MINI-EVENT ★ WELCOME/RESCUE PARTY

WELCOME/RESCUE PARTY

The temporal insects have all either been squished or hopped into another dimension and all of Oska's inhabitants have gone back to their (relatively) normal selves. However, they didn't leave before chewing through some of the rift magitek, causing the new arrivals to end up in a slightly less safe place than the castle.

The new Audentes recruits are dropped right at the edge of this pocket universe in the untamed forest. It's easy to lose your way in here, and to make it even harder, it's dark and storming. Going off without a buddy or two isn't recommended; you may walk in circles for hours. Meanwhile, a select few recruits receive a frantic message from Dagny begging for their help in locating these members and bringing them safely home, promising a reward in return.

The forest is home to a whole host of unusual creatures, some friendly, some not. While you're avoiding a run-in with them, you'll also have to be careful not to step into the pockets of distorted reality left behind in the temporal insects' wake. Each pocket seems to be from the time before Oska was ALASTAIR's HQ, when it was still just a crumbling universe. The feelings and sensations are vivid; the earthquakes feel very real, as does the falling debris, so watch your head.

When everyone has returned safely to the castle, Dagny will be waiting with the promised rewards. Each established recruit who participated in the rescue and all the newcomers will receive two bracelets, both made of a thin gold chain, and the instructions to give the extra to somebody close to them to tighten their bond.

OOC NOTES

Established recruits are entrusted with diving into the forest and bringing the newbies back to safety. Once they have, everyone is welcome to get situated in Oska until the next mission starts.

Characters aren't required to give their second bracelet away, but those who do (or have their bracelet stolen/lost/found) will find that the moment both bracelets are slipped on, they'll share a significant memory of theirs with the other wearer and vice versa. This is a one-time effect and will not work after the first time, even with different wearers.

Please note again that this log occurs after the temporal bugs have been cleared out. Due to the OOC extension of the previous event as well as this mini-event, the IC time between the bug extermination and the start of the mission has been extended past the 24 hours stated in the dossier to around half a week.

As a reminder, this log is open to newcomers and those who signed up on the OOC post only.

If the transportation method is stable, then I don't see a downside to it. Yes, perhaps it may even be faster using that way instead.

Do you plan on using teleportation here Lieutenant? [He's not wholly against the idea of transportation. Admittedly, it sounds almost a little too convenient to be true. Is there a down side to this? It can't be that easy to achieve teleportation. Technology's advanced in the world where Julius comes from and even they haven't created any teleporting devices yet.

He keeps walking cautiously while trying to avoid any potential pitfalls. Within three seconds Julius losses his footing slightly and he nearly falls over. Helppp Riza! He's not going to die or anything, except he can't get up on his own and that's a problem. ]

[Carefully, she fishes out the necklace from underneath her uniform before carefully lifting it slightly to show off the two rings dangling from the silver chain. Neither are particularly remarkable - two silver circlets, each with different inscriptions - but one might be the key to them leaving this side rift without a hitch.

Hopefully.]

I've had this ring for some time. Supposedly it'll return the wearer to his or her last place of shelter - Oska castle for me. I don't know if it'll work with two people, but it might be worth the risk.

[She can't think of any better time to use it than now, and with a better person than her first friend here.]

But I'll leave the final decision in your hands, sir.

[After all, his life is at risk here too.]

[He's silent at first because he wants to think this one through. Riza's correct though, it does seem like it's worth taking the risk when you consider their circumstances.]

You'd trust me with that? [People don't usually trust Julius with important decisions outside of his usual duties. This is strange to him. At least it's coming from Riza so he understands her intentions.]

Very well. Let's use your ring Lieutenant Hawkeye. As the situation stands now, we don't have anything to lose by trying. [That's what he believes anyways. He wants to put his faith in Riza's possibly risky method. Using the ring's better than being trapped in nowhere's village.]

What should we do to activate its effect? [Tell him how to use those weird trinkets, Riza. He's on board with this plan. ]

[Truth be told, most forms of magic are outside her expertise. The exact mechanism and use of the ring still lie just outside the realm of her knowledge, but she's got an inkling of what she ought to do to get it to work. Hopefully her intuition isn't wrong.]

We wish and hope like hell the ring does what it's supposed to.

[Not very convincing when all is said and done, but most magic doesn't sound particularly trustworthy when spelled out fully. One hand grips the ring tightly; the other reaches out towards Julius.]

You'll have to take my hand, sir.
viscontree: 2k16 english rb he's still a shit (no more i cant take ittttttt)

[personal profile] viscontree 2016-09-13 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. Here. [Julius offers his hand out towards Riza. His stern expression softens a little knowing a trustworthy comrade is near. "Wishing" and "hoping" seems easy enough to do. ]

This should be sufficient, right? I'm...not used to doing this. Forgive me. [Slow shake of his head. He's being so awkward and it can't be helped!! For now, he'll keep holding onto Riza's hand with a tight grip if it means they can get out of here sooner than later.]

[Upon seeing Julius stumble, her cool demeanor cracks just enough to let a small smile through, gentle and kind. She's always been in the same boat, forced to be an anchor of support, unyielding. It takes a lot to admit to weakness. He shouldn't be penalized for that.]

You're fine, sir.

[And that's all she says before directing all her energy towards the ring in her other hand, wishing and hoping. Insubstantial material for a maneuver such as thus, but also the strongest there is out there. They flicker out of existence for a brief moment—and then when they wink back into existence, instead of falling debris and the threat of rain there's only solid castle wall surrounding them and a steady glow from a nearby torch.

Her shoulders sag in relief.]

We're back.

Everything turned out well, I'm relieved. [He lets out a sigh knowing they're safe. Teleporting is strange, yeah. Julius will never get used to this in his life time. It was worth trying once just to return where they should be.]

Thank you. [Without Riza's quick thinking they might have been stuck in the forest for a longer time. Thank goodness her ring worked. Julius pauses for a moment while contemplating on their situation. ]

Lieutenant, could you let me know when you're available? I want to speak with you more.

[When she lets go of the ring, she finds it dull and faded. No longer magical then, as far as she can tell, though it's pretty enough still as a simple accessory. It seems a shame to throw it away; maybe she'll keep it for luck. (But she's never been particularly lucky.)

His question has her standing at attention again, nodding once decisively.]

Of course. Whenever you're free.

[Though she imagines he might want to rest a bit in his room first...]
viscontree: (pretends to know what hes doing)

[personal profile] viscontree 2016-09-16 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Alright. We'll talk more later then. [Pretty much. He's tired as hell from their trip earlier and the mission transfer. Resting should be his first priority. Catching up on past times can wait a bit!!]

Still, I can't believe we're working together again. I am grateful for this opportunity. Let's make everything count, Lieutenant Hawkeye.

[He's not the only one that's grateful. She's happy to see him alive and well and back again; he had been one of her first friends here, after all. It shows the smile she gives him as he departs, warm and content.]

Of course. Rest well, sir.
