EVENT ★ WELCOME TO LERAMZEN
WELCOME TO LERAMZEN ![]() After nearly three weeks of "relaxation" in Oska, Audentes is given 48 hours to prepare for their next mission. Right on time, they are rifted to a different dimension, landing them in the futuristic city of Leramzen. Instead of appearing in a large group, recruits are spread throughout the city center so as not to draw attention to themselves, arriving in isolated areas: behind buildings hidden from the street, in public restrooms, stepping into the street from behind parked cars. The key is to blend in, though the metropolitan nature of Leramzen allows for some wiggle room; the locals see enough country bumpkins from all over the galaxy that they're willing to overlook a faux pas here or there from an obvious tourist. Recruits have two weeks before the day of the museum heist. During this time, they should contact their mission analyst, George, but the rest is up to them -- a perfect time to explore the luxuries that Leramzen has to offer. CITY LIFE ![]() The generous stipend will more than allow recruits to take in the sights and treat themselves to a luxury meal or two, but of particular interest should be the clothing and jewelry stores found in the city center. There are shops that cater to any style and taste, including a few bespoke tailors that have a convenient turnaround time of two weeks. In addition to shopping and cultural pursuits, there is an ice rink in the city center, maintained for the long winter season, and horse-drawn carriages that will take passengers on a ride through Leramzen's historic Old Town. This is also a good chance to observe the State History Museum to get a lay of the land before the mission begins. But remember -- don't draw attention to yourselves, so going in all together might not be a good idea. Settle in and take in some sights, and get ready -- because when the mission begins, you never know what you'll be in for. OOC NOTES Welcome to the new mission! Heist sign-ups are now closed for current players, but all characters accepted after May 21st will still have the opportunity to sign up. For more information on the mission, please check the dossier and direct all questions about Leramzen to this thread. Questions about the game in general should be directed to the FAQ and you may submit mission ideas or player plots at any time. |

No, you're right, it is. Squid has a really mild taste, it isn't strong or fishy, not usually. Though, I guess I have no idea what non-sea squid would taste like?
( because Scott is right, that is strange. it's taking farming to a whole new level, if it's removing the ocean entirely. Peter finds himself incredibly curious, though he doubts that the quid line guy wants to chat with him about the biological reengineering required to grow squid outside of an ocean. )
So I guess this is going to be a first for both of us after all. ( their number is up and their tray seems to be full of food... now is just a matter of whether they're willing to eat it. )

A first ... but also ... [He takes a piece of quid. It's what fried squid looks like back on Earth, not that Scott knows that.] It makes me wonder how different the animals are all over. I've only been trying to know everything I can about animal biology in the last couple of years, but—there's gotta be something to the changes out here.
[Scott is not a nerd. He just likes animals a lot.]

Yeah? You're into biology? ( Peter notes, tone slightly lifted in the idea he's found someone that shares one of his biggest interests. ) It really makes you wonder, doesn't it? How they could recreate an artificial environment that they can grow in, one that doesn't even need salt water? I wonder if they're genetically modified to thrive in fresh water, or ... man, I don't even know. ( Peter cannot claim that he is not a nerd, sadly... he definitely is one. he looks mildly embarrassed by the sudden foray into science, though, shaking his head. ) I wish I did, though, biology is something I've always been interested in. I want to go into biophysics one day, if I ever get back to New York.
( Peter picks up a pair of eating utensils that look like elongated chopsticks and picks up a piece of quid. mostly, he just hopes that seafood won't set off the same queasiness that red meat does, or Peter will be forced to stick to the chips. something he does not want to have to explain to Scott, honestly, though he would if it came down to it. so far, so good, because he's starving, and not nauseated. )

I'm gonna be heading to UC Davis to study biology so I can become a vet someday. [It occurs to him as he says this that Stiles doesn't actually know this. And why would he? It had been a recent thing, largely born of the summer while Kira was gone and Scott realized he had to really put his life together. His life wouldn't always be that of someone wanting to save everyone. He could have a life for himself, too. Or so he hoped.] Uh, assuming I get home in time? I'm not sure how this all works. But since I've got the whole ... [He kind of wriggles his fingers.] The whole wolf thing, I'm hoping to make it work out.
[Part of that is understanding how animals can survive even in unfamiliar environments.]
Of course, we might just be missing a critical thing. What if the squid here just ... don't need water?
no subject
still hadn't, actually... Terra Felis was the most he'd been around animals in his entire life. )
The story on that changes, based on who you're asking. ( Peter's expression falls a little at that, but hey. it's something he feels a need to be honest about. ) But I hear that time might not move back home, even if it moves here. I kinda hope that's true, so my Aunt isn't missing me. So if that's how it works, you should be good, right?
( Peter tests a piece of quid in what looks like some variety of pepper sauce and carefully tests a bite. he waits for the protest of his stomach first and foremost, and when that doesn't happen? well, that's about all the hesitation he has. he eats three more pieces while he considers Scott's suggestion. )
You know, cephalopods don't have an RNA splicing system the way we do. They use RNA editing, which lets them adapt more quickly. Maybe they could even evolve to the point they don't need water... dude, that would be awesome, right? ( Peter seems starry eyed imagining it. too bad he won't get a chance to visit a waterless squid... )
no subject
You—uh, you're really good at this stuff, huh? [A beat.] It would be awesome, and honestly, out here? In a city that manages to subsist without daylight most of the time? I think they could manage it. They probably have to be more creative to pull it together. [Some part of him still feels a little foolish for being ... way, way less sharp than Peter. It's like saying a smart thing and then being followed up by Lydia. Wow.
Wow.]
Hey, this is a little sudden, but do you think you could help me keep up on my studies while I'm here? It sounds like you can help.
no subject
Ah, I... well, I have always been interested in it, you know? I've been reading about this stuff since I was a little kid. ( the little boy desperate to grow into his father's shoes had never quite grown out of his fascination with biology. ) Yeah, I think they could too. That's what evolution is about, you know? On earth they can edit their RNA to transition from warmer to polar waters, there's no telling what they could do to transition to life on a completely different planet and I'm totally doing it again, aren't I? Sorry.
( Peter manages a huff of a laugh, though this time, it's at himself. because nobody wants to talk about squids this much, Peter, calm down. he's surprised by the question, though Scott actually isn't the first to ask him. Reika had as well. ) Sure. I can try to. If you want to? It's harder without textbooks and stuff, but there's probably some back in Oska we can use. Or something like it.
no subject
But—thanks. Really. If you don't mind, I could really use the help. I'll look for a book or something to get us started. {Scott doesn't point out that he's only been a Good Student for the past couple of years. Or that before that, his inattention on his schoolwork had involved a lot of failing grades.
It's not that Scott doesn't want to be a good student. There's just a lot going on, and again, unlike Peter or Lydia, he's not as naturally savvy at this stuff. There's still that obvious eagerness in place. Or he wouldn't try to learn.]
no subject
even Peter can see that he probably took the excuse to not have to study instead of trying to keep at it, anyway. Woodhurst had been good proof of that, considering he slept through more of his lectures than he listened to. Scott made a great point, actually, and it'd probably benefit both of them. )
I don't mind, I've been out of the game way longer than you already. I'll keep an eye out, too, between the two of us, we should be able to find something. ( with that, Peter grabs another piece of quid, though he does point out, ) C'mon, give it a try. It's good.
no subject
So, he gladly takes up a few pieces of quid and drops them into the sweeter of the three sauces, which ultimately is what he decides he's happy with soon after.
He smiles, eyebrows raising and lowering.]
Yeah, that's definitely good. Definitely good. You've tried the sweet sauce, right?
[It's important commentary.]
