OPEN PLOT LOG ★ THE CULT [LEFT BEHIND]

[closed] INTO THE WOODS.

At Ramir's request, Hellboy has accompanied her into the jungle, looking for clues as to this rising cult of Ryba. It's dangerous stuff, cults, particularly when those cults have a penchant for sacrificial mutilation: missing villagers can only spell disaster for the recruits themselves down the line, so it's best to nip this in the bud as quickly as possible.

Hellboy is worried about the missing half of their team, but until the storm dies down, there seems to be no better way to pass the time than walking around in creepy jungles looking for possible cannibals.

THE RESCUE.

After Hellboy's warning and the necessary preparations, it's time to rescue King and Ramir -- and as many captured Nalawi as you can. The camp is by one of the largest estuaries on Pu'ulai, camouflaged by native flora and hidden in the shadow of the volcano Nalalona. The cultists have removed King and Ramir's magitek jewellery, but the tracking beacons are still active, making it easier to find them than without.

The well-hidden camp is creepy, filled with ramshackle tents and poorly-made effigies. There's a pool in the middle of it all, filled with brackish, murky water. Ramir, King, and a small number of terrified-looking Nalawi are all bound, kept on the far side of the camp.

The cultists are all dressed in hooded black robes, doe and stag alike. They are all without their Gifts, but that does nothing to temper their ferocity at intruders into their camp. Despite their diminutive size, they know the forests better than any ALASTAIR recruit, and are suited to blitz attacks on any would-be rescuers; they may pop out of the underbrush in small, seemingly endless waves. They also have sharp hooves and the stags' horns are dangerous, capable of goring anyone who doesn't get out of the way of a charge.

The cult is surprisingly large, so it may take some time to defeat them all. Whether you want to spare them or destroy them is up to you -- but it's clear that the cult has no plans for mercy whatsoever.

EXPLORATION.

Now that the cultists have been dispatched (one way or another), the camp is free to explore.

If any cultists are captured for questioning, they'll speak in gibberish and violently lash out at anyone who comes too close. The only thing they'll say that makes any sense is that Ryba is hungry -- Ryba the devouring one has eaten all the lesser gods in the world long ago, and now she needs more.

All around the camp are various effigies (poorly crafted from dried kelp), shark's teeth, and other junk of the sea. There are tents scattered around that may be explored; they are filled with mundane paraphernalia such as books, combs, and other trinkets of sentimental value. If one didn't look at the horrors outside the tents, it might be confused for a refugee camp.

The pool in the middle of the camp is filled with black water and disembodied Nalawi eyes, its concentrated magical energy more potent than even the water out in the ocean. There is a single doe in it, floating face down, the latest sacrifice before the cultists were interrupted; not dressed in their black robes, she is one of the missing villagers who was not so lucky. If she is turned over, it can be seen that her eyes have been gouged out.

The surviving kidnapped villagers are badly shaken up but have no answers as to what happened other than they were captured by what they refer to as a "death cult." Apart from some slight hunger and dehydration, none of them are injured. They're just glad to be alive, and ask to be escorted back to the Pu'ulai temple.

[UGH, why does everyone have to keep making this so complicated! Law is very clearly not in the mood for compromise re: deer murder.]
What the hell do you mean, of course we're killing them. We leave them alive and they'll just come back to try and kill us again! Is that what you want!?

[He stumbles slightly when she pulls on his arm, but otherwise isn't making a move either way.]
heavyhitter: (we'll finish what we started)

[personal profile] heavyhitter 2016-05-30 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She rolls her eyes, and tries really, really hard not to look at the monstrosities over there. God, that's creepy. ]

No, they won't. They're scared, desperate assholes who think they're doing good. You've now officially scared the shit outta them, they're gonna run off and not come back. [ She shifts her grip a little, the better to get an angle for a good, sharp twist on his arm. ] If you fix them.
kikoku: (fuck that)

[personal profile] kikoku 2016-06-01 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Law actually groans audibly. Stupid morals and common decency, always making his job difficult. After a few seconds pause, he does raise his hand again, making a few gestures that throw up that hazy blue dome again around the Nalawi before they're suddenly back in order as he mutter 'shambles' to himself.]

There, happy?
[And true to Ramir's prediction, the two cultist stare wide eyed at Law for about three seconds before he glares at them, raising his hand in threat. It's all they need to see before bolting back into the woods.]
heavyhitter: i'll make a lie out of truth (leave it up to me)

[personal profile] heavyhitter 2016-06-02 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
[ She is happy, actually. She hadn't been too worried about it, she has a lot of faith in her ability to get people to do stuff. But it's nice when the plan comes through.

She nods, happy to get back to being exhausted, with that little detail take care of.
]

Yeah, happy. [ Her firm stance eases into a slouch. ] Alright, lead the way.
kikoku: (sit down bitch let me tell you a thing)

[personal profile] kikoku 2016-06-07 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Law exhales sharply, but doesn't complain further. Instead yeah, lets get back to what we were doing. He glances down at Ramir's feet.]

I'm not sure if you should be walking, though. How bad are your injuries?
[Since you won't let him look at them here, god.]
heavyhitter: (forgot to say out loud)

[personal profile] heavyhitter 2016-06-07 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, I can walk.

[ She rolls her eyes as she says it; come on, like she wasn't dashing all over the place on these painful feet earlier. That obviously means everything is fine.

...On the other hand, she wouldn't say not to lessening the weight on them a little. She gestures him nearer with a c'mere motion of her hand.
]

But gimme a shoulder or something, and I'll walk faster.
kikoku: (listen up fuckwads)

[personal profile] kikoku 2016-06-10 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Law wordlessly assents, hoisting as much of Ramir's weight onto his shoulder as he can get away with. Away they go.]

How long have your feet been injured like that?
[Might as well get all the doctorly questioning out of the way as they move.]
heavyhitter: you traded me away long gone (with a shower of yeahs and whatevers)

[personal profile] heavyhitter 2016-06-10 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Alright, fine, she'll answer questions. As long as she keeps an eye out for any more cultists, because that's still what's important here. ]

Since the volcano bullshit. [ How long ago was that? Was he even there for that? She can't remember either answer, and squints a little. ] Like a week ago?

[ She'd been doing pretty good, too. Wrapped them up and took it easy and everything. But who knew, a dash through a jungle at night wasn't good for trying to heal bottom-of-feet wounds. ]
kikoku: ([barks softly in distress])

[personal profile] kikoku 2016-06-11 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Law immediately grimaces.]

Were they ever properly bandaged or was your first thought to wrap them sloppily in what I'm guessing is T-shirt fabric?
[He sounds so offended. How dare you forgot proper medical procedure.]

I cannot be the only one here capable of providing proper first aid. What have you been doing for an entire week?
heavyhitter: where she stops nobody knows (wind me up and watch me go)

[personal profile] heavyhitter 2016-06-11 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She sees your offense, sir, and ups you amped up irreverence, complete with a long suffering sigh. ]

I've been busy. You know, looking for missing friends and shit? And it's not that bad, I've had worse. [ Just not... on what has proven to be as vital an area as the bottoms of her feet. Who knew injuries there were so uniquely annoying. ]
kikoku: (how dare you)

[personal profile] kikoku 2016-06-12 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
You realize if the infection gets bad enough, your feet would have to be amputated. And if left alone long enough, the infection could and would spread further. Thinking like that is what gets people like you killed from entirely treatable injuries.
[This is one irritable, pessimistic doctor right here. But hey, at least now they're out of the woods. Law literally shoves Ramir off his shoulder so that she'll have no choice but to plant her ass in the sand next to the river.]

And I'm assuming your missing friends wouldn't appreciate it if they returned only to find you gone or severely incapacitated.

heavyhitter: (now look at me in all my glory)

[personal profile] heavyhitter 2016-06-12 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She makes a face. She wants to contest it, but... god, he's right. This was kind of stupid. She does indeed plant her butt, on the first available comfortable stone, and lifts one leg to brace her ankle against the opposite knee. It's gonna be an awkward angle no matter what she does, but she can at least be the one to pick said awkward angle. ]

Sure, but that's what I've got you for, right? [ Her smile isn't any kind of genuine. ] Quick, save my feet.
kikoku: (listen up fuckwads)

[personal profile] kikoku 2016-06-14 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, Law knows all about non-genuine smiles. But the first thing he does is start to peel away the dirty fabric from that foot, because seriously why.]

I'll do what I can with the supplies we have, which isn't much.
[Right now, he just wants to see what he's working with. Even if they were wrapped tightly, walking around on them for weeks can't have helped.]

I'm a doctor, not a miracle worker.
heavyhitter: just to make a point i can't prove (shoot myself in the foot)

[personal profile] heavyhitter 2016-06-15 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ There is, at least, some good news, that being that she's not completely an idiot when it comes to first aid. The complicated stuff is beyond her, she's not even sure she could suture anything with the right supplies, but she's gotten by for a few years getting hurt and not dying afterward. So, while her feet aren't in great shape — they'd been ripped up pretty thoroughly by a top-speed dash over sharp volcanic rock, given a week of light use to heal, and then ripped up anew by a run through jungle — it could be worse.

She's also sick of looking at then. So she sighs, head turned pointedly away.
] That's a shame, I could really use a miracle.
kikoku: (temperature: cold as Law's black heart)

[personal profile] kikoku 2016-06-15 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Law sighs as well, for his own reasons. Mainly just his pervasive tiredness as of late. But he starts getting to work, pulling out a rag and dipping it in the river. He can use his ability to filter out the impurities, something he does by making some sort of yanking gesture with his free hand once that blue dome appears again around the cloth. Once it's done, he gets to work cleaning up the injuries.]

I'd say that I'd be able to remove any infection manually, but with the way my powers are being dampened, it'd have to wait until we get out of this place.
[Frowning, but then looking up at Ramir]

Though it isn't as bad as I expected.
heavyhitter: (what part of party don't you understand)

[personal profile] heavyhitter 2016-06-16 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, because I don't suck at this.

[ That's a lie, she's actually really relieved to hear that. It would really, really suck if she'd irreparably damaged something. She rubs a hand over her face, sick to death of jungles and everything that goes with them. ]

Well, guess they better hold up a little longer, I got more walking to do on them.
kikoku: (I have some regrets)

[personal profile] kikoku 2016-06-18 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Law pauses a moment to frown up at her, damp rag still in his hand.]

Absolutely not.
[And he returns to his task, finishing up before pulling a sealed package of gauze from inside his coat.]

There's plenty of us here, you don't have to be running around trying to figure out how to.... what was it, build a boat?
