MINI-EVENT ★ WELCOME/RESCUE PARTY

WELCOME/RESCUE PARTY

The temporal insects have all either been squished or hopped into another dimension and all of Oska's inhabitants have gone back to their (relatively) normal selves. However, they didn't leave before chewing through some of the rift magitek, causing the new arrivals to end up in a slightly less safe place than the castle.

The new Audentes recruits are dropped right at the edge of this pocket universe in the untamed forest. It's easy to lose your way in here, and to make it even harder, it's dark and storming. Going off without a buddy or two isn't recommended; you may walk in circles for hours. Meanwhile, a select few recruits receive a frantic message from Dagny begging for their help in locating these members and bringing them safely home, promising a reward in return.

The forest is home to a whole host of unusual creatures, some friendly, some not. While you're avoiding a run-in with them, you'll also have to be careful not to step into the pockets of distorted reality left behind in the temporal insects' wake. Each pocket seems to be from the time before Oska was ALASTAIR's HQ, when it was still just a crumbling universe. The feelings and sensations are vivid; the earthquakes feel very real, as does the falling debris, so watch your head.

When everyone has returned safely to the castle, Dagny will be waiting with the promised rewards. Each established recruit who participated in the rescue and all the newcomers will receive two bracelets, both made of a thin gold chain, and the instructions to give the extra to somebody close to them to tighten their bond.

OOC NOTES

Established recruits are entrusted with diving into the forest and bringing the newbies back to safety. Once they have, everyone is welcome to get situated in Oska until the next mission starts.

Characters aren't required to give their second bracelet away, but those who do (or have their bracelet stolen/lost/found) will find that the moment both bracelets are slipped on, they'll share a significant memory of theirs with the other wearer and vice versa. This is a one-time effect and will not work after the first time, even with different wearers.

Please note again that this log occurs after the temporal bugs have been cleared out. Due to the OOC extension of the previous event as well as this mini-event, the IC time between the bug extermination and the start of the mission has been extended past the 24 hours stated in the dossier to around half a week.

As a reminder, this log is open to newcomers and those who signed up on the OOC post only.

[ Confronted with this particular spectacle, Shiro's momentarily at a loss. It's not every day you come face to face with a giant floating skull. Is this actually happening to him? He'd honestly thought the upper limit of unbelievable happenings in his life had maxed out after the Galra, the giant space lions and the green goo Coran kept trying to foist onto them, but apparently he was wrong on that.

And truthfully, this isn't what Shiro's here for either, but he's not about to walk away and leave Fiona to deal with this on her own. ]

Hey!

[ Shiro follows up that shout with a rock whipped at the back of the skull. It's not his best plan. The rain isn't making a dent in the flames, and that doesn't bode well for either of them, but better the giant flaming skull chase him around the forest than anyone else. ]

[Fiona is equal parts surprised and relieved that someone is intervening. That sort of thing doesn't happen on Pandora, people look out for themselves -- if a pack of skags is mauling someone, that means they aren't mauling you -- and she once again has to remind herself that the people in ALASTAIR come from all different kind of places. Some of these places even have morality.

It works, though: the giant skull whips around toward Shiro, screaming at him now instead. Fiona's natural inclination is to use this opening to get the fuck out of here, but it would be more polite to return the favor.

She wields the branch like a baseball bat, whacking the skull hard on the... skull. Which obviously makes it turn back to her almost immediately.]
Ooh. I should have thought that out more.

[ This is Not Good. Shiro has that realization and has about a split second to consider it before realizing the skull is absolutely going after Fiona again. Shiro's at a loss. He's not sure how you neutralize a flaming skull. He can't even poke it in the eye. ]

Run! [ Shiro shouts, because a strategic retreat seems to be the best course of action. ] We've got to run!

[ How fast can a flaming skull actually move? Shiro's more willing to find that out than he is willing to take his chances with being consumed by flames trying to kick this opponent in the fiery teeth. ]

God -- you don't have to tell me twice! [He really doesn't; she's already running away before the words completely leave her mouth. If there's one thing she's good at, it's knowing when to get the hell out of any given situation.

The rain and mud and... all the trees... don't make it super easy to flee, but she's doing her best, glancing back to make sure Shiro is following. The giant flaming skull is of course following, though it doesn't seem to be setting anything on fire as it crashes through the trees.]

So -- this is awkward, but -- hi, I'm Fiona!

[ Getting the hell out of dodge, even though Shiro has no idea if they're running in the right direction or not, is the only safe bet right now. He darts after Fiona, praying that she's leading them in the direction of some kind of shelter, rather than deeper into the forest and potentially towards further disaster.

Sharp stabs of pain shoot up his side every time he heaves a breath, but the alternate is stopping and being mowed down by a giant skull. He'll deal with whatever damage he's doing to himself. ]

Shiro! [ He shouts back. ] I'm Shiro.

[ Getting chased by a flaming skull immediately elevates her to friend status. ]

Quick, turn right!

[ Or fling themselves bodily into a bush. Great idea, right? ]

[Ha ha, oh, Shiro. That is some wishful thinking. Fiona has no clue where she's going, she's just kind of fleeing in terror right now. It works... usually! Though the forest is disorienting her; she's not used to this much greenery. It all looks the same.]

Right -- right! [Right as in correct, but also right as in the direction she darts in. Right into a bush.] Oh, my g-- oof!

[At least it works; the skull just keeps flying by, screaming into the distance.]
