[OPEN] TGIF

CHARACTERS: Kagari, Maya, Oliver, and ANYONE ELSE
DATE: 19th May
WARNINGS: Possibly none. Will edit to add if necessary.
SUMMARY: Team Audentes needs a chance to unwind. Baseball, movies, and party games seem like the ideal solution.

Baseball: Training Room (Afternoon)

Peter Parker’s been kind enough to share the set of baseball equipment he’s gotten as a present for Oska. Currently, the training room resembles a massive field -- big enough for Audentes to comfortably play.

Maya, complete with coach outfit, blows her whistle at anyone in ear range to get started, and naturally, participants are more than welcome to form makeshift teams and compete, or just play one on one or throw the ball around. The more the merrier, right? Maya herself will be tagging people in and out so everyone has a chance to play, and encourages people to try it out if they haven’t already. The fake sky’s the limit!

Movies/Games: Rec Room (Evening)

There's a couple of hours between baseball ending and the official start time of the more relaxed set of activities. It allows chance to set up and for those who've been playing to freshen up. Of course anyone who wants to is welcome to show up early, especially if they're willing to help out with getting everything ready!

By the time it starts the majority of couches and chairs have been shifted to be either around Oliver's Xbox or the Magitek streaming movies, and a table next to the bar has been set up with a buffet. No one is monitoring the bar so everyone is free to grab what they like, but it will pull its usual trick of turning alcohol to juice should anyone 17 or under try.

Movies and games are taking place on opposite sides of the room so no one steps on each other's turf, but the open layout means anyone can choose whether they want to watch a movie or play a game at any time.

The evening kicks off with a showing of Steel Samurai, followed by a series of action and slapstick movies.

On the other side of the room Quiplash is underway. Oliver is happy to show any newcomers how to connect their Magitek so they can type in their answers or vote. Each round is short, and while participation isn't required it is encouraged for at least one round for anyone who takes part in voting.

i. u don't say fore in baseball

[Kagari doesn't exactly get to play a lot of sports out of VR video games and the like, but he's not completely unfamiliar with the concept of baseball, and he picks it up pretty quickly. He's a decent pitcher and outfielder, but where he really shines is up at bat. Years of video games along with two years out on the field using the Dominator also means he's got hand-eye coordination like nobody's business, and the ball always flies out far enough that he's at least a couple bases in, if not through a full home run, by the time the ball is dead.

Of course, virtual reality physics aren't always 100% predictable, and one time, the ball flies off in an unintended direction when he hits it. It's an out, for sure, but it's also definitely about to slam right into someone.]

--Hey, heads up!!

ii. snacks

[Kagari promised to bring snacks for game/movie night, and snacks he has brought. Generally...Japanese snacks, since that's all he really knows, but they certainly look appetizing.

Maybe you'd care to be adventurous with the onigiri or the strawberry daifuku...? Or stick to something simpler, like pocky. Either way, if he sees you trying something he personally made, he'll probably make a point to ask you sometime during the evening how you liked it--other people enjoying his food is more or less his favorite part of making it, after all.]

iii. movies & games

[Or perhaps you ran into Kagari is his natural environment instead, in the land of movies and video games. Notably, he cheers every time there's a big explosion, especially if it comes as a result of some other manner of flashy and violent destruction like a car smashing through a window and then flipping over three times. The more gratuitous the better, with this one.

On the flip side of the coin, he's definitely not taking them particularly seriously, either. On one particularly cheesy B-horror type movie, he suggests taking bets on which of the foolish teenagers is going to get grabbed by the monster first, and other times he partakes in drinking games of how many times overused tropes happen.

Quiplash is especially fun for him, what with the objective to be as irreverently funny as possible. On rounds that he doesn't score a point, he might grin cheekily and sigh--]

Gosh, you guys have no sense of art.

baseball - take me out to the ball~game;
[Maya blows the whistle Peter Parker (1) made the deadly mistake of giving her, wearing her cute couch outfit]

C'mon, batter, batter! Catch that ball! Let's go!

[She clearly has no idea what she's doing. But she's blowing her whistle at you, so have fun]

Bench time is over, up up up!

[apparently sitting it out isn't an option here.]
steel samurai - jaws theme plays;
[i. So, you're minding your own business, trying to get snacks, or doing anything but watch the Steel (just watch everything before the anime opening) Samurai]

[Yeah, sorry, that's not gonna work out for you]

Turn on your Tekflex! We're syncing up! [this is going to be her new catchphrase smh]

[ii. Or -- you're watching the show already, either from her bullying or curiosity. Regardless, she's right there with you. Watching, shovelling popcorn into her mouth-- calling out the attacks even though she's undoubtedly seen this multiple times]

Samurai Slap!

[She's so animated in her watching that she actually hits you in the face. Sorry, friend]
twitlash - closed to peter;
[Okay, she's got the app going on her Teklex. She's looking at it, she's looking at Peter, she's looking at it]

[A long beat]

Um, how do I play this, again?

[good luck, Pete]
wildcard;
[she's all over the place, so come at me bro. Or: comment for a custom prompt]

take me out to the ballgame
a. ) Peter had never been one for baseball before his time in Audentes, he can remember being a fan of the Yankees because Of Course He Was but other than that, his interest in baseball was limited at best. thanks to a certain someone, though, he's grown a large amount of fondness for the game. Maya desperately believes that he'll be a star pitcher one day, and that's probably not true, but thanks to spider-senses, he is actually pretty good at it.

He'll chat with teammates when he's on the bench, shake hands with the opposing team after a strike out, and during the intermission he practices his hits with his coach. Of course he spent some of the game with his coach, let's be real. Overall Peter doesn't do much beyond play the game, but there's a few times when he catches a ball that a normal human probably wouldn't have been able to reach, and so maybe he once hit a ball so hard nobody could find it.

But other than that, he's a perfectly normal player. Thanks for asking.

b. ) Graham is a much more sedate player. He has never played baseball before, and the huntsman seems to have a strange sort of enjoyment in trying new things, even if ultimately he doesn't like them much. Graham refuses the uniform, though he does take off his vest and leather jacket for the game. he's much better at bat than he is in-field, though if he manages to catch a ball he's eerily accurate when he throws it. He gets quite a few surprising outs that way.

The end of the second inning is crashed when a wolf catches a foul ball and refuses to give it back. Poor Brother just wanted to be included. To make up for it, Graham is seen playing catch with him during the intermission, and then the two of them laze in the computer generated grass for a breather before the game starts up again.

steel my heart samurai
a. ) If Peter is perfectly honest, his favorite part of the viewing party is not Steel Samurai — nobody tell Maya — but the range of snacks on display. His appetite has been limited lately, and honestly bingeing on a bunch of meatless junk food isn't much better, but at least he's eating something. Eating a lot, actually, but shh. He's half spider, he has a big appetite.

Otherwise, when he's not munching, he is watching whatever is playing with intent interest, though he'll whisper commentary to whoever is next to him at the time if they'll whisper back. Let's be real, it's usually Maya. Who else would it be?

b. ) Graham is a far better behaved movie viewer. He doesn't come alone, he has a softly snoring wolf he's using as a pillow as he silently observes, unbelievably intent on the display. It's only after it's over that he shares his thoughts, and you'd better believe he has some. He's possibly a little too thoughtful and intelligent about a children's show called Steel Samurai, but if you're close enough to him he'll definitely offer his thoughts and ideas on the plot. Don't you worry.
