[ ... much to saffron's chagrin, perhaps. olivia probably wasn't the best candidate to be rearing any lions, tbh, but what can you do. ]

Do you like animals?

He does seem quite lovely! [ And she's itching to give him gentle pats already, though she doesn't want her attention to waver from Olivia too long either. ]

I am very fond of animals. I have two here with me as well, though they are only small hamsters. Perhaps some time soon you will able to meet them as well.

[winces]

Hamsters?

[ would they have hamsters in fantasy jrpg land... who even knows. ]

I would love to, though! Saffron may be bigger, but he's very gentle with other animals as well. [ he and sigma's cat, pepper, for instance, get along splendidly.

at last, though, they reach their destination, and olivia only draws away from sonia so she can set about making them their tea. ]

Do you have a preference for type, Sonia...?

Yes, they are small rodent creatures. Though I admit, they were not mine before I arrived here. I was merely looking after them for a friend at home.

[ She definitely looks happy though. ]

Perhaps we can introduce them later as well. I am certain Cham-P and San-D would love to have more friends as well.

[ Once they're in the kitchens and Olivia is fussing with the tea, Sonia instantly moves to give Saffron some attention. ] Earl Grey, please. With a spot of milk.

[ saffron, for the most part, seems more curious about this new person than cautious. when sonia nears him, he merely tilts his head to the side and makes no other move to indicate he may not be welcome to her advances.

olivia doesn't seem too bothered or concerned, either, instead going about selecting the right leaves for them.

soon enough, the kettle is set on the stove to boil, and olivia has all their things ready for them on the table. ]

He particularly loves it when you scratch just behind his ears.

[ There's not an inch of fear from her anyway (Gundham once brought a bear to class... what's a lion cub when you've seen that--) and she instantly leans down to stroke Saffron's head, giving his fur a soft massage. She isn't too rough, taking her time to make it more enojyable. Animals should be treated with love, after all. ]

He is lovely. You must care for him a lot. [ She'll follow instruction though, scratching him behind his ears. ]

[ and saffron, giant teddy bear that he is, enjoys every second of the attention. if he were the kind of cat to purr, he'd definitely be purring right now. ]

He's been with me for nearly as long as I've been here, [ she admits, gazing down at the animal fondly. ] Throughout it all, he has been my most loyal companion.

[ What a cute lion cub. Sonia even lets out a tiny laugh when he seems to start enjoying it, shifting her own posture to lavish him with more attention. What a spoiled lion tbh. ]

That is truly wonderful. I am glad to hear that you've had such a sweetheart with you all this time. [ Sonia leans forward to give Saffron a small kiss on the head. ] I need not say this, but thank you for being such a good companion to a dear friend of mine.

[ Yeah................ she's talking to the lion about Olivia here. ]

[ WHUT U THINK THATS WEIRD pls olivia has been having conversations with saffron (as well as other inanimate objects) for over a year...

not that saffron has any idea what's happening, of course, but he does seem at least aware that he is being spoken to. and after so long of olivia doing that very same thing, he has learned to at least stare inquisitively at the speaker, and even let out a little ruff in response.

(nearby, olivia bursts from pride.) ]

[ Look, animals it's fine!!! Hopefully she hasn't been making conversations with cupboards though...

Still, Sonia looks just as impressed, even reaching out to gently hug Saffron around his neck. ]

What a good boy you are.

He has been a very faithful companion, [ olivia agrees, just as the kettle begins to whistle.

swiftly, she sets about getting their tea ready, pushing sonia's mug towards her once she's all done. ]

You were studying quite intently back there in the library, [ she says after a moment, looking sonia over. ] Is this for the new mission...?

[ Sonia straightens up when Olivia pushes the mug over. ]

Mm. It has been a while since I properly had the chance to study medicine, so I was revising quite a bit. I thought it may be the most useful option to go to Medical School once we get there... that way I can help more in the long run. Have you put much thought into what you will be doing?

weeps

[winces]

Ah... no. [ she looks down at her her mug, sandwiched between her hands. ] I was beginning to learn a bit about the human body, under a previous member's tutelage... but I doubt I will be able to pass it off very well in this new place. My healing, too, might well be limited.

Ah! I see... if you would like, I could tutor you a little as well? If you would like to learn. It may be too late for it to be in time for the mission, however... Did you have anyone in mind that you would wish to live with? That may be a place to start?

[ She takes a sip of her tea, making a soft appreciative noise at the taste. ]

Oh — I would like that very much, Sonia, thank you.

[ it would be a nice way to honor law, she thinks, to continue her learning on the human anatomy.

however, when sonia continues to speak, olivia feels her cheeks burn hot... yet there also seems to be a note of dread in her tone, too. ]

L-Live with...? [ her voice goes soft, something thick knotting in her throat. ] What... What do you mean...

[assent]

Then I will be happy to help! [ After some rest, anyway. She can't go back to medicine today, that's for sure. Though ah... Sonia stares at Olivia's face as her cheeks colour, but ah... ]

Well, with what this mission will be dealing with it is advisable to live with someone you trust. This could be a pretend father or mother, sister or brother, or even a loved one--that sounds rather fun actually! [ She places her tea down, leaning to look at Olivia excitedly. ]

If you had no plan in mind, I would not mind helping you think of someone you could ask.

[winces]

[ olivia grows quiet for a moment. she thinks instantly, of course, of lucina. an actual daughter, blood relative, and certainly a loved one. but she is not so blind as to realize it would be quite far-fetched to make others believe that the young woman could be her daughter, especially considering how little they actually resemble each other, at least without further scrutiny.

but the last time olivia had lived with someone...

her eyes flutter down, head ducking somewhat. she seems to shrink back at the face of sonia's excitement. ]

I-I don't know if I could... [ after a moment, she whispers, ] It's too soon...

[assent]

[ Sonia instantly pauses, because while she might be excited, she isn't blind to see what is happening here. Something--she doesn't know what--isn't right here. Her hands gently rest on the table, tea to one side, and she ducks slightly to follow Olivia's line of sight. ]

Too soon?

[ Her voice is gentle when she questions her though, not wanting to seem like she's pressuring her either. She wouldn't want to do that. ]

[winces]

[ she is silent a moment, knuckles white now from her grip.

and then she breathes, a deep, steadying thing, and she lifts her eyes once more to meet the others'. ]

It's nothing, [ she says, though not at all convincingly. ] Just the past... [ or so she hopes, anyway. sometimes she manages to convince herself. and then other times... ]

What, um. What of your own cover story?

[assent]

[ Quietly, Sonia slides her own hands over Olivia's on her mug. She doesn't apply pressure, just uses it as a means to let her know she's there as she steadies her breath. ]

Please, you need not hide anything from me, I am more than willing to listen. Though I will not pressure you, I am always open for you... okay?

[ She doesn't know if that will help or not, but whatever look had been on Olivia's face then had been worrying. She wants to be able to support her if she can. ]

I was thinking of asking someone named Giovanni to act as my brother, though I am not sure he will agree to it. [ A beat, then: ] We both speak German, so it seemed fitting.

[winces]

[ olivia makes no comment on sonia's offer of comfort, because she has made too much of a habit of keeping it all to herself. in her eyes, her problems are quite insignificant; it hardly seems necessary to burden others with them.

she does not move away from sonia's touch, but she does not seek comfort in it either.

and so instead, she refocuses on the matter at hand. ]

Giovanni... [ olivia's tone indicates she knows full well who sonia is referring to. after a moment, she nods. ] That would be a good arrangement.

[ good for him, more than the other, she thinks. but she doesn't voice that part quite yet. ]

[assent]

[ Though her expression doesn't change, Sonia does watch Olivia's reactions carefully. She notes how she does actually focus more on Sonia's story rather than her own. For now she'll let her go with it, but this isn't forgotten. That's for sure. ]

That is what I thought as well. We have not spoken as much as I would like, but I think we get along well enough.

[ A beat, then: ] That does not help us with your cover story, however.

[winces]

[ she shrugs after a moment, leaning back slightly. ]

I am no stranger to disappearing out of people's peripherals, [ she reasons. ] I will just find something that leaves me unnoticed.

[assent]

It is not you keeping on the low that worries me. We should not be alone in this. A parent situation may not work here, but is there anyone who may work as a brother or sister? Just so you are not alone.

[winces]

I suppose I can think of a brother... [ sigma comes to mind. he does not look like her at all, but in terms of familial feelings... it would not be hard to fake those for him. ]

But I imagine he would wish to stay with his girlfriend.
