your mind's still trapped in twilight
CHARACTERS: Date Masamune & those that I owe a prompt to for this/discussed with.
DATE: after jail-breakout and dispersing
WARNINGS: will update if needed but probably not. He's just delirious from sickness .
SUMMARY: basically his escaping the playpen and then getting his five year-old ass dragged back to the doctor, anyway.
[ he tells himself he must have done this on purpose but he doesn't remember anything to back that claim of his up. He crawls out of the river bed, choking and coughing and gagging until it turns into involuntary retching of blood and bile. All that does is worsen his confused state and his inability to properly focus. This shouldn't be happening, he repeats over and over. His heart is racing as if he just ran here rather than arrived by horse and the chest pain he experiences is little better.
It was better to get out of there if this is the reality of his state, though, he's sure. The unfortunate thing is that it makes it a hell of a lot harder to figure out what to do next. Masamune has no plans on dying—but he wouldn't be responsible for anyone else's death, either, and in the chaos it was a rather rash decision that had no time to be considered. He made a promise to someone to survive (to whom he can't remember right now how stupid of him to forget a face and a name) but everything is suddenly such a mess now that the fight or flight response has drained from him. His condition seemed to deteriorate rapidly upon leaving (or was he the only one that hadn't noticed because it took too much concentration to keep steady?)
Now even breathing, no matter how hard he tries to calm it, is like gasping for air as the world around him spins. Maybe he can just lie here and rest for a few moments? Maybe he is far enough away from whatever he's running from that he can pull himself back together.
He buries his head in his arms, collapsing fully against the bank and tries to calm himself. It only results in a shudder from him despite his best efforts and he feels his horse's snout nudge against his head for a response but he doesn't react. How is his horse here, anyway? Is this real? He wants to tell it to find Kojuro. Kojuro will know what to do.
(He's lost in his own head in sickness, but he already knows that wherever he is, Kojuro is not. Kojuro is missing or has never been here to begin with. Masamune is alone. He's really absolutely alone. Illness like this is the worst because it renders the victim helpless and like a child and he's far too easily lost in fears that stalk him in his very own shadow, relentlessly seeking to plague him once a fracture is found.)
don't look down on me. don't reject me. don't leave me. don't hate me.
don't leave me like her. don't hate me like her.
He believes he merely thinks what he actually says now as he tries to lift himself upon the ground, doubtful and uncertain of himself as much as anyone else that looks on would be. ]
Kojuro, I need you. [ he grits his teeth, fingers curling and sinking into the mud. He hates this. All he can remember is being sick as a child, right now, and it's this same terrifying feeling that brought on all his problems from the start. Why does it have to always ruin everything? Why is Kojuro— ] Why are you somewhere I can't reach...?

Pearl (aftermath/days following)
Like for instance, he has wondered if this would be considered stalking or just spying as he follows Pearl around from a distance during one of her multi-erranded adventures. He only intended to watch her for one go before disappearing but he hasn't quite found his answer yet so he's inevitably still following her in hopes of discovering what he's looking for.
The thing is that he's not making any efforts to hide from Pearl because he's too busy trying to assess her actions and behavior to pin a label on the one that is friends both with Kida and with Gilgamesh. Other than having the tolerance beyond a saint he's not sure what he's expecting.
So he just watches, follows, eats, watches, eats, follows some more. But at one point while he is eating (again), the woman wanders by him, he just glances up at her and follows her path that ends with talking to a local merchant not far enough to constitute a move. So he just looks on, very curious, and eats his candy until he finally just apparently can't stand it anymore. He waits until Pearl goes to pass him again and makes to grab her by the arm and pull her to take a seat next to him before letting go and returning to his candy.
Is he going to say anything, such as explain what the hell that was all about or why he's been following her around like either a) a creeper or b) a lost dog depending on who wants to interpret (although any suggestions of him of intent definitely seem to be hinting more towards option b). as threatening as he could be, he's very not so much, right now. It might help that he's not in his full armor (can't do that anymore with their names on the king's shit list... but he doesn't seem to be taking any huge precautions like a disguise or anything at the moment.
...thank you for joining him, pearl! ]

Masamune may notice, on his stake outs, that Pearl had an unusual red mark on the back of one of her hands. It was intricate, in the shape of a flower. It certainly wasn't there before if he had ever seen her on the network.
Pearl could feel someone watching her this day. It's unsettling to say the least. She clutches onto her bag of ingredients, walking a little faster. It's too late. She feels herself tugged down to sit next to a man. Flinching, she moves to stand up, her shoulders shrugged up to her ears, clearly offended.]
Excuse me! [She hisses in a whisper.]
What is the meaning of this?!
no subject
Still, it's pretty great that she can keep herself in control despite. She clearly is not intending to draw attention despite being unhappy. He swallows his candy and smiles. ] Yo~ [ he's so weird with his greetings sorry pearl... ] I was just admiring the ink design on your hand. It's really intricate.
[ his smile softens now, looking almost apologetic but not there intentionally. It takes him a second or two, but the reason become pretty obvious as he is trying to pronounce her name correctly without too harsh of an accent. ] Miss Pearl, right?
no subject
It's nothing, really.
[Again, someone who knew her name. Do people talk about her that much? She's caught off guard by it.]
Yes, that's me. Is there something you need from me?
no subject
[ but... It's not his business and he has no suspicions to throw or otherwise confirm, therefore he moves along. ]
I just was trying to get an idea of the person who considers both Kidagakash and Gilgamesh friends is, that's all. But, I think I understand a little more now. I remember you way back when offering to help people train who didn't know any battle skills.
[ He's still looking at her a little curiously now. ] You okay? You seem a little anxious.
[ obviously this has nothing to do with him??? Boys??? ]
no subject
[Pearl could almost feel her seals tingle at the mention of Kida and Gilgamesh. She narrows her eyes at him, brows furrowing in confusion.]
Yes, they are both my friends. They have helped me through some troubling times here, under ALASTAIR. It's only fair that I give them the same respect that they have presented to me. [She shifts the bag to her hip, holding it with one hand as the other rests on her other hip.]
Do you have an issue with whom I consider as a friend?
no subject
I don't know, do you feel I should? That's a hasty conclusion to jump to, isn't it?
no subject
No. I just find it strange that you bring both of them up. I care about both of them very much. I worried about them on the days leading up to the jailbreak. Thankfully, I was able to help them out.
no subject
Is it? They're kind of really different aren't they? You don't think it's strange that someone would be curious what kind of person can spread their tolerance so generously?
[ okay but no what the heck is this thing on her hand—he sense something to it that sets alarm bells off but when he really focuses to try to get an idea, the feeling disappears all together as if a hallucination. Masamune frowns a little before looking up to Pearl and then past her, glancing around in the shadows casted by the lamps.
...maybe he's looking at this the wrong way and that's what's confusing him. ]
A transfer? [ he mutters to himself, really but it's not out of the question she could hear him. ]
no subject
[She sees him eying her Command Seals once more. It doesn't seem like he knew what they were. Was that really a good thing or a bad thing in this case? It doesn't look like he'll be letting up on it anytime soon. Pearl extends that hand outward, to give him a better look at the back of her hand. The seals are in a shape of a flower.]
It's... something Gilgamesh gave me.
no subject
[ when pearl lets him see Masamune is definitely back to looking at it, clear surprise on his face and his voice. ]
Really, he can do art like this? [ That's talent. It's simple in a lot of sense but the design is unique and it's simplicity is what makes it also so complicated. Where to take out where to pull in. ] maybe he should do more of this and lay off the stage singing...
[ honestly pearl is probably the first to meet Masamune with him displaying this side of his personality rather than the more authoritative and aggressive one he uses as a warlord. Considering he hasn't been able to fight or train in three weeks or more now, he's basically lost most of his frontline persona by default. This is a rarer one, one that settles in beyond down times in war, more during season changes when fights are halted until the weather warms. He's definitely got an attitude during those times too, but it might be possible that Pearl's presence is very different from most females he meets that he can't find reason to really treat her like he would most women. Not that he's disrespectful towards them but he doesn't make any extra effort to treat them with more respect than he would another male and he certainly wouldn't be so interested interested in this conversation with anyone else. ]
no subject
[Pearl furrows her brow. How can she explain it? She sets down her bag by her feet and holds her wrist gently, looking at tge marking. She had to go about this delicately. She couldn't just blurt out what they were now. Master and Servant. It might be taken the wrong way.
But Masamune seems to be familiar with the Heroic Spirit.]
You know what Gilgamesh is, correct?
no subject
...Yeah, not entirely something I can easily wrap my mind around, but I can't say that seeing him in prison didn't make his commentary here and there from before a little clearer. [ awkward moment when you definitely have to retrace back your conversations because you totally just went along for the ride of gil shooting his mouth off. because the lion was more important. getting drunk was more of a priority. uhm... kicking him in the face was worth almost getting impaled by like 50 weapons from an almost 360 angle at once. because the leash commentary still keeps coming back to him when he tries to work through things and he has a rage moment.
no subject
He needed magic to survive, instead of having to feed off others so often. He didn't wish to be weak, and I wanted to help him. He needs a constant supply so... [Letting out a shakey sigh, she holds her hand up once more.] I offered my own magic to help him through his stay here.
[How he interprets it is up to him, but Pearl is confident in her choice as she stands tall with certainty.]
I promise, he won't be any trouble. [Mostly.]
1/idk
I believe you. [ mostly. at least, he believes her to whatever her extent is. anything he does is on him and not her, as far as he's concerned and it's not as if her making gilgamesh capable of being useful is a bad thing, right? he has no excuse— ]
2/4 ok nvm i figured it out
w a i t.
speaking of excuses. ]
3/4
actually, isn't that partly the reason any standoffs that should have been fights were not turned in such a direction? it's a lot more energy usage to fight with Masamune than do other things. ]
no subject
BUT NO it's just that as the only hint (well that and his momentary expression that goes along with bag crushing motion) before he shakes his head and just shrugs it off as he's over thinking it. No way is Gilgamesh going to make that connection and exploit it. That's too much direct thinking and while Masamune has time to ponder it there's plenty of other people for Gilgamesh to harass now. ]
Makes a lot more sense now. You're pretty selfless even though you don't think it's big deal. It's refreshing.
[ This is fine. ]
So, uhm, sorry if my following you around was making you antsy. On top of that, I sort of needed advice, but I couldn't really ask until I was sure you were the right person.
no subject
[She twirls her hand in the air as she searches for the correct word.]
...brash. But he's very noble and holds his word. In his own unique ways of course. [She could see where people would frown upon Gilgamesh. Obnoxious, pushy, loud mouthed and so on. Maybe they just haven't had time to really talk to him like she has. Whatever the case may be, it's pushed aside as she tilts her head to one side.]
You know, you could have politely asked, instead of stalking me all day.
What kind of advice do you need?
no subject
And... Yeah, he could have, except that's a normal thing to do why would it cross his head. Also because nightmares of things... that he's totally not going to think or reference and instead smiles sheepishly. ]
Yeah, I wasn't really thinking... I'm doing that a lot lately, I guess. [... The not thinking thing not the stalking thing. ] Also, my name is Date Masamune. It seems unfair for me having yours but you not mine.
[he shifts on the bench, putting the candies down and picking a canteen that has tea in it to occupy himself now that he's gone and made sprinkles out of his candy. ]
Uhm, right so I think I made some people angry at me and I kind of need to apologize but I don't usually apologize for things because this doesn't usually happen... but I'm not sure how to do it without potentially making it worse.
[ . . . ]
no subject
What exactly did you do to make things bad in the first place?
no subject
Well. I don't remember doing it, exactly, but let's just go with a hypothetical version of, I don't know, say I may have tried to electrocute them in a body of water while not in my right mind and mistaking their help efforts for the opposite...
[ the way he says it is as if this NORMALLY shouldn't be a big deal but it apparently is—or maybe it's because he just doesn't get what they're really pissed at him over because haha stupid boys. ]
no subject
[Another pause. Pear frowns as she tries to piece this all together, especially from a hypothetical situation.]
And yet you don't want to apologize because...?
no subject
[ he ducks his head a little, stewing over this concept internally. What a miserable thought to be wrong. ]
I mean, I'm sorry about the electrocuting part and making things hard but I didn't ask them to come after me. Why didn't they just leave me alone then none of it would have happened. I separated from them for a reason and it totally backfired when they showed up.
no subject
Either you own up to your mistakes, whether you remember making them or not, or make up for it. Whatever you did to her, it obviously hurt her feelings. Or even more.
[Pearl narrows her eyes at him.]
If you don't act, that anger she feels will only fester. You need to make up for what you did, even if you don't have time to swallow your pride and apologize.
