CHARACTERS: olivia, papyrus, sans
DATE: December 30th
WARNINGS: this is gonna be cute as hell
SUMMARY: two skeletons and a dancer walk into an inn. the first skeleton yawns, and the dancer asks if he's sleepy. the second skeleton says "he's bone tired." the first skeleton screams.
[So after Olivia and Sans had met up to write this thing, as they'd agreed on, it was finally time for them to see if their story meets the approval of their intended audience. Sans meets Olivia outside the inn and brings her in himself, hoping it'll at least keep the goblins from side eying her too much, and leads her to the room the pair of them are staying in.]
Yo, Papyrus; Olivia's here. Time for that story we promised you, bud.

I hope now's a good time, [ she announces, glancing about for the other skeleton. ]

[But he was... doing things!! He told a goblin he would go grocery shopping with them. And also he wanted to clean the bathroom a little. And also he was sort of working on an idea for a puzzle, and not only that but he still hadn't done the proper research for that curry recipe...
But they did make a promise. And Sans actually seemed excited about this. ]
Oh, yes, it is a fine time! I was just...
[DOING THINGS. But he literally never stops doing things so. Now's a good a time as any. ]
Making the bed!
[You know, because you make the bed before you sleep in it??? Either way, he hops onto the bed, and starts to get comfortable. As much as one can, still wearing that big bulbous body armor he refuses to take off........ ever......... also with his shoes still on..........]
I'm ready!!

Don't start worrying, okay? He probably has things he wanted to do, but...they'll still be there when he wakes up. Not like it's the end of the world.
[You'd think that's something he'd whisper, but...no. Normal speaking voice volume, Papyrus can probably hear everything.
But no time to dwell on it, because Sans walks over to sit on the bed beside Papyrus' own one...that is to say, the one that isn't made and just looks like whoever got out of it last just left it as it was. The sheets and cover are all bundled up, and there's a missing pillow (it's on the floor). Despite that, he pats the mattress on the spot beside him, holding up some pages with his other hand.]
I got the story right here.

without further prompting, she takes the seat offered to her, shifting just once to get comfortable. her hands fold over her lap, and she's smiling brightly at papyrus before catching sans' eyes. ]
Ready?
[ it's not really clear who she's speaking to... ]
no subject
Papyrus shimmies himself a little further under his blanket. ]
Ready!!
[ Well, he'll assume that was pointed at him. ]
no subject
[Well, whoever it was, it doesn't matter now. Sans looks to his notes and starts reading.]
A really long time ago, two races lived together peacefully; humans and goblins.
But one day, war broke out between the two races. After a long battle, the humans were victorious, and cast all of the goblins to the other side of the world, forbidden from ever setting foot into the human kingdom again.
[You're up, Olivia.]

The goblins were heartbroken, and furious. [ her tone was quiet and somber, perfectly fitting for the current atmosphere of the story. she doesn't glance at the papers once, keeping her focus on papyrus himself, brows furrowed just slightly to convey the right amount of concern. ]
Many of their number vowed revenge, and for years, some of them have been working towards that, strengthening and pooling their weakened powers in the hopes that one day they can reclaim the land for their own.
But there was one goblin that longed to enter the human kingdom for a reason other than rage and revenge...
[ here, olivia's tone lightens, a small smile curving along her lips. ]
His name was Coatrack, and that reason was love.
no subject
Coatrack??
[ But that was... Ah, he sees what she's doing now!! Very clever!! Papyrus otherwise settles down, trying to not interrupt too much. ]
no subject
That said, on with the show, right?]
That's right...the war resulted from LOVE, but this unlikely pair were brought together by love. [Does that make sense? ...probably not.] Because coatrack had a fateful encounter with a human. A human woman by the name of Olivia, known far and wide as the greatest dancer in all the kingdom. Anything but humble, she was a confident, determined woman who'd disappointed quite the number of suitors...no one person could quite meet all of her standards.
One day, when she'd traveled to the edge of the kingdom to practice her dancing in solitude, she heard a noise in the distance. People weren't very common this far out, so she decided it best to investigate it herself, in the event it was someone - or maybe even something - dangerous.
[And...yes, he's seriously doing this]
"Is somebody there?" She called out.

[ oh, she was getting into it now. building up the suspense in both her tone and her words, never once glancing away form papyrus' eyes. if she's at all surprised by the sudden high pitch of sans' voice, she doesn't seem to show it. ]
Closer and closer towards the bushes she went, but every time she called out, no one or nothing would answer back. She was starting to wonder if maybe she'd just imagined it all, or misheard a distant birdcall.
But just as she was about to turn away, a shadow suddenly pops up out of the shrub!
"W-Wait!" the figure cried out. [ here, her voice pitches down to a gravel-bass octave. ] "Don't go — Don't be scared!"
It was a goblin! The first goblin Olivia had ever seen in her life!

After all, Goblins and Humans were never meant to live alongside each other - or at least, that's what everyone had told her, and even though she had always taken those words to heart, she was a curious woman. Meeting someone unlike anyone she ever had before was too tempting, and while her hand had moved to the hilt of the sword at her waist, she hadn't pulled it on this strange new creature yet - and she had no intention of doing it either, unless it proved it was up to no good.
With some amount of caution, she stood her ground and answered.
"What do you want?"
no subject
What did he want??
no subject
But what could he say that would not scare her away? He may be young, but everyone knew about the conflict between their kind. He knew what she would use that sword for, if he gave her a reason to.
"To see you dance," he finally responded. In the end, he decided to go with the truth. He heard stories of her, and had longed to be able to witness it with his own two eyes. Now that he was here, he didn't want to let this chance go.
"I'd never seen anything so beautiful."
