[ Dipper hadn't been out for too long yet—fifteen at most, probably—spending the short time wondering how to start off his day. He's seen most of the town by now... Perhaps he should start doing some digging regarding the mission ahead of them?

... Or raid the candy aisles of the apothecary again?

No matter the thoughts wandering through his mind; Dipper is jerked out of his thoughts when he hears his name called out. Well, his name following "brave-hearted"... He thinks that about him? Really? The dumbfounded look on his face breaks into a lopsided grin that he can't help but make as he pauses in front of Achilles. ]

Hey, man—long time no see. What's up?

[He appears to consider this question quite seriously, with his brow twisted in bemusement for he is yet one ill-versed in the slang of eras so distant from his own. Thus it is with light amusement that he gives his answer.]

Why, what could be up but for the sun which rises still in the sky?

[Translation: what are you talking about, young whippersnapper?]

Moreover, I hope that since last we met, you have found adventure enough to sate your young heart. Although I remember well how fiercely a man may hunger when fresh with youth. Doubtlessly this landscape so wild and strange is well to your liking.

[ Alas, the translation is lost on Dipper, who takes the literal answer as more of a joke. A very cliche one. He rolls his eyes—'cause c'mon, that's the oldest one in the book—before getting to the next topic. ]

Well, a lot's happened, at least. [ As usual, really. ] But I gotta admit, this place is pretty cool so far. It's just like the wild west! Just, you know, on an alien planet.

[ Dipper pauses briefly, hand to his chin. ]

Which is probably all completely new to you, right?

Into the vasty wilds of the west I've not sailed, this is true - none among the long-haired Achaeans knows what lies beyond Oceanus, whether strange lands or the end of the earth itself. Thus this land is like none I have ever seen, and the customs of its people are not wholly to my liking. To this I suppose I shall have to acquiesce.

[He cannot hide the disdain that is thick upon his tongue, nor does he make any particular effort to do so. If he wishes to have food to eat and bed in which to sleep then he has little choice but to accept the half-hearted hospitality of the wild-eyed Qorral.]

[ ... Not quite the kind of wild west he was talking about, but Dipper supposes that answers his question enough. ]

Give it a while—maybe you'll come to like it?

[ Or maybe Achilles will be tough to satisfy, but on the other hand, it's likely been a bigger change than Dipper could ever fathom. Adjusting might be rough.

Without missing a beat, Dipper falls into a step alongside him. ]

Sure thing. What's on the agenda today?

[Achilles is indeed difficult to please: he is a man accustomed to certain ways, and thus he takes time to warm to anything that falls outside of the ordinary. Nonetheless, he accepts Dipper's company as he continues along the narrow sidewalk composed of rough wooden planks, shortening his stride that the boy may more comfortably keep pace.]

This is one feature he quite likes about the clothing favored by the Qorral, the capacity for easy storage on his person. He had unfortunately left the headphones behind, unaware that these are important to the device's function, but he holds up the body of the Walkman that Dipper may behold it.]

[ Achilles has probably spent quite a while attempting to puzzle out what the strange contraption is. Dipper, however, takes one glance at it, and can only wonder one thing: ... really? ]

That's... definitely a cassette player. [ The most ancient of technology, but Dipper won't say that in the face of someone so technologically, uh, inept. They could have at least gone with a CD player! ] Is there a tape inside it?

Inside of it, you say! Then this is some manner of container?

[He peers at the device anew, trying to reconcile this new information with what he sees there in his hand. He then sets to finding where the lid might hide, that he may pry it open and see what waits within. For this he seems little different than someone's grandfather attempting to use the latest technology.]

[ Or in Dipper's case, little different from a certain great uncle of his—which is to say, he's used to this. (Then again, a tape player is old enough that Stan probably knows how to use it. Probably.) He holds up a hand— ]
