EVENT ★ I PREDICT A RIOT

I WANNA START A FIGHT

RIOTS

In the time between the quarantine and now, the virus has spread unnaturally rapidly, with the amount of the population infected estimated to be around 1.5% or approximately 3,750 people. Understandably, the panic has increased considerably. People who were taking the virus seriously before have begun to work themselves up into a frenzy, and even those who were calm are beginning to get anxious.

An infected teacher went on a violent rampage at the local elementary school yesterday, leading the school board to close all Woodhurst schools for the rest of the week while the entire staff is studied for symptoms. There’s no test for the Bristol virus, however, so it’s impossible to tell for sure. This, of course, worries the parents. The unrest starts with a protest at the school, calling for schools to be closed indefinitely until the quarantine is over for the safety of the children, but it doesn’t stop there.

Unrest turns to rioting before long; the majority of the riot is focused at city hall, where citizens are demanding answers, but there’s also mayhem at stores as the people of Woodhurst loot them, stocking up for what some assume is an impending apocalypse. Those who don’t believe this have locked themselves up in their homes not for protection from the infected but the rioters. Suffice it to say, most of the citizens out on the streets are of the slightly unstable variety, although some just found themselves caught up in the riots and became worked up by the crowd.

Local police forces -- including ALASTAIR agents posing as police officers -- have been dispatched to deal with the rioters at city hall. Rioters who attempt to leave the city are taken care of by officers sent by the federal government to enforce the quarantine.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

It might be a good idea to see what supplies can be found at the supermarkets, although you run the risk of getting attacked by a violent looter. The police won’t necessarily turn away anyone trying to keep order at city hall, but any supernatural powers will only incite the already violent crowd, so it’s recommended characters keep from utilizing their powers if they want to stay in one piece. Then, of course, there’s always the option to protect innocents who happen to be stuck out on the streets in the middle of the riots.

While the entirety of the police force is focused at the quarantine borders and outside city hall, now is possibly one of the only chances to get full access to buildings in the city. There are still some workers who haven’t been sent home and some of the buildings are locked up, but there are few police officers that can be spared to go check out a simple break-in.

Now is the time to search the city, if you're feeling brave. If you’re really ballsy, you can even try to slip in through the back door of city hall and go through their records. The only important building in town that’s not able to be searched is the hospital, which is incredibly busy due to the high number of people injured in the riots and traffic accidents.

Of course, just because rioters aren’t around doesn’t mean you’ll be left alone. There’s always a chance you’ll find yourself alone in a building with someone very hungry. Willing to take the chance?

OOC NOTES

The Bounty Board is now open! If you are looking for ways to get involved in this mission's optional objective, this is a good place to start. We’d also like to remind everyone that ALASTAIR does not invent cover stories for characters -- that’s all them! The only jobs they’ll help with getting are in the police force and government; everything else is up to characters to interview for.

Questions about Woodhurst can be submitted to this thread. Questions about the game in general should be directed to the FAQ. You may submit mission ideas or player plots at any time.

[ sure, he's used to Peter suddenly coming up with the weirdest reasons to exit the room, and after the first few times when he finally puts two and two together... well. it's never something he can think of how to address, or even summon up the courage to, given how neither of them have really talked about what this thing between them is, in the first place.

now, though? he's not sure if it's the lingering confidence from the so-far successful infiltration-and-takeover of the shop, or the fact that Peter's exit happens not after twenty minutes of kissing each other until it feels like all the air in the room has disappeared, but rather a comment that's fairly light, all things considered...

still. he grins and shrugs.
] I am using them for good, obviously.

[ obviously.

turns out Peter didn't make it too far, after all, and so it's fairly easy for him to cross the distance, even as he rolls his eyes at the remark about being cute, though he's still smiling so good job, maybe the flirting is working, after all... as evidences with the way he stops next to Peter, lets the shield drop with an exhale as he leans to give Peter a kiss t the cheek. see, he does have some mercy, after all...
]

One day you'll stop thinking that's funny. [ said with the kind of exasperated tone that falls closer to stupidly fond. ] The plan's this. I messaged some people I saw in the crowd, they're gonna bring people in. Get the civilians, make sure they get here safe. We need to make sure they stay here safe. Someone's gotta do that, too.

We need to have a talk about what qualifies as good. ( forcing an embarrassed not-boyfriend to stay in the room with you probably isn't evil... it's just calling it good that is a bit of a stretch. in the end he knows the block was fleeting at best, if he'd asked Stiles would have listened. it's the first time he's ever been stalled out in his rampant escape when things get to be a little much, and it doesn't feel as uncomfortable as he might have expected. which could indicate he was running away from a whole lot of nothing, but Peter is not quite ready to entertain that theory yet.

he exhales a breath, and his shoulders relax a little at the kiss he didn't need yet surely won't argue with, either. it didn't take much to make him a little less flighty, it seems... though if Stiles wanted to take the opportunity to hit on him again, we'd see just how long it lasted. it was something new in the nameless altercation they were involved in. maybe he'd bolt the next time it happened, too, or maybe he'd be more prepared now that he was aware he should expect it.

seriously, though, Stiles... be impressed by something actually impressive next time.
)

Hate to break it to you, but that seems unlikely. ( Mental Fortifications Man would always be pretty hilarious, Peter sincerely doubts there will be a day that isn't the case. and while Stiles doesn't take it seriously, a part of Peter does. he's coming into powers of his own, and that deserved some recognition... even if it was a little goofy. his expression colors a little at the suggestion that someone was going to have to stay put. yes, objectively it made sense... he just didn't like sitting still, ultimately. it was never going to be something he was good at, more than likely. ) You want me to stay here?

Can't see why.

[ okay, look, maybe his idea of "good" is entirely dependent on the result rather than the action... but still. in this case, it worked — Peter's still here, and whatever embarrassment got to him seems to have dissipated, at least enough so that he's forming words normally and all that.

(which, when he thinks of it, is kind of a shame... the stumbling was cute.)

Peter's in luck, though, as bringing up the topic of what they should be doing is enough to get him to switch back to serious mode. he can hear the quiet objection in Peter's voice, displeased with the idea of staying still... luckily, he's got good news on that front. with the shake of his head, he responds,
]

No. I want you to go out there, and make sure that when the people are brought in, no one else tries to come along. I can block the door from here, but if any of the rioters try to follow... I can't do anything about them. [ it's the plan that makes the most sense, even though a part of him hates it, sending Peter out into the riot while staying inside himself. it makes the most sense. he's just got to deal with it. ]

( Stiles you are clearly a super-villain in the making if you think that was using your powers for good, and that Peter not being an embarrassed disaster is a shame. with great ability to turn your not-boyfriend into a stumbling, stuttering mess, comes great responsibility. to not do that intentionally, obviously.

it's true, he doesn't like the idea of sitting still. it's... weird, though, because it turns out? ultimately, he doesn't really like the idea of leaving Stiles behind, either. there's a half heartbeat as he falls silent, wanting to argue and knowing he shouldn't. it makes the most sense for them to split up, even if he finds he really doesn't like the idea. Stiles is well suited to protecting a single location, and Peter is well suited to getting back on the street to see where he could be helpful.

it just means not being together if things get bad, something that seems all too possible with things the way they are now.

finally, he nods, though the worry is obvious on his face despite himself.
) Yeah, I guess that makes sense. We'll do more good if we split up. ( there's a slightly careful touch to the side of Stiles' neck, like Peter is debating saying something more, and ultimately doesn't let himself. ) I'll see if I can find anyone else that needs shelter and I'll be back when I do. You know how to catch me if you need me. ( and this time it's Peter to close the distance for a kiss — one last one, and a little less lighthearted than the first.

still worth giving, though.
)

[ perhaps that is the kind of super-villain path he is willing to walk down on... it's really not his fault if his not-boyfriend is very adorable when a flustered, stuttering mess!

the whole plan is one big catch-22 — he likes the idea of splitting up just as little as Peter does, but in the end, it's the one thing that makes sense. it's selfish, the desire to stay together, and they just can't afford that right now.
]

It's the best plan we've got right now. [ the worry is echoed in his expression, the tightness around his eyes. maybe it's stupid, to worry about Peter, especially knowing how much less likely he is to get hurt in the midst of the riots than most others, but he's never been very logical when it comes to worrying for those he cares about.

the touch against the side of his neck is enough to quell the worst of the bubbling anxiety, though, and Stiles nods.
] ... yeah. I know. [ though considering that he was about to break in here without calling for backup, the chances that he'll contact Peter for something happening on his end are rather small.

still — perhaps the knowledge that they'll be able to contact each other easily if there's need for it is enough. and while Peter is the one to lean in first, Stiles meets him halfway, his palm pressed against Peter's neck to keep him there just a heartbeat longer, to say everything he isn't putting to words with the kiss. (be careful, don't be reckless, remember you're not invincible. maybe something else.)

in the end, though, all he does say when he pulls back is,
] Good luck.

( it is stupid to worry about him, Stilinski. he's basically a rubber band, flinging in and out and maybe wearing a little thin on occasion, but always snapping back into place sooner rather than later. he's unbelievably well equipped for running into madness and coming out of it relatively unscathed. still, Stiles wouldn't be the first to worry about the person behind the mask when Spider-Man hit the streets. Peter doesn't like that quiet shadow of concern, even unspoken, and makes a silent vow to make sure he comes back in one piece to see it fade.

not that he wouldn't have, Peter doesn't have a death wish. still, making sure that worry doesn't linger is good incentive, and a reminder that it matters to someone what happens to him. Peter's lost enough people to know the consequences on the person left behind, and he won't do that to Stiles.

Stiles isn't the only one trying to send a message, even in a few heartbreaking seconds. don't do anything stupid, don't forget you're worth protecting too, please be here when I get back. Peter says it in the way his fingers run a quiet path to Stiles' and when he doesn't pull back, so much as their lips part and he presses their foreheads together. his eyes are closed, and that's probably for the best.

what they'd say if they were open is probably too much for either of them.
)

You too, Mental Fortifications Man. ( his eyes open and they are a shade far more grim than the crooked, empty smile Peter wears to try and make the moment seem a little more heavy. Peter takes a step back, and then a step away. he can't let himself look back as he heads for the door, because he's not sure he'll manage to actually leave if he does. )
