran, leaving Ban flabbergasted. He stood up suddenly, leaving his task aside as he ran after his squidge.]
Come back here, dumbass! We ain't playin' games!
2
[After bathing Lump in the pool, Ban was left with a somber realization that he wasn't quite needed, anymore. The entire time he had watched over the squidge, he had asked himself what his parents wouldn't do. He took care of him. He fed him, kept him warm and kept him safe. Ban went out of his way at every turn to make sure the charge he was given had every necessity he believed a child should have been entitled to. By then, Ban realized the sudden grown that had undertaken Lump was the signal for him to stop taking care of him.
He and Lump exchanged a look before Ban turned from the pool, stretching his arms over his head.]
Kahaha! Finally! This pain in the ass job is over and done with! I've got some time to play around on my own~! Good luck, braaaat ♪!
[It was absolutely hollow as far as laughs went. Lump made no motion to follow Ban, deciding to do a little exploring and socializing around the pool, instead. Ban's absence wouldn't hit him quite yet.
Ban sauntered from the pools, wanting very much to be alone.]
3
[The night before their departure, a massive tree sprung up a few hundred yards from the site of the spring. This tree, massive enough to be comparable to a city skyscraper, spread a wealth of life through the jungle that livened every plant remotely close to it. The shaking that accompanied its growth lasted for roughly a half hour in the dead of night, when others had fallen asleep.
Having planted the seed of the Almoca Tree with his own, magically affixed blood, Ban remained to watch the whole thing grow until it was fully matured. By the morning, it was thriving and adding a new layer of beauty to the place.
Later, Ban could be found at the base of the supermassive tree, napping amongst the roots--waiting for their time to leave. He hadn't seen Lump since, but the squidge had gone looking for him. He was having a tough time finding the immortal in the jungle.]
4
[If you like, write a starter! Ping me on plurk @dannication or just PM me.]
1
But the sound of Ban's voice brought her out of it just in time to see the squidge run past and... not do anything about it.
Instead, she just blinks, and looks at the newly shaven Ban approaching.]
Oh- Finally.

Haise Sasaki | Tokyo Ghoul:re
[In their time in this world, Haise has been exposed to a great number of environments with which he'd no firsthand familiarity. Having only known the urban confines of Tokyo, he's experienced quite a lot more than he'd ever imagined during what seems an incredibly short time. He takes in the scenery of the jungle with wide, curious grey eyes, as though he's stepped into some remarkable scene in which he doesn't belong.
With his squidge Haku cradled in his arms, he seems in no particular rush to get to their destination now that it's drawn close. Instead he's indulging in what time remains with his tiny alien companion, murmuring observations about the sights and picking his way along in something of a haze.
Compared to his first mission, this one is so much more serene... And he senses that he's going to miss it, when it comes to an end.
Immersed in these thoughts, he's not entirely in the present, and eventually that catches up to him. As he draws near to a pool of water, he slips on some moss and flails to right himself, Haku's wings allowing the little squidge to bob in the air before hasty arms catch him.
Haise puffs out vexed sigh, and for just an instant, one might swear that his left eye changed color...before he closes it, that is. Just the one eye, like he's managed to injure it]
II. Wellspring
[Eventually, Haise and Haku reach their destination. After some dubious staring at the water, he carefully lowers his squidge into the shallows. He isn't entirely sure what to expect, but seeing Haku stretch and grow so rapidly is enough to inspire him to gawk at the once-small creature as he swiftly becomes taller than the investigator is.
One might be given to wonder just how long that startled look will remain on his face before Haise abruptly recovers with an airy laugh, tossing his arms around Haku's elongated torso]
You grew up so tall! I'm almost jealous.
[Haku coos in reply, arms now long enough to wrap around him in something strongly resembling a bear-hug in return, hauling Haise off his feet. Of course, when that hug lasts for some minutes...]
H-hey...you should probably let me down...
[He doesn't sound nervous so much as bemused]
III. Parted Ways
[This journey feels both long and brief, when Haise thinks on it. Once it's time to prepare to leave and he's parted company with his squidge, it's clear that he's trying to keep himself busy. Anyone keen to observe will notice the way that he packs and repacks his belongings, absentminded and distant throughout each recurrence of this process...
And how he lingers on a well-worn ring-shaped wooden rattle every time]
[ooc: *This prompt open just to the first person to respond ICly]
You better believe I'm snapping up #1!! >:D
Laedo, startled, rises to provide aid, but Haise is already back on his feet, as solid as ever. The askan is not the dreamy sort, however, and that briefly blackened eye is more alarming than the potential spill would have been. He stops himself, one hand coming up for a moment as he does the strangest thing: he sniffs the air. As though, for a moment, instinct taking over, the askan is worried that somehow Haise has been taken over by caetran magic, like he can smell it.
Of course that is not the case, but for a few long seconds the askan mulls what to say, or if he should say anything.
In the end, he decides on humour for the situation, knowing Haise's particular attitude towards tense moments.]
It would appear that you and eye share more in common than I would have thought.

[Kojuro is enjoying the dampness of the jungle, after the unrelenting dry heat of the desert. Not like home, but it was a bit like Nalawi, and he had grown comfortable there. Right now he and Shigenaga have found a nice tree to sit at the base of as they both snack on the multicolored berries of a nearby bush.
Shige seems particularly fond of the blue ones, and his greenish-brown scales are starting to go a bit blue.]
Ah... I hope that's normal... [the squidge seems pretty unbothered by it, really]
ii
[But not all plants are quite so harmless. The waxy golden bulb of nectar had seemed safe enough, given he had seen Imber consume several of the things two weeks before, but Shige is thrashing around violently, shrieking in between throwing up. Kojuro is holding him, trying to be gentle, but the panicked expression on his face makes it clear he's out of his depth and deeply worried]

fiona / open
However. She forgot that the squidge had evolved into a very good climber, only remembering this after she slips and falls over herself, while the squidge just sort of casually sticks itself to a rock, unbothered. Rolling onto her back, Fiona blows a loose strand of hair out of her face and glowers at the little jelly baby.] I really hope that maturing means you get better at looking where you're going.
ii. OBLIGATORY SEXY BATHING PROMPT.
Even in its wet season, Pandora's climate is not what one would call humid; she's used to the dry heat of the desert, and wandering around in a jungle feels like she is trying to walk through soup. Which is not pleasant, in case that wasn't clear. The water here is cool and apparently (after studying it really hard and also throwing rocks in it and stuff) danger-free, so she takes the opportunity to slip into a pool at the bottom of a waterfall, trying to forget how freakin' uncomfortable it is on this planet. At least she didn't get eaten.]
iii. WILDCARD.
obligatory number 2
Particularly if that literally anything comes with a pool, double particularly if that pool is already occupied. Ramir brightens as she realizes that latter fact, and as soon as she's in clear sight of Fiona, lets out a wolf whistle by way of a geeting. Just as good. Better, probably, because now this lady knows someone's here and that she looks really great in a pool. ]

Sorey l Tales of Zestiria
[Here's a teen who has no clue what may or may not be safe to actually eat or even touch around here, for that matter. But he's trying to be cautious for Amenoch's sake. Unfortunately, this does not automatically equate to knowing what is or isn't safe. Or for that matter, do anything to nullify his clumsiness at times, for all his attempts of caution.
All that moss? It's making him slip. He attempts to right his balance but fails, flailing as he trips.]
Water boys:
[Sorey being Sorey, he's willing to make the most of this. He might be basking in said pool in his underwear while washing the rest of his clothes after the harsher weather recently in the desert and all. Come help, watch or join him in the water. Either way, he seems to be enjoying himself, as Amenoch sits and watches from the edge of the pool, attempting to help lay out his wet clothes at the side.
Or alternatively, come across him and Mikleo playfighting and splashing each other. Though really, if Mikleo wanted, he could easily have the upper hand, being a water seraph and all. But Sorey's enjoying himself, even if their chatter and playfulness has devolved into this, laughing and evidently not having any sort of fear at all of all the water in spite of being unable to actually swim. At least Amenoch seems to be getting some amusement from it, clapping his 'hands' and seemingly laughing along.]
Goodbye, I'll miss you:
[Of course, Sorey is reluctant to say farewell. But he has to eventually let Amenoch bathe and go his own way. This was always going to be a temporary arrangement until the next mission. He knew that. But it's still sad, there's still something of an ache as he hugs the goo baby farewell before releasing him and watching the squidge go forward and into the water of the Wellspring.
Of course he stays to watch what happens, and stick around a little after to ensure Amenoch will be okay. There may be some tears shed. Sorey is indeed a huge sap, okay?]
jungle
Whoah, now, watch where you're going.

Sakura Kinomoto l Cardcaptor Sakura
[Sakura couldn't help being curious at finding some of those berries of various colours. She tries some first before deeming them safe for Ruby Rose to eat too. Now it seems both have satisfied themselves rather nicely, if Ruby Rose's colour and Sakura's cheeks are any indication. Luckily both seemed full before eating too much and getting a little ill from it.]
Want some? I think Ruby Rose has had enough now.
Heat:
[There's only so much Sakura can manage before it gets a bit much for her, at least, physically. As stubborn as she usually is. She's rather flushed as she sits almost listlessly near the pool of water, dipping her feet in and with Ruby Rose held on her lap.]
It's still so hot.....
[She may have been pushing herself a little too much lately, between the fight with the swamp monster injuring her and the desert and all.]
Fare thee well:
Ruby Rose....[Sakura, for all her inexperience, is relieved to have made it. That just doesn't stop the tears even as she clings to the squidge, at least managing to be mindful for the wings in the process of the hug before the pink blob would enter the Wellspring.
Someone may need to physically pry or gently encourage her away from the squidge to let Ruby Rose actually get on with this eventually.]
heat
[Says a voice behind her - Keats approaches, his squidge trodding behind him. It's been a long and very tough journey, and Keats doesn't blame people who have been exhausted by the whole thing. Even he's tired, though he's doing his best not to show it.]

for sigma
(Although, she has to admit, that premonition thing was actually a little handy — if he could keep that up reliably, she'd feel a little better about his chances out here.)
But squidges still tend to ruin everything, as far as she's concerned, and their quality time was a little less quality than it could have been. Her relief is palpable as she sends Vito toddering massively off to go and be an adult with the other big squidges, post-bath. After that, Sigma's the very next scheduled visit, and where ever he happens to be he'll find himself with two arms coming in for a from-behind, tight hug. ]

traversing an alien planet? scavenging for food and keeping another lifeform alive and happy? co-existing with rogers for a month? those were the challenges.
and yet, poised here at the brink of the wellspring, watching the others release their squidges and say their farewells, tony's found himself faced with some very sobering realizations, that have been creeping on over the last few weeks.
mostly that he's grown actually attached to the little bugger, and that he's realized that if he leaves sparky here, he's no better than his own father, stepping away and abandoning him entirely. everyone else seems to have accepted the necessity of it, which plants a dangerous thought in his head: how much would one of the little guys really be missed? surely just one couldn't tip the scales that much either way. after all, not everyone's made it in the first place...
which is why he's now standing at a distance from the rest, sparky tucked in his pack, trying to convince himself this is fine. ]
no subject
the problem is one he probably figured out fairly quickly. even after being dipped in the Wellspring and reaching her final form, so to speak, Osaki still responded unfavorably to flash stepping, proving that she still hadn't managed to overcome some of the fears associated with fast movement- also it wasn't fear so much as it was discomfort.
it's not hard to figure out the rest.
Osaki hasn't left his side for longer than a few moments, even after being dipped in the Wellspring, though she does seem to be running away for longer and longer intervals as he makes his rounds among the other members of the team.
and, of course, here's Tony, always managing to stand out.] It's fascinating, isn't it, Tony-san? It's a shame we don't have time to figure out how all this works.
