EVENT ★ THE SICK AND THE DEAD
THE LAST HURRAH ![]() STATE OF WOODHURST ![]() The city is in a state of panic, and the military has been given permission to use lethal force if necessary to stop people from leaving quarantine; keeping the virus contained is the number one priority of the federal government. As for the local government, all non-essential persons have been given leave until further notice for their own safety. The police department is still running, but they're in a constant war against the infected, forced to retaliate fatally more and more each day. They have no time to focus on any other crimes. Some citizens would be thankful if Audentes ran some "errands" for them — attempting to loot what's left of the stores, for example — or accompanied them outside as protection. Many people have family to see, some of them on the other side of the city, but it's nearly impossible to get there without a bodyguard of some sort. Someone could possibly make some cash this way, but there's something more important to do. MEANWHILE . . . ![]() Administering the vaccine is risky, as it requires escorting people to the hospital without getting killed, as well as hoping the infected constantly wandering into the hospital have been taken care of. Administering the cure is even more so; it's highly recommended that the infected be unconscious before being given the cure. Even Bristol sufferers have to sleep! If not asleep, knocked out or otherwise sedated will do. It is absolutely not recommended for anyone to go at an angry infected with a syringe, but it's not like anyone's going to stop you... except maybe the infected. Escorts and security guards are necessary at the hospital. The police department has offered their services, with their main priority being the vaccine. Until everyone is vaccinated, the city can't afford to think of a way to safely administer a cure to the infected population, so anyone interested will have to do it themselves. Stock up on syringes at the hospital and get going! DR. PERCY ![]() But once he is found, tucked away in a wide cavern . . . It seems he's preparing a hasty exit, with almost everything packed up and his human disguise dropped. Without it, he appears to be an alien of some sort, but not one that Audentes has run into yet. His skin is amber, smooth, and slimy. He has several pairs of wide-set eyes of different sizes, but no nose. His mouth extends far across his face, and below it is a wattle, not unlike that of a turkey. Peeling off him at all times are scales; apparently, he's shedding more than just his disguise. He's completely alone, without another Zymandis agent in sight, and not a particularly good fighter. Subduing or killing him would be easy, especially when it's several against one. When first encountered, he says nothing if spoken to, and only attempts to run. If attacked, he will summon several robot bodyguards -- seven-foot-tall bipedal constructs who only listen to Percy's commands, directed via remote control. They will fight to the death to protect their master, who will use the distraction to again try to run. It looks like the choices are clear: Audentes must choose whether to non-lethally subdue him or kill him. If subdued, what happens to him afterwards is still up in the air. Whatever your decision, it's highly likely you'll meet some resistance from the other members of the team, so get ready to argue. CYOA Each character will only be able to officially do one of the following choices.
You may of course thread out other options, but they will not count for the purposes of the pass/fail tally. Again, you may only officially choose one option per character. OOC NOTES Because this log is being posted late in the month, threads are eligible for March or April AC, but not both. Though the encounter with Percy will be a short one, the rest of this log will last two IC weeks. After that, characters will be immediately rifted away from Woodhurst without warning. THOSE WHO RECEIVE THE CURE: As the virus is not a degenerative disease, characters will suffer no lasting (physical) trauma caused by it. Side-effects from the cure may include nausea, weakness, vertigo, rash, brain fog, numbness of the face, insomnia, dizziness, fatigue, heart palpitations, or vomiting. This may last for anywhere up to four weeks. THOSE WHO RECEIVE THE VACCINE: Side-effects may include irritability and hunger for anywhere up to four weeks. Questions about Woodhurst can be submitted to this thread. Questions about the game in general should be directed to the FAQ. You may submit mission ideas or player plots at any time. All bounties listed with a 3/25 due date are now closed. There are two open bounties remaining on the Bounty Board, which will need to be turned in by the end of the mission on 8 April. ( 1 2 ) |

[Maya's team save the infected herself, but she knows them getting cornered and bitten won't help for much. These people need to be contained or sedated before the cure can be administered, and alas, that's not going to happen on the street with two noodles. She prepares to get her hug on (again), or even trigger her shield if it looks like things are getting too hairy for Mob -- but that's before the infected start freezing in place and she can only assume it's him]
[She doesn't know exactly how he managed to freeze those infected (maybe that's what he was talking about with his E.S.P, before...) but she's not about to question it. She takes off running and takes his hand to pull him with, heading in the direction he pointed out and doing her best to swerve out of reach of any appendages. But Shigeo's her real priority -- she's trying to protect him over herself. Even at the risk of herself, if it comes to that. Incredible spiritual power or not, he's still a kid]
--Right! I think it's time we blew this popsicle stand, as the people say!
no subject
[What popsicle stand?? Oh, no, that's a turn of phrase...right....and it's fitting, at any rate, considering the circumstances here. They're a noodly pair combining to create double the noodle here, but at least running doesn't have to involve punching or shoving anyone--and together, Maya and Mob both manage to burst out of the crowd of infected just barely, with a narrow swerve to avoid one last snatching hand before they're both beating a path down the sidewalk. As soon as the infected are behind their backs, Mob's freeze on them breaks yet again--but as it turns out, a pair of noodles are still a fair amount more sprightly than a shambling crowd of uncoordinated infected.
...For a little bit, anyway. There's a minute or so in which Mob is at equal footing and pace with Maya, fueled as much by adrenaline as anything else. But adrenaline only gets you so far--and Mob is still a lot more of a noodle than most of his peers. Initially they're running side by side, but as they sprint past a third block Mob begins to flag, and Maya might soon be inadvertently dragging him along by hand moreso than leading. Not for much longer either, by the looks of things...]
Ah--Maya-san, I--c-could we, slow down please? [Very out of breath already, but at least Mob still has enough air to gasp out that much--which is an improvement, actually! A few months ago he'd have been wheezing beyond repair, really, so this isn't half bad for him at all. Hopefully the infected haven't been able to follow them this far....but he really would like to catch his breath for at least a moment or so.]
no subject
[She tugs him into an another alley and it looks like the coast is clear... for the moment. She pauses to catch her breath, too. She can't fault him for being out of breath when his abilities are so awesome -- if only she could freeze people with psychic power, too. It'd make everything much easier.]
Whew.... those guys are pretty grabby. Are you okay?
[So, yeah, they can take a break, but---] Just for a minute. We should get somewhere safer. Maybe.... I can carry on you on my back?
[At least for a few minutes, she can probably manage that much. The priority here is him not getting hurt, especially with how new he is.... she can't do much, right now, but she can probably do that much.]
no subject
But...he's not. And it's going to take time, he knows. So, for now...Mob waits for his breathing to even out a bit, and then slowly starts straightening to look at Maya. Ah...it really is her. This really is that same person back in that kitchen in that castle. This is the first familiar face Mob has encountered since he first arrived in Woodhurst, and...it's nice. Reassuring, the way a lot of other things haven't been recently.
65%
There's a small delay before Maya's words sink in properly--especially her question, specifically, which does well to have Mob blinking back to the present with the surprise of it.]
Huh? I don't want to weigh you down, though... [Not that he's terribly heavy, honestly, but even still...shouldn't the guy be the one carrying the girl in a situation like this, anyway?? Not that Mob could with just his muscles, but...it's the principle of the thing......Mob mops at his forehead, slowly shaking his head.] I'll--be okay to go again in a bit. I'm just not very good at running, sorry...
[But, even more importantly than that--]
Did you just get here too, Maya-san?
no subject
Come on, think about how cool it'd look! You, riding on my back, freezing everyone up with your awesome psychic powers.... we'd be like a superhero duo!
[She's implying she wouldn't just collapse after two minutes. Alas, he isn't the only one here who isn't the pinnacle of strength and endurance -- most of the endurance she does possess is from meditating under freezing waterfalls, which doesn't exactly lend itself to zombie chase situations]
Anyway, don't worry about it. Running away from the walking jerks [with human meat cravings] isn't exactly your typical track and field exercise.
[She's been here longer than that -- long enough for the whole mission, actually. But she's relieved Mob missed the ugliest parts of it -- if this is when he showed up, like he seems to be implying. The entire thing was horrific. The less he saw of that, the better] Nah, I've been here since a bit before this mission started. You didn't miss too much, though.

People chasing you is really different from running for exercise, yes. I think I prefer the exercise. [More of a mumble, that, but it's true--at least the members of the Body Improvement Club were an encouraging bunch, despite their rigorous training routines. Can't really say the same for these infected people here...
But Maya's answer earns a slow blink, as Mob takes a second or so to try making sense of it. It sort of feels like he'd last met her only a few days before arriving here, really...? But surely this mission has been going on for a lot longer than that. .....Well, he doesn't know how any of that works, so he's not going to think about it. She doesn't seem to be lying, at least...] Okay. I guess that's good to hear...there seems to be. A lot happening. [He turns slightly, peering at the alley entrance.] You think there's a safe place near here...?
no subject
[But alas, she's already given up her dreams of coolness... a noble sacrifice she's made on Mob's behalf] Me, too. Let's stick to regular sports after this, okay? No more extreme zombie dodging.
[She goes ahead to peek out and check if the coast is clear --- and it's not. No one nearby, but there are some off in the distance. They probably shouldn't linger too much longer. She ducks back to return to Mob again]
Yeah. Turns out all these people are sick--- but we managed to get the cure. So, it's just about getting it to everyone, now.
[As for a safe place---] I think, if we get to the hospital, it'll be pretty safe there. That's where people are being cured, after all.
no subject
Although it looks like they're going to have to put that coolness aside after all, at least for now. Maybe someday in the future, when there isn't a threat of man-eating people afoot...for now, Mob just sighs a bit.]
I'm not very good at regular sports either...but at least they don't try to eat you in those, yes. [Usually. As far as he knows.
Mob trails after Maya as she moves forward, peering over her shoulder with her as she checks of the coast is clear. Which it isn't, by the looks of things...ah, these infected people really are all over the place. He refocuses on Maya as she speaks.] That's true, yes...that sounds like a good idea. Though, I don't know which way the hospital is from here...but do you? [Please be his Woodhurst-senpai in these trying times, Maya....he frowns back to the infected shambling some ways off.] I guess we should find a way to distract those guys over there too, before we get going...
no subject
I hope not. That's be a pretty weird basketball game. [Just saying. But there's always time to practice! But for now, they've got slightly more pressing matters on their hands. Slightly.]
Yep, it's over in that direction [She points north east-ish.... but just as Maya was a mall GPS, she can be a hospital GPS, too]
Right. If we make a break for it now, they'll just catch up to us... we'll have to think of something.
no subject
[Mob pauses, scanning up and down the street just a ways ahead now. He's not entirely sure what he's even looking for, honestly--but then he finds it anyway, in the form of a trash can standing on the curb. For a distraction...ah...
Mob points to the trash can.]
I know. Maybe I'll move that...over to where they're standing, over there? If it drops and makes a lot of noise, they might pay attention to it for a bit...
no subject
I'll do you one better--- why don't you throw it against a wall, over there? That's bound to attract 'em, they're not very clever.
And then, after that, we sneak off!
[Carrying him on her back is still on the table, by the way] That should give us a head start, at least. Can you use your powers while running?
