THE LAST HURRAH STATE OF WOODHURST Things are bad. There's more infected on the streets every day, ravenous since their would-be victims are all boarded up in their houses. Audentes members who are infected are likely feeling ravenous now, too, and some of them are far gone enough that they might need to be subdued. The city is in a state of panic, and the military has been given permission to use lethal force if necessary to stop people from leaving quarantine; keeping the virus contained is the number one priority of the federal government. As for the local government, all non-essential persons have been given leave until further notice for their own safety. The police department is still running, but they're in a constant war against the infected, forced to retaliate fatally more and more each day. They have no time to focus on any other crimes. Some citizens would be thankful if Audentes ran some "errands" for them — attempting to loot what's left of the stores, for example — or accompanied them outside as protection. Many people have family to see, some of them on the other side of the city, but it's nearly impossible to get there without a bodyguard of some sort. Someone could possibly make some cash this way, but there's something more important to do. MEANWHILE . . . The hospital, formerly chaotic, has devolved into outright bedlam. Theft and fights with the staff are increasingly common, and frenzied people are constantly demanding a cure the doctors don't have. Fortunately, it looks like Audentes does. Science-minded recruits have been hard at work creating a vaccine, which is widely available already, and a cure, which is rolling out slower. Administering the vaccine is risky, as it requires escorting people to the hospital without getting killed, as well as hoping the infected constantly wandering into the hospital have been taken care of. Administering the cure is even more so; it's highly recommended that the infected be unconscious before being given the cure. Even Bristol sufferers have to sleep! If not asleep, knocked out or otherwise sedated will do. It is absolutely not recommended for anyone to go at an angry infected with a syringe, but it's not like anyone's going to stop you... except maybe the infected. Escorts and security guards are necessary at the hospital. The police department has offered their services, with their main priority being the vaccine. Until everyone is vaccinated, the city can't afford to think of a way to safely administer a cure to the infected population, so anyone interested will have to do it themselves. Stock up on syringes at the hospital and get going! DR. PERCY For those more interested in seeking out the source of the virus rather than treating it, it's not difficult to surmise that "Doctor" Percy is hiding out in the sewers. Very deep in the sewers. He's apparently built a subterranean expansion: a series of winding, metallic tunnels with many forks and dead ends. Be careful when exploring, as you might run into one of Percy's robotic bodyguards before finding him. But once he is found, tucked away in a wide cavern . . . It seems he's preparing a hasty exit, with almost everything packed up and his human disguise dropped. Without it, he appears to be an alien of some sort, but not one that Audentes has run into yet. His skin is amber, smooth, and slimy. He has several pairs of wide-set eyes of different sizes, but no nose. His mouth extends far across his face, and below it is a wattle, not unlike that of a turkey. Peeling off him at all times are scales; apparently, he's shedding more than just his disguise. He's completely alone, without another Zymandis agent in sight, and not a particularly good fighter. Subduing or killing him would be easy, especially when it's several against one. When first encountered, he says nothing if spoken to, and only attempts to run. If attacked, he will summon several robot bodyguards -- seven-foot-tall bipedal constructs who only listen to Percy's commands, directed via remote control. They will fight to the death to protect their master, who will use the distraction to again try to run. It looks like the choices are clear: Audentes must choose whether to non-lethally subdue him or kill him. If subdued, what happens to him afterwards is still up in the air. Whatever your decision, it's highly likely you'll meet some resistance from the other members of the team, so get ready to argue. CYOA Each character will only be able to officially do one of the following choices. Confront Percy. Protect citizens. Spread the vaccine/cure. Other. For the sake of tallying, we ask that each individual character submit their choice separately rather than in a group. The Dr. Percy encounter will be open for 48 hours only, after which participants will receive the outcome, which will be based on their choices. The rest will be open for 7 days, will not receive a reply, and will only be used only for tallying purposes. Making a choice is not mandatory, but the choices will affect whether Audentes passes or fails the mission. You may of course thread out other options, but they will not count for the purposes of the pass/fail tally. Again, you may only officially choose one option per character. OOC NOTES Because this log is being posted late in the month, threads are eligible for March or April AC, but not both. Though the encounter with Percy will be a short one, the rest of this log will last two IC weeks. After that, characters will be immediately rifted away from Woodhurst without warning. THOSE WHO RECEIVE THE CURE: As the virus is not a degenerative disease, characters will suffer no lasting (physical) trauma caused by it. Side-effects from the cure may include nausea, weakness, vertigo, rash, brain fog, numbness of the face, insomnia, dizziness, fatigue, heart palpitations, or vomiting. This may last for anywhere up to four weeks. THOSE WHO RECEIVE THE VACCINE: Side-effects may include irritability and hunger for anywhere up to four weeks. Questions about Woodhurst can be submitted to this thread. Questions about the game in general should be directed to the FAQ. You may submit mission ideas or player plots at any time. Please note whether your character would rather subdue or kill him; if they would like to subdue him, please detail what they would like to do with him afterwards. Remember, Percy is not included in the mission objectives, and a certain number of people administering cures/vaccines is necessary to pass the mission, so think carefully about whether or not your character would do this! [At this point there are entire neighborhoods abandoned or boarded up in town, the residents either ill or fleeing for less infected locales. But, by now...less infected locales are getting harder and harder to come by in general, aren't they? Never mind how it seems to change by the hour now--one moment a street's peacefully empty, and the next moment it's teeming with figures hungry and unsteady. Which is just Mob's luck, really, because here he is--later in the evening, trying to cross from one neighborhood to another, only to discover quite a lot of infected passing through at the same time. It's either running away, or fighting, or hiding and waiting out this influx of infected traffic...and he's still not a very good runner, and he still remembers the mission dossier clearly, impossibly tucked away alongside a lot of other things in the little magic(??) brooch now pinned to the front of his hoodie. Stay discreet, don't openly use...abilities that would be strange. Like psychic powers. The idea in itself isn't so oppressive--he still doesn't like using his powers like that anyhow--but now there's still a problem on his hands here, if he can't get himself hidden away fast...

Almost all the houses on this street are boarded up too tight for easy entry. But one of them has a small garden plot up against the front porch--weedy and wilted with the chill of the season and the disrepair of the area, now. Mob finds there's plenty of seeds in the soil, though, seeds that still grow with some encouragement of the telekinetic variety. ...The tomato plants that result are...decidedly larger than the norm. Large enough to qualify more as a tiny grove of enormous tomato bushes, complete with tomatoes nearly as large as one's head. But that's not important. What's important is that they're bushes large enough to effectively hide inside, now, shielded from view outside both by the large leaves and the deepening evening.

So here Mob is, hunkered down among the giant tomato plants with a close eye on the street when a form comes into view that neither wobbles nor slavers. The closer they come, the more evident it gets that they're not sick at all--or at least aren't showing the symptoms too drastically yet. The latter is certainly a risk, but Mob is willing to try his luck if it means ensuring the safety of another uninfected person--which is why he stands up, and leans out of his makeshift patch of bushes, a small form with a pale face waving from between enormous tomato leaves.] Hey...come over here. Are you okay?

[But sometimes there aren't any tomato plots to hijack, and sometimes you end up in the wrong place at the wrong time anyhow. Backing into the alleyway hadn't been intentional at all, but Mob hadn't been paying attention, and the large man in a very late stage of infection had been persistent. In the end, Mob doesn't even realize he's cornered himself until his back bumps into the dead end of the alley wall behind him.

It's an enclosed area, and it's only the barely-cognizant infected man looking at him now, and these factors combined with the duress of the situation finally push Mob into action, reluctantly. He hasn't got a plan, a strategy of escape--he's tired, and still disoriented, and his thoughts clatter about in a very not-useful sort of way at the moment--so instead it's instinct that kicks in first, has him extending his hands palms forward right as the man charges for him. --And stops, three yards away, limbs freezing and locking, face contorting in a mixture of confusion and rage. Mob exhales slowly, focus bent forward, closing his telekinetic grip about the man and directing him as gently as he can. Move the legs, make him take a step back, and then another, despite how his muscles might work and resist. Slowly, slowly--he doesn't want to hurt this man, he's just very sick--Mob has the man walking backwards all the way to the mouth of the alley.

But before he can push him out further, far enough to make a break around him and down the street, two more infected people stagger up to the front of the alley. Mob stops short, shifting one hand, locking the both of them in place too. But with his attention divided between three different bodies now, and any lapse of focus being sure to free one limb too many, Mob can only stand there, poised just inside the alley with both hands outstretched towards the infected that lean and strain for him, as if held back by a pair of invisible leashes. He's not sure how to proceed short of outright bodily flinging all these people away, which he still does not want to do...and this is probably a very weird sight from an outside point of view. Mob hopes a local person doesn't happen upon this. (But a person from--Audentes, that would probably be very helpful about now....)]

( she's small and fast and wary and while she does try to stay in side, these days she cannot. there are vaccines to distribute, and while she may not be qualified for much, she can run. oh, she can run, and she can carry, and so she does.

Chihiro makes herself useful. it's how she can stand being here; it's how she handles the horror.

the tomato bushes give her pause further down the street. they're so large, so impressively healthy in winter that she's immediately taken aback. it's like seeing a neon sign for "look here," only she's not sure what the purpose of that is when the big problem here is how many people can't think of anything at all other than a need to feed that leaves everyone feeling bad. it's hard to be angry at sick people. it's easier being angry that this was inflicted on them, but that's... not all right, but it can be managed. the vaccine. the cure. her need for running.

... and now these tomato plants. she admits her suspicions run toward magic; magic runs toward Audentes, and Audentes means team members. but she's still slow and cautious as she approaches, a ten year old girl wearing the uniform's pants and a generic sweatshirt with bleach stains on the arms and splattered across her chest. it's fine. at least it's clean.

she spies him when he leans out, trying to catch her attention; hesitates and looks from the gigantic fruits and the incredible leaves to his pale face once more. )

( she makes a scoping sort of motion, not wanting to point; gesturing broadly toward the tomato bushes and biting down on her lower lip before shaking her head. )

I'm okay. My name's Chihiro. Um... ( she straightens, takes a step closer. stops. ) Does the name Audentes mean anything to you?

the middle school quarantine

[One of Keith's first thoughts is to take a bunch of cures and get more bodies on it. Now that he's taken the vaccine (which, frankly, made him feel like he could've eaten a serving of half of McDonald's menu), he's less afraid of what might come of this. He knows he'd be at it anyway, but getting that into his system was step one. Step two: getting his team back out there. That's what makes sense. That's what works.

Once he gets into the school, he begins knocking on the various doors of the protected classrooms upon arrival. He knows that there's no chance of anyone really getting out, but he's expecting a fight ahead. Whenever someone answers—verbally or otherwise—he'll be ready to brave that room, even if it might lead to some violence.

But as much as Keith is a grumpy guy, he's not likely to hold it against anyone.]

[With a good number of their people out delivering cures or trying to protect citizens, Keith will be trying to run support while focusing on his main task of curing the populace. It's not that he doesn't want to protect people, but he knows that he's durable enough with his paladin suit to get closer to people.

That said, he's more than willing to jump into the fray to help out a teammate in need, whether they're administering a cure, protecting people around them, or just trying to get people to cover on their way to a hospital.]

[ Shiro had been trying to downplay the seriousness of his situation since the moment he'd been infected. But by now, he can feel his self-control slipping away. The gnawing hunger is an unshakeable distraction. It crowds out every other thought he has. His focus is gone.

It's hard not to be angry too. He feels himself slipping away. After everything, Shiro can't help but be viciously angry at having survived the entirety of captivity in Galra prison to lose himself here.

But mostly, he finds himself long enough to worry about using his hand. Shiro's slowly opening and closing his metal fingers when the knock comes. His mouth immediately waters uncomfortably. ]

Go away.

[ His voice has gone ragged. He sounds desperate. Shiro doesn't know how to curb that. ]

[Okay, so to the civilians, most might not be so comforted by a barely thirteen year old to be offering to escort them if they need to get to the hospital for a vaccine or cure. But Sakura is going around and offering anyway, keeping her staff active as Sword even while she actually has Shield active in her attempts to help keep people safe on the trip there.

It's not easy, but she tries to be discreet, to use the Sword to smack the hilt against the infected's head if any of them come at her and anyone else she's escorting, to knock them out.

It's only after that she might pause. If it's an adult, that might. Make it difficult in Sakura getting them to the hospital as well.]

Now to get them to the hospital too...I ran out of more syringes with it.

Did we have more syringes with the cure? I'm going to go out again.

[She asks when she gets back, dropping off another infected and bringing the family in that she escorted to get their vaccine. She probably looks tired already, having been at this for a while now. Maybe some tears at her clothes from close calls with the infected at times. Some grazes from falling over. But she still wants to help. Is still determined to do her part, even if not by going to find and deal with the one responsible for all this.]

( it's basically bedlam, but Chihiro feels that's been their lives for weeks by now. she's not administering the vaccines, but she carries alcohol swabs and disposal containers and syringes.

the cure is a whole other story. she glances at Sakura, lips pressed together, then nods. )

[ Dipper Pines does not always keep to his promises.

Hence why he's sneaking down Woodhurst's streets without a partner in crime; he knows there's others who would disapprove, but when their efforts now count more than ever, he has to do something, even when everyone else is busy doing their part. And if that means doing, say, the neighbors a few favors... Dipper may not be able to fend off the infected for those who wish to venture out, but lending a hand to the people who're scared to do so was still a priority. At least this means they don't potentially get themselves killed by leaving their homes.

(It puts himself in that position instead, but details, really.)

If for some reason you also happen to be out and about, you may spot Dipper peeking out from the corner of an abandoned building, cautiously keeping himself pressed up against the wall; he appears focused toward the entrance of the Dollarclub up ahead—equally abandoned, with some windows still boarded up, others broken—which is unfortunately already occupied by a handful of the infected shambling about. They are certainly looking for something, though, and it doesn't take a whole lot to figure out what.

Dipper could wait it out and hope they go away, but the more he lingers, the riskier it'll get. If only he was any good at knocking people out... Like maybe YOU are!! ]

The streets are a maze of infected, the hospital's overflowing, and the police department's made no real dent in controlling the spread of infection that increases with every passing day. Riza hasn't been home in a day, probably longer, and she doubts she'll be able to return home or even sit down for a quick minute any time soon. The only thing keeping her sane is the fact that Dipper's at home safe, probably marathoning some other movie—and, apparently, right across the street from her peering out from one corner.

What in the everloving hell.

A verbal reprimand's out of the way given the loose gang of infected sidling down the street not too far off, but there's always the magitek.]

A) Quarantine - Stab your Friends
[The end is coming. The town is practically destroyed. There's a cure, but for how many people is that cure too late?

There's sure to be a body-count, later. For now, the important thing is to make sure that number doesn't include anymore of their teammates. Thus, Mettaton is finally putting himself to a more "practical" use and visiting his sick friends.

No matter how long he's been staying in the school, it's always a crapshoot in whether or not the inhabitants have already lost their minds. He's twirling a syringe in one hand, glowering at them in their room, cloak off, in an attempt to intimidate.

...just in case that still works.]

I assure you: you don't want me to have to do this the hard way, darling.

[He doesn't want to have to do this the hard way. Do you know how much EFFORT there is in doing it the hard way?]

B) Hospital - Welcome to My Darkplace
[After the terrordome that was the school, it's time to move on to where the citizens need help: the hospital. At this point, the staff don't particularly care about strange men in stolen uniforms injecting sick patients, so long as that injection actually seems to be helping.

They're also willing to refer to said strange man as "Dr. Medda Tonne MD," regardless of how nonsensical that is. If he's helping, they'll let him have it.

At least, until one nurse recognizes him. She stops, eyes wide and terrified, as she watches him. Her hands quiver, reaching her hand out, but not quite grabbing, the scrubs of another nurse.]

"You're not a doctor- I know you!! You were in the hospital two weeks ago; you died!"

[He looks at her, his arm stuffed in the mouth of a particularly violent patient, as he injects them in the neck.]

...that wasn't me.

C) Town - Ancient Zombie Herding Technique
[He didn't see Charlie's mother at the hospital. Sans said he saw her being taken away, but who knows what that implies. It could just be that he missed her: she could have been helped by someone else. It could mean that she didn't make it. It could be that she escaped and is wandering somewhere in the town.

...regardless, there's still a lot of work to do. He's charged himself by now, not wanting to repeat the nonsense from the mall, and stands in one of the more deserted and infested parts of town. The infected don't particularly care about him when he's quiet, what with not being edible and all.

They don't seem to appreciate it, however, when he's singing.

Which he is, wordlessly, a syringe clutched to his chest, to attract their attention. It's working.

It'd be beautiful, if the scene wasn't horrifying. It's probably not the smartest idea to stand too close, honestly.]

I. The much-loathed NPC escort mission

[ Before he's even had much time to contemplate the fact that he's been essentially kidnapped and forced to work for an organization that he's never heard of, Noctis now finds himself transported yet again to some suburban sprawl after being handed a mission dossier. While he hadn't verbally agreed to any of it, it's not as though he's really given much of a choice but to comply, especially when he lacks the ability to teleport himself back to Duscae. There aren't a lot of other solutions except to try and get the mission over and done with so he can get back to trying to recover the Regalia.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like his plans will go that smoothly as he wanders around in circles with a lost child in tow, one he saved earlier from nearly being devoured, and he's now left trying to figure out where to even go with her. Including a proper map in the dossier wouldn't have been too much to ask, would it? Even worse is the fact that his cell phone has no bars, so he can't reach his friends nor even try and use its GPS to navigate his way around Woodhurst. All in all, it's a shitty way to start his morning off, and he's fairly sure he's passed the same tree about seventeen times in a row.

-Wait, did that tree just groan at him? ]

Get back-!

[ He pushes the little girl behind him and instantly summons his sword as his eyes narrow towards the source of the noise, unsure if it'll be another one of those sallow-eyed, flesh-starved creatures or one of the city's occupants. He's not given much time to contemplate it as the little girl behind him erupts in a panicked cry, making him wince and whip around, one hand rising in a placating gesture to quickly try and calm her down. Okay, so this is probably why the dossier said to remain discreet and all that stuff about powers. Right. ]

No, um, it's okay! Big bro Noct is here. See-

[ He grins and lets his palm gently tap against his own chest. ]

I'll get rid of the monsters for you.

[ His grin doesn't quite reach his eyes because he's just as scared as she is, if he's honest with himself. He doesn't know what those things are, only that he can't let them get close to himself or any of the city dwellers here. ]


II. Where is Dr. Oz's poop chart when you need it? aka guarding the hospital

[ So he's had some time to adjust to being constantly under threat, finding it's really not that much different than Niffs dropping from the sky every other step or daemons deciding he'd make a good flesh-covered punching bag. And much like daemons, the infected aren't that pleasant to look at, having to fight off wave after wave of queasiness around them until he finally arrives at the hospital.

It seems like a decent place to station himself for the time being, having had his fill of running around and stepping on ...organs. Or what he assumes were organs. He hadn't been keen on taking a closer look at any of the corpses, the stench horrid enough to give him even more nightmares than the ones he has already.

Just as that thought flits through his head, one of the infected patients escapes from the orderlies' grasps and immediately beelines towards one of ALASTAIR'S other "volunteers," ready to tackle them to the ground, and Noctis' body moves before his mind can even think to, launching himself in between and summoning his shield to halt the infected patient's advance. His teeth grit together tight as he keeps the shield in between as a barrier, only having enough time to briefly glance over his shoulder. ]

You okay?

[ Followed by a shove forward from the infected, knocking him off balance and making him curse quietly under his breath. He's also well aware he just outed himself a second time once more, having trouble remembering all those details in the dossier. ]


III. Choose your own adventure!

[ She had been passing by, rather than heading to the same space purposely. Hearing the little girl shriek has her startled enough to stop in her tracks, her turning to look in their direction. She's quick to speed up at seeing them looking at each other, rather than at what had been groaning nearby. Really, her body is still a bit sluggish so it's dangerous for her to run to their aid when she should be taking easier options but--

--but she can't leave someone who is in need either.

She's quick enough to dart around, spinning once she's in range to whack the poor infected person around the back of the head with her own sheathed katana. It'll leave a bump, but at least like this she can help them properly. ]

Keep watch on the area.

[ It's probably strange, having this girl in a fancy suit run up to you and start barking orders, but she did just help out so... you know. ]

And I would like to add-- [ She's less commanding this time as she speaks, injecting the person with the cure. ] --that this is a person underneath it all.

[ She holds up the syringe once it's done, stepping back to look towards them properly now. Thankfully, the area isn't too crowded so his mistake with showing his powers should mostly go unnoticed. ]

Please, do not worry.

[ Her voice is softer as she steps away from the person on the floor who is apparently starting to heal now - at least from the virus anyway. Her hand drops the syringe on the floor after, hand moving to pat the little girl on the head. Her tone is soothing enough that somehow she seems to stop freaking out as much, anyway. Magic. ]

I assume you were trying to get her to somewhere safe?

[ It's strange that for weeks she'd been in these halls donned in scrubs; yet, today as she walks as quickly down the halls, she's dressed completely differently, even to the point where her shoes are less like her normal comfy shoes or boots as well. She has a bow in place of the tie, but it isn't clothing she would ordinarily wear for herself--it's a thank you. Her hair is up in a bun, and even if it's utterly out of place her hand is clutching a sheathed pink katana as well.

This does not match up, but the fact that she's rushing in to prepare more of the cure might make it more understandable. ]

[ She's still a bit foggy after waking up from a medically induced coma, but at least she's got Sieglinde to somewhere safe by now and handled some other things. Now, she can really get to work. ]

[ Sieglinde had been right in a way, that she should have waited, but she does feel much lighter now that she can think without something gnawing at the back of her mind, impulses having been controlling her rather than her own rational thoughts. Standing in the streets like this where everything has begun to turn to chaos should make her freak out as well, especially after last time she had gone into herself, but something lifted along the way. It's easier to handle it all now.

It has a lot to do with the syringes she's stocked up on and the katana in her hand. She never releases it from the sheath, but it does help to knock people out with the covered blade rather than giving anyone permanent injury. Once the first person is down, she leans to press the needle in, inserting the cure into them.

She's still trying to be on guard, but it's very difficult with the madness going on around them which is why she doesn't really notice when someone tries to dive at her from behind - from her blind spot. ]

[Keith might be That Jerk who leaves her crying in a restaurant, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't care. It just means that he's the most awkward guy in all the land. Or one of them. To be fair, Audentes is fully stocked on awkward people, but Keith seems determined to take the prize.

Thankfully, there's nothing awkward about the way he slams into the body of the infected, except for where he briefly clips Sonia with his foot in the process. His goal is to keep her safe, and his paladin armor helps. The infected begins to fight back almost immediately, so there isn't a whole lot else he can say. Instead, the air is filled with a whole lot of frustrated grunts, some from Keith, and some from the dude beneath him, fighting for his life.

[ ...It's been a hell of a trek to the hospital. She doesn't want to kill anyone if she can, but it's become nearly impossible to avoid casualties. While her magic offers a variety of nonlethal (and hopefully subtle) ways to subdue the sick, she needs time to regenerate and refocus her energy. In the interim she has to rely on the steel pipe she's acquired from a long-abandoned hardware store, employ concussions and broken kneecaps to incapacitate the infected.

A. Her excess caution dulls her fighting edge, however, and at some point she's temporarily disarmed of her makeshift weapon. It rolls away from her with a metallic clatter, and before she can retrieve it there's a sudden and vicious grab for her shoulder. (She lets loose a sleeping spell and the savage grip goes instantly slack.) Someone else barrels into her, knocking her off her feet, and she tasers her assailant with a muted spark of Thunder from her palm before shoving the unconscious body off her.

But there's more quickly closing in, and she finds herself easily outnumbered before she's even gotten back to her feet...

B. OR, she finds YOU outnumbered, and rushes in to help thin the crowd. An invisible bubble of shielding magic helps push back the infected long enough for her to extend a helping hand up. ] ...Quickly.

( not even lacking a heart can force undue enthusiasm for the amount of time he's spent in the sewers lately. at least, this time feels finally a bit more productive. not to say that chasing down a catnapper had not been important, yet the population of infected living in the filthy halls and tunnels of the sewers certainly had made any foray underground a little uncomfortable.

searching for Percy had not been a great deal more enjoyable, frankly.

now, at the very least, they had cures to offer. it was far from easy work, especially with the individuals that were especially late in the progression of the disease, yet someone had to do it. he was glad to not have to do it alone. Brother was begrudgingly at his heels (not a fan of the smell, the wolf, unsurprisingly) and Lucina was a valuable partner. )

I have about twenty doses. It's getting them still enough to tolerate an injection that might slow us. ( he's running out of tranquilizer darts, so Graham is looking to Lucina for suggestions. now that he's had a vaccine, there's probably no more risk than usual doing it the hard way. )

[ The news of a cure is a breath of fresh air she desperately needed, a weight on her chest that's finally settled, hope quickly replacing it. All that's left is actually getting the cure out there, but compared to what they've ( what she has ) endured up until this point — this is nothing.

So, she's back out on the streets again, out from the sewers, sword still in a ski-bag she found in the mall, pistol on her belt and her police uniform on ( it's a bit of a disaster to see, probably ). Her primary focus are the citizens of Woodhurst — but then, that's because she knows there's more personal investment in finding her teammates. How she'll deal with them should she run into them is... something she needs to think about a little more.

The fates aren't that kind, though, not every time. Sometimes, her teammate is here to help, and other times, she has to face them head on. ] ... I just want to help. [ A useless plea by this point, especially given that her hand reaches to pull the sword out from the bag; she grips her sword with the flat side facing the infected, the Falchion's purpose not to slash, but to hit. Ideally the back of their head. If it's a comrade shows up by her side, she gives them a small, wary smile.

+) Alternatively, the infected are relentless and not killing something that very much wants her blood is... difficult. Lucina becomes increasingly exhausted with each battle, and while she manages to dodge the strike from the infected in front of her, the second is aiming for the back of her neck, teeth bared— ]

[ And once all of it calms down ( somehow, against all odds ) — Lucina finally takes a seat on the curb of a sidewalk, letting out a long exhale. Exhaustion comes in waves, alternating with hunger, complete with a need to do nothing else and sleep for the next couple of days. Just underneath that though, there's a sharper bed of tension and hostility that doesn't seem to disappear, beneath her heavy eyelids and aching legs. She tries to reign it back in; it won't help anyone now, and she's always had better control than... this.

But it doesn't work as well as she would've hoped. ] What is it?

[ Her tone is sharp, something normally reserved for her enemies, the edges of it acid. A second passes before the tension seeps out of her muscles, and she sighs again. ] I apologize. It's been a long day, hasn't it? [ She can do better than this, she knows that. ]

[ It's hard to tell at exactly what point the tides began to turn and the chaos began to die off, but for the most part, the city seems to have reached it. Which is a good thing, because Sigma's starting to feel sicker than he'd felt all mission. It's a shame the cure had to come before the curing, none of these side effects are meshing well with a concussion, and being helpful at all is turning into a real crapshoot. Every bit of curb is starting to look ideal for collapsing on, but as soon as he spots a familiar face down the road, he decides to hold out a little bit longer. This familiar face in particular has to have had so much more weighing on her in this final push to victory... ]

Hey, Luce. Are y— [ Perhaps a mistake, considering the way she snaps at him gets him jolting a similar height licking an electric fence might. Holy shit, tensing all at once does not do a body good, but he's been on such high temper alert all week he couldn't help it. ]

[ He sighs a moment after she permits herself to, although his is more of a groan as he slouches propped on his knees where he stands. ] You can say that again... And it's not even over.

[ Stepping (staggering) off the curb, Sigma takes a seat perhaps a little too politely distant from her for comfort. This is quickly remedied when he leans her way and haphazardly lies down, rolling onto his back, legs askew, head inches from her hip. Eyes not quite angled up at her right. ] You think the sun would at least have the decency to go all the way down eventually... or... y'know, kinda stay in one place...

( it has not really been that long since he's gotten his cure. he's facing a few symptoms, mostly nausea. around food. he has a feeling trying to eat people might contribute a lot to this, though, because he can remember it all too well. that sort of thought process is seriously not going to help him out here. turns out, after you spend a night on a rampage trying to eat whatever human passed by your peripheral, it's kind of hard not to think about it. staying busy helps, so that's what he's trying to do.

even if a part of him is pretty afraid he'll be recognized as the monster that was roaming the streets, he's still determined to do what he can to make amends. frankly he could give every citizen of Woodhurst the cure and it wouldn't make him feel as if he was close to breaking even. there's no "sorry" for what he did. didn't matter, he had to try anyway. he had to keep moving, because the places his mind wandered when he stopped weren't pretty.

when he heard of a medical tent run by the team, that's one of the first places he heads. granted he can do some good work down in the sewers, he isn't quite mentally prepared enough to recollect his webshooters, and maybe? he's not ready to look what he was not too long ago in the eye. until then, the medical tent seems like a fair place to station himself, he can be helpful. more helpful than he managed to be as far as the making of the cure was concerned.

he ducks through the door, spotting a brunette figure bowed over some work, and he approaches carefully. ) Hey. Hi. I'm — ( and then the woman looks up and it's Padmé Amidala, holy shit he is not prepared for this. he has sort of been a bit out of the commission the past few days, he absolutely is not caught up in current events. a shame. because it could have avoided his dumbfounded reaction. ) I— I— oh. 01 ⚝ THEY SEE ME ROLLIN', THEY HATIN'

[Cars are a great way to get around Woodhurst, but when what you are doing is distributing vaccine and cure, an ambulance is a far more easy-to-understand symbol of your purpose... and Graham has procured her one, which has made Sieglinde's mission much easier.

In fact, she has gone to the trouble to make the purpose even more obvious by writing, in large black lettering "VACCINES & CURATIVE MEDICINE: AVAILABLE" on the side. (A little vandalism in times like these was surely forgivable.)

The sirens are going off as they move down the street, with Graham at the wheel and Sieglinde in the passenger seat scanning for people, infected or not, so if you need something... wave them down.

Or maybe you want to tell them there's a severely degraded infected looking like it's planning to leap from a nearby roof onto the loud and noisy meat carrying wagon.]

02 ⚝ DID SOMEONE CALL FOR AN AMBULANCE?

[Traveling to the places with both the most uninfected (shelters) and infected (quarantine) has been a priority, and with Graham's stolen ambulance the task has been made easier. Sieglinde sets up the mobile hospital, what a useful vehicle, in both these locations, operating out of the back to distribute as much of the medicine as possible.

Since she'd finally managed the cure using the accumulated data of her fellows after they'd succumbed to infection she hadn't rested, knowing just how much was riding on the discovery... and since it had been proven effective on those same infected scientists, she hadn't rested still. But at least there's hope in her now, a fire re-lit as she gestures weakly for the next person in line to step forward.]

[Sieglinde knew who the first to serve as the test subject for this cure would be before she had finished replicating enough of it to serve. Tests within a lab were all well and good, but there came a time when you needed living, breathing subjects and not blood on microscope slides. Sonia's infection was preceding far quicker than many others, and if left alone, it was possible she would soon be beyond help... and Sieglinde would have chosen her as the first subject for testing even if she hadn't volunteered herself before the coma.

Which left calling Giovanni. His assistance had been welcome, and thankfully they hadn't encountered much resistance on the way, Sieglinde in the suit-clad man's arms and Isengrim loping easily beside them, his ALASTAIR disguise making him appear a normal large hound and not a skull-faced familiar. (To think, the man holding her now was the one whose blood was the basis for potentially saving all those people-)]

[For a month now Achilles has scarce slept. When sleep comes, it is fleeting and fractured. Bright-eyed Athena, daughter of Zeus, watches not by his side: she cannot drape the darkness of dreams over his eyes, nor can she pour her sweet ambrosia down his throat to sustain him while he falls apart. If slumber dissolves all sorrows, then every minute he spends awake stretches his sorrow all the wider to swallow him whole.

There came one night of blessed oblivion, when sleep fell like an iron ax, the night that Patroclus' mortal shell burned to ash upon the pyre. For twelve nights before the funeral, he had lain watching the silenced body of his dear friend and lamenting the cold indifference of Fate, which like sleep refused to take him. Every night since then, he has lain watching his own reflection in the golden urn in which wait his friend's bones and contemplating revenge. Menoetius' glorious son had been laid to rest, escorted by Charon to that far shore, yet still his ghost lingers in all of the questions Achilles has for those final moments of which he knows nothing.

It is Percy who gives his wandering feet direction, his floundering hands purpose. For him, his shapeless rage sharpens to a point more deadly than that of any arrow. Man cannot lash out against the deathless gods who lay low cities with plague - he must accept what they mete out. Yet when his fellow man supposes himself a god and crafts his own plague, a plague which robs the life of him that he holds most dear, what law will deny him retribution?

a. In grief he is more man than god, but in rage he is more beast than man. The son of Peleus needs not don his splendid armor to strike terror in his enemies' hearts: the terrible rage in his eyes mark him as a force with which to be reckoned. The robotic soldiers commanded by the doctor know no better only because they are not human. Like a river in winter's spate, surging over the fields and uprooting trees caught in its violent torrent, Achilles unleashes his godlike strength upon the guards, hacking their gleaming limbs off with his sword, never ceasing in his burbling fury. Should a comrade find himself or herself in trouble, it shall not be long before the swift runner leaps for the assailant.

b. Then comes the terrible moment when it seems that murderous Percy might escape the punishment Achilles aches to pour down upon him, lusting for his blood and hungry for his dying groans. There is little glory in slaying a coward, but he would have his vengeance: blood in payment for that which spilled from Patroclus. The doctor darts through their ranks, his repugnant skin shimmering as he goes, and Achilles' heart howls in indignation. When he charges forth, purposing to run his blade through the monster's slimy back, his course is cut short by yet another glinting guard. The first shot splits the air, then the second. He does not see the fiend fall to the ground.

It is not until all of the guards have been felled that he can come to Percy's side. His last spastic breaths have already stilled, his beady eyes gone glassy. Yet this does not stop Achilles from swinging his sword down upon his back, raising a spray of green lifeblood as when a chariot's wheels carve through mud and fling dirty water.]

So you thought yourself a god, you vile wretch? Yet even the gods at times have mercy - in your blackened heart there was none! Neither mercy nor pity, neither honor nor courage - what then dwells in your heart? It was not man and woman who brought you forth, but the jagged sea cliffs and the mud that men trod underfoot!

[With each invective, his blade lashes the doctor's flayed flesh, his chest heaves with the force of his hatred, and he shows no sign of halting in this abuse.]

[Doctor Percy is dead, his slippery body left in the sewers as a feast for rats and maggots. With Patroclus thus avenged, Achilles falls into a deep slumber as a stone plummets into the recesses of a pond: upon his return to the house he cleans from his body the filth, the grime of sewers and the green blood sprayed by the dead doctor, and naked he burrows beneath the blankets he had once shared with his partner. Not once does he awaken until the next morning.

The dreamless void of his sleep, the nothingness in which he is suspended, is a salve for his long-suffering heart, but when he wakes the emptiness of the house aches within him. There is none to share it with but the silent golden urn in which rest Patroclus' bones.

Sieglinde is of course tethered to her work, distributing the vaccine and cure over which she had long labored. If he wishes for a distraction from the deafening silence, from the emptiness of his hands, then all there is to do is lend himself to the relief efforts. Still this city suffers, and he shall see that it ceases.

Prowling the streets, he fears not infection, for the cure waits like a benison granted by the gods. Nor does he fear death, for there hangs about it no dark unknowns. The son of Peleus escorts frightened citizens to the hospital, shepherding them around bands of roaming infected. The streets are so clogged with the ravenous, and gas in such short supply, that driving is not an option for many. Moreover, to drive in a car would be to trap oneself there: the infected would swarm as do bees to a smashed fruit. And so on foot they go.

Achilles is a few blocks from the hospital, on his way to retrieve another patient, when he spies a familiar figure. Oliver is given no warning then as he is pulled into the shaded alleyway.]

even in the chaos, her motorcycle still works. she weaves through the streets, stops wherever it seems help is needed, the Clima-tact ever-present with an electric charge to subdue anyone who doesn't want to accept the cure. this time, however, she stops not because of someone in need of a cure... but rather because the sight that meets her at the side of the road is one that's concerning to her nonetheless. she stops the bike, lifts her helmet as she peers down at the sidewalk... or the person who's sitting there, really. ]

(yes, yes, he's still worrying about an actual god. it's never going to stop, better get used to it.)

the next few days pass in a flurry of vaccines, cures, ever-changing locations around the city, checking up on the people he hasn't seen, hasn't spoken to in a while. waiting for one person in particular to check up with him — though when he does, finally, Stiles wishes he hadn't.

he deals with it the same way he deals with everything painful, everything that stabs him like needles, cuts him like knives — he ignores it. he's fine; he's fine.

(he's not, and the longer he spends on his own, the louder his mind shouts, yells. he tries to distract himself; more work around the city. only there, he meets with someone, another myth come to life, and suddenly, the worry he had been able to push away is back — it is easier, to worry for someone else being hurt than focus on the way his lungs burn every time he draws breath.)

maybe... maybe he's not the only one who needs a distraction. ]

[In hindsight, before she'd lost her head, she thought she should have just stayed where she was. That she shouldn't have gone off and done what she had, even if she believed she could have held herself together until she'd returned to quarantine. Now she couldn't think, driven fully by the desire to feed.

She'd lost track of how long she'd been wandering, how long and how angry she'd grown with each passing second ticking by as she walked. She wasn't sure if she was lost or if the part of her that was still sane was keeping her path to vacant alleys and away from the rising chaos. But her luck (fortunately?) unfortunately runs out as a few people looking for a short cut come across her.

They stop as she continues her aimless advance, the switch between searching and hunting flipping almost immediately. Her slow step becomes something close to a sprint, one of the people screaming as the rest of them take off in the direction they came with her right on their heels. All of them but one get away, the young woman tripping and ending up quickly pinned to the alley wall nearby.

She's three inches away from taking a chunk out of the flailing woman, jaw wide and teeth ready to close around the exposed skin of her throat when a shred of sanity returns, freezing her in place. She's so hungry but this isn't how it's supposed to be --

When he thinks of how many suffered and died because of this manufactured disease, he thinks briefly of too many like him back on Runeterra, in Zaun.

Not long after, he marches out of the sewers, trying to ignore the stench of himself and those around him.

[ Everything has gone more than awry, that much is clear for anyone who's spent more than a few minutes looking around at the state of the streets and buildings that line Woodhurst's streets. They'd come here when everything had been quiet and reasonably peaceful and old ladies had yelled at him when he'd skidded by their gardens and put their flowers in danger of being beaten by his stupid shoes, kids had scurried along sidewalks, people had been here.. and now? Now the surroundings he can remember being bright and crowded are barren and dangerous, and Naruto cant bring himself to be light-hearted about it for long. It's serious, it's troubling, and he's doing everything he can to help out wherever he's useful.

He can't bring himself to loot, either, when there are so many other people in need. He's already emptied out what food he had in his own backpack, so he's peering into store windows to see if there's anyone around who's maybe got a little to spare. It's tough, since a much younger him often sought out any spares at the market in his own village and was often turned away in the same fashion as he is now, but he soldiers on. ]

Look, it's not for me, okay? There's a lady an' two kids hidin' in their house back there, an' they aren't lookin' good. I'll pay you back later, I promise-- anythin' you want an' it's yours.

[ He really is starting to see how important being capable of healing can be in situations like these. Suddenly the necessity of medic-nin is so much more apparent to him, and he vows right now that when he becomes Hokage one day, he'll make sure everyone learns at the very least basic medical ninjutsu because damn, this hurts.

In trying to dodge a crowd of rabid infected he'd accidentally bumped into, he's managed to throw himself into a wall and scrape a few layers of skin off his forearm, and that's before he trips and tumbles down a small decline at the side of a road and drives both his unprotected knees into the sharp rocks and pebbles at the bottom. That isn't what he's hissing in pain at, though. In escaping the small hoard that's been following him he manages to scale up a wire fence but doesn't notice the barbed wire at the top and dives head first into it, gets tangled and falls down the other side with it's spikes and razor edges still stuck to his skin and clothing.

At least he isn't in the way of the zombies anymore, but now he has to deal with unfurling the winding metal from his person before he gets caught up in even more shenanigans. :I ]

[ Let it never be said that Naruto's fixation with food has never come in handy. Through various trades and after giving away most of the money he's made in his time here, Naruto has stockpiled a small list of specific ingredients which, alone, are relatively useless but together make a small ball of nutrients that he's incredibly familiar with.

Soldier pills are, after all, one of the key ways shinobi survive on long missions where food might not be easily accessible. He's packed them into small squares of tissue and is handing them out to anyone he sees who looks a little harried - Audentes or otherwise - and is reassuring them with his best smile and a firm-- ]

Trust me, it'll help!

Ban, squatting down beside Naruto as he pried serrated metal from himself, gave the young man a grin before lifting his head to give the horde on the other side of the fence a bored huff from his nostrils.]
