WELCOME TO LERAMZEN After nearly three weeks of "relaxation" in Oska, Audentes is given 48 hours to prepare for their next mission. Right on time, they are rifted to a different dimension, landing them in the futuristic city of Leramzen. Instead of appearing in a large group, recruits are spread throughout the city center so as not to draw attention to themselves, arriving in isolated areas: behind buildings hidden from the street, in public restrooms, stepping into the street from behind parked cars. The key is to blend in, though the metropolitan nature of Leramzen allows for some wiggle room; the locals see enough country bumpkins from all over the galaxy that they're willing to overlook a faux pas here or there from an obvious tourist. Recruits have two weeks before the day of the museum heist. During this time, they should contact their mission analyst, George, but the rest is up to them -- a perfect time to explore the luxuries that Leramzen has to offer. CITY LIFE Leramzen is a highly cultured city, with many museums and theatres, including its prized Lyushny Theatre which homes the galaxy famous Lyushny Ballet. While the natives of this planet are human, recruits will see a wide variety of other life forms in Leramzen, some humanoid and some most definitely not. Try not to stare! The generous stipend will more than allow recruits to take in the sights and treat themselves to a luxury meal or two, but of particular interest should be the clothing and jewelry stores found in the city center. There are shops that cater to any style and taste, including a few bespoke tailors that have a convenient turnaround time of two weeks. In addition to shopping and cultural pursuits, there is an ice rink in the city center, maintained for the long winter season, and horse-drawn carriages that will take passengers on a ride through Leramzen's historic Old Town. This is also a good chance to observe the State History Museum to get a lay of the land before the mission begins. But remember -- don't draw attention to yourselves, so going in all together might not be a good idea. Settle in and take in some sights, and get ready -- because when the mission begins, you never know what you'll be in for. OOC NOTES Welcome to the new mission! [ Anyone just trying to see the museum will be accosted by a large noodle in a ridiculous outfit complete with fake mustache and sunglasses. It's time to get FARCICAL up in here. ] Hey, so. I might have gotten kicked out of the museum, it's not important how or why, let's just say that the guy who works at the gift shop is a total dick—

Anyway. [ He clears his throat, adjusting his dumb mustache that keeps slanting to one side. ] Iiii've been trying to get back in here, for like, an hour now. So, here's the plan, and just hear me out.

You're going to vouch for me, okay? If they ask if I've been here before and maybe got kicked out an hour ago, you're gonna tell them this. You are my assistant and I am intergalactic collector of rare and valuable items, Reginald von Fredericksberry, and I'm considering giving a sizable donation of said rare and valuable items to the museum, but I'm super offended by such an impertinent accusation and if I'm bothered again, hey, maybe I'll give the rare and valuable items to some orphans.

Also, I'm dying. Just throw that in there somewhere. Make them feel really bad for questioning. [ Raising his eyebrows expectantly: ] You got all that? Thoughts, comments, critiques? I feel like that's really solid.

[Some people might be inclined to gently tell Rhys that maybe his plan might not work. That maybe he needs to work a little more on his disguise, or just flat-out tell him that no one is going to buy it.

Twisted Fate is not that man. Instead, he looks over Rhys, listens to his entire spiel, then smiles broadly and nods.]

Well, I think you got a good plan there. [Whether or not Fate actually means that is another thing entirely.]

How long do you have to live, Mr. von Fredericksberry? We should probably consider that.

Ice Rink:

[Sakura is a natural athlete, in spite of her clumsy moments. Which is why of course she looks into acquiring some skates to have some fun at the rink once she finds out about it. She's at least wrapped up warm, with a beanie and scarf, some gloves and her coat over top of her short dress and tights.

She at least has some sort of natural instinct and balance from her roller skates back home but this is a little different, even if she had some practice earlier with Sieglinde's party. So she manages to do okay with the basics, more or less, only occasionally falling over. Resulting in wincing and slowly picking herself back up to her feet. If she isn't skating and inviting others to join her, cheerfully waving them to her in greeting and invitation.]

Museum:

[If she isn't in school what with the missions and all, she can at least keep trying to learn while on missions everywhere. Or so she figures. This could be some way in learning, about the various places and cultures they end up with ALASTAIR. So naturally, Sakura has a look at the museum, curious. So she can be found wandering, possibly being asked about her parents given her age in being out alone.

Step in to help as she stammers in trying to come up with some excuse or explanation, watch her fumble her way to trying to explain in trying not to draw attention to herself or any others of their recruits?]

Shopping:

[Sakura is trying to be practical and stock up on clothes where possible, never necessarily being sure what to expect on missions so figures this is one way in preparing herself. Being dressed for the weather and situations at hand. She's been out shopping before, with Reika and such. But she can't help feeling a little odd about it all the same as she walks through the clothing stores.]

It's not quite the same. I guess I really did get used to Tomoyo-chan making my clothes back home.

[Not that there is anything wrong with these clothes. Tomoyo's just usually have a particular sort of style about them, even the more casual outfits she would make for Sakura besides the ones for her Cardcaptor role.]

Ice Rink

[Having learned to rollerskate in record time, Ban found his bearings fairly easily with ice skates, too. With just a bit of pride in how nimblefooted he was, Ban didn't hesitate to jump right into things with a drink in hand, occasionally spinning and wobbling dangerously after he went on too long. He came to a grinding halt as Sakura passed in front of him and he waved with a bright red face, looking particularly goofy despite how stable his footing was.]

[Dressed in a gigantic parka with an equally-gigantic, furred hood, Fiona is walking down the main drag of the city center, pausing at shop windows every now and then if something (usually sparkly) catches her eye. She doesn't do well in cold weather, accustomed as she is to the deserts of Pandora, but she doesn't want to waste her time going into one of the narrow shops if what they have for sale isn't even interesting.

She is now looking at a very large emerald necklace in the window, and glances around for any other Audentes she might see strolling by.] Hey -- hey, you. Want to help me with something?

b. CARRIAGES.

[Okay, horse-drawn carriages are dumb and fairy tale and awesome, and Fiona needs to jump in one, like, yesterday. Except riding around by herself is too lame for her to bear, so she just unceremoniously grabs the first Audentes she sees by the arm and pulls them over to a carriage.]

Okay, we're best friends now and you're not going to ruin this for me. Driver! Two, please.

He's just getting off of a very lovely, very solitary carriage ride. It's a familiarity to him, rather than a fairytale, so he doesn't understand how refusing her will "ruin this". Or why she's doing this, to begin with. There isn't any time for him to protest, though, she's already calling for a ride for two. He's literally along for the ride, thanks Fiona! Thankfully, airs and graces come habitually to him, and he holds the little carriage door for her and beckons her up and into the body of the carriage. Um, ladies first? ]

i. ice rink

[Kagari has never actually been ice skating--it's not something particularly useful to know for their cases, and it's not as if the MWPSB takes any special pains to provide for their entertainment.

Which is why when he hears about the rink, he makes a beeline for it. It'll be fun, he thinks, and how hard can it be to learn?

...Very hard, apparently. Keeping oneself balanced on a thin piece of metal is more difficult than expected, as it turns out. He falls on his ass repeatedly, sometimes within seconds of each other, and you may or may not have to turn abruptly in order to avoid a head-on collision.

Or...not avoid it, as the case may be. Either way, inevitably Kagari is on the ice again, and he flops dramatically onto his back, sighing.]

Okay, I give up. That is some straight up fuckin' witchcraft.

ii. VR cafe

[Now this, this is way more Kagari's speed. He happened upon the cafe purely by chance, looking for some temporary warmth against the cold (he's yet to update his wardrobe to something more Leramzen-appropriate), but the virtual reality stations immediately become evident, and before long, Kagari's made himself a nice cozy gamer nest with a small moat of snacks and coffee laid out around him to keep the employees from getting impatient. He'll happily spend the rest of the shop's business hours here, but if he happens to spot a member of Audentes during snack breaks or such, he'll wave them over enthusiastically--]

Hey, come play a game with me!

iii. say yes to the dress (pants)

[But of course, he does need to go shopping eventually, if only for his own comfort in the Leramzen winter--but while he's at it, he supposes he might as well find himself something appropriate for that upcoming gala. Ironically, despite being classified a latent criminal back home, Kagari has never been on this side of the law before. There's something weirdly exhilarating about it, especially since the people they're stealing from are spoiled upper crust assholes. Will he be able to pretend to be one without leaking salt all over the museum? Only time will tell.

In the meantime, finding an appropriately rich douchebag-esque outfit. He's attempting to decide between a couple different suits when he spots someone from the team passing by.]

So what kind of look are you going for? I'm kind of torn between the "I literally do nothing with my life except attend these parties because I'm so rich my servants have servants" or the "I have so many more important things to do than be here, all you peons should feel grateful I'm lowering myself to be in your presence"?

A. Finding the perfect outfit...

[The cold registered very low on the list of things that bothered her when they first arrived, so the first thing she'd done -- aside from get her bearings -- was find a place to stay. After tracking down a few random every day outfits -- all tucked neatly away in a couple shopping bags -- she's now stuck pondering between more than one.

Normally her choice would be a nice dress, but those don't always make moving about easy, meaning a suit would better. Unless...]

Perhaps something in between.

B. Skating Experience

[Widowmaker hardly expected her years as a dancer to translate onto the ice very well, so while her balance is at least halfway decent -- she hasn't fallen yet -- her movements are far from as fluid as they are on land. She'd ended up here from word of mouth, a conversation overheard as she was heading back to her hotel after her shopping trip.

She doesn't quite regret the experience, but she's not entirely sure she'll repeat it. Especially if any one on the team happens to pass by and see. She has a look to keep up, after all.]

C. Museum things

[If there's one thing she does well, it's blend in. So she's used this to her advantage taking time to explore what she can of the museum without drawing attention or funny looks. Of course between learning the lay out, she's taken time to actually enjoy the various displays there, stopping to read or look over something.

Anyone on the team that's also decided to learn the lay out will earn a small smile and a subtle wave.]

They certainly don't disappoint.

[If anyone could look like a professional ice skater while drunk off his gourd at the same time, it was either Ban or an actual hero of lore. He wasn't at all dressed for the colder rink. He was barefoot in his ice skates, wearing a half-buttoned dress shirt and slacks the whole time. The maintenance staff watched on nervously, having chided him for going out on the ice with liquor in tow.

Even so, he was doing so well that arguing seemed pointless--that and he managed to skate past the few who tried to follow him, anyway. He slid in place next to Widowmaker once she gained a little momentum, slowing so he could talk.]

[By now, Scott has picked up on the fact that everyone's magitek looks a little different. But since Audentes is meant to blend in, he knows that he can't just find people by their purple-colored uniforms. That would be easier, but that would be a little obvious. Like, why would they be there in the first place? Why would they wear uniforms? He gets going undercover. Definitely.

Unlike his offer for a pal with food, he tries to wing the carry ride thing. When he sees someone checking a familiar piece of jewelry (or if he saw them back in Oska, whatever works best), he'll wave them over by placing his hand up to greet them.]

Wanna go for a ride? It sounds ... peaceful. [Plus, he's eager to try what he can. It's his first mission, so doing that seems important.]

c: luxury items

[The last time that Scott McCall wore a fancy suit, he had duct tape on the inside of it and got it from ... what he was pretty sure was a third-hand store. It was all he could afford. Given the chaotic nature of Beacon Hills, Scott hasn't had much of a chance to really revel in nice clothes and looking fancy since. Being an Alpha werewolf has really killed much of his time to do that.

For this mission, however, he knows he has to dress up at least a little bit. Besides, he's practical. As the only child of a single mother—given that his dad was regularly out of the picture—he knows that whatever clothes he gets here can be utilized later, on another mission. If it comes up. It seems like a usual thing to have.

Right now, he's currently checking himself out, fully suited, just outside of his dressing room. He extends his arms and wrinkles his forehead.] Man, I feel a bit like that—uh, that spy guy? [The name is right on the tip of his tongue. Promise.]

[What a hilarious joke. Giorno's lips are pursed with the effort of not laughing at his own stupid, stupid joke. But Scott was correct: suits are correct, which is why he's hovering in this shop in the first place, so he gives a careful up and down before nodding slightly.]

But you're probably thinking of Bond. It looks like it fits well. Is it tight anywhere?

a: night life (or isolating himself from it)

[Right now, Keith is at the rooftop of one of the hotels that a number of Audentes people are saying at. Sitting in his room is one choice, but the other choice is simple: he can find some heights, check out the constellations, and see if he can come to handle this place at all. The thing is, Keith isn't fond of cities. After Woodhurst, he had hoped they might hit a more rural location. Perdition's Rest was better for that, if not perfect. But Zeta-12? That's what he liked most.

He leans against the edge of the hotel, arms pressing against it, as he squints up at the sky.] You can't even see any of the stars, [he grumbles, and it's clear that, if anyone is there or has joined him, he's noticed them. Keith doesn't always provide someone with the pleasantries of acknowledgement, so this is the best he has to offer.]

Zeta-12 was better than this, at least. [Even with the poisonous plants and falling asleep in unknown places and his grumpiness toward Goo that eventually turned into prolonged fondness.

Yeah, he definitely liked that mission better.]

b: very subtle (museum times)

[Keith is not good at art. In fact, this is probably one of the first times he's been inside of a museum in his life, at least without severe provocation. He just doesn't do museums. Yes, there was a museum at Woodhurst. And yes, he did not go, unless it involved fighting off infected and he didn't realize he was there in the first place—which says a lot. Because he doesn't care for aesthetics.

That's probably why he can be found staring at a piece of art with narrowed eyes, crossed arms, and a tense disposition. He's not here because he cares about art. He's here to prepare for the mission. He just got ... distracted.]

Someone must've spilled their paint on this, [he decides.

Because it's that bad. In his opinion.

[ Knock Out is quickly finding that Leramzen agrees with him very, very well. The natives here may be humans (or human-lookalikes, and really, does it matter at that point?), but he has to admit that humans have always had an eye for style. And here's an entire city that's been given the chance to hone and perfect that eye. He doesn't even mind using his own human mode for this outing, since all the luxuries are so specifically catered to it. He may as well oblige them all.

He's up here for an entirely different reason, and his eyes are on the city lights below and around, rather than on anything the heavens may have to offer. Or withhold, as the case may be. ]

I missed that one. [ Are they talking now? Apparently so. Knock Out's in a good mood, he won't object. ] Zeta-12. Something about gooey babies, that's what I've heard.

[Giorno's very good at blending in. He always has been. He just hates it. He wants to be memorable, not invisible; invisibility is no way to live.]

[Fortunately, he doesn't have to entirely blend in here. Mostly, yes, but he wants to dig his claws into people enough that they let him into the right circles, so he can get the right information. So he allows himself to express himself a little bit. His suit is flawless, of course, but he offsets the plainness of his hair (pinned back and loosely braided, without the customary rolls) with a subtle floral touch. He's noticeable in the moment, forgettable later. That's acceptable. For now.]

[And it allows him to dip his toe into the glitz and glamour of Leramzen properly. He's seen coming and going from the ballet to the shops and back again. By the evening of the third day, he's got invitations in his pocket to a couple of lower-level parties. His smile is impeccable in the elevated company of Leramzen's elite, if a little more shy and reserved than would be in-character.]

[Most of his invitations have plus-ones, so there are more than a few occasions when he interjects into an entirely unrelated conversation with an invitation of his own.] Come to a fancy party with me, [he insists, eyes sparkling. Just met him? Doesn't matter. Come anyway.]

[Of course, if you're shopping--any time of day or night--he's probably there, offering his opinions. Whether you asked for them or not.] Jewel tones, [he insists, or possibly,] More tailoring!

[Feel free to ignore him, but he also probably won't stop anytime soon.]

ii. ice rink

[In an unexpected few hours of downtime, Giorno finds himself persuaded, half by the fact that everyone seems to be going there and half by simple curiosity, to go down to the ice rink. It can't be that difficult to skate, he assures himself; just because he's never done it before doesn't mean that it's hard. He can do anything.]

[Once he gets to the rink itself, his confidence withers a little bit. He's sitting on a park bench for a really unnecessary amount of time, posture perfect and skates firmly seated on the bench beside him rather than on his feet, observing the skaters critically. No, he thinks he won't, thank you. Ice is slippery. Who invented this?]

[Someone please push him out there or he may die on this bench.]

iii. time sink

[He saves the history museum for a day when he's got nothing else planned. He wants to devote all of his resources to this; history is vitally important, not only for the facts it provides but for how those facts are presented. After all, history is written by the victors. He feels certain that he'll learn vital information about not only the history of Leramzen but about the attitudes of its people as well.]

[And he's right, of course. What he didn't quite account for was how fascinated he'd be. Every bit of this planet's history, good and bad and ugly, is fascinating to him. It reminds him of old days in Napoli, back when he'd just learned to read Italian fluently, when he cut his teeth on the simplest history books he could find to try to understand the people around him and how they worked.]

[It didn't help so much back then. But he thinks it's helping now. He's gotten a lot better at it; he understands more about people these days. And something about a museum is terribly comforting to him, to the point that even as the day wanes towards closing time, he's still to be found sitting in front of the display on Leramzen's culture a century ago, smiling faintly as he rereads the plaque for a tenth time.]

I really ought to see if there's an art museum around here somewhere . . .

[ Naruto skids past more than a few times, but only somewhere around loop #5 does he actually notice someone he recognises planted firmly on the bench to the side of the rink. He skates past again, another couple of times while he tries to act as though he hasn't noticed him and also try to convince himself to forget about it, but it's hard to have a good time while you're concentrating on not looking at a specific point of the rink... so eventually, perhaps a few more circuits of the rink later, he makes his way over to lean on the little gate separating the ice from the ground, in front of Giorno. ]

Ya know, it's not as hard as it looks.

[ No hello because he's still not sure how he feels about this guy, but he's doing his best to not be outwardly rude. His expression is plain aside from his flushed face and his cold looking nose, the only inflection of sass being his raised eyebrows. ]

Three things of varying importance.

1. Why the hell does the TIMELINE.exe keep sending us to planets where it's winter. I have seen more snow in the past five months than I ever cared to see the rest of my life.

2. If you're going to wear a tie for the job please, for the love of God, knot it properly. Don't half-ass it, cheat with a clip-on, or try something too complicated the night of. If you're having trouble with it, practice beforehand. No matter what you wear, it should be something you feel comfortable in. That will stick out even worse.

3. Who here has experience in drawing maps? I'm interested in collaborating with anyone else interested in putting together a more detailed map of the museum.

ii: cover story

[Contrary to popular belief: Fugo does know how to dress in a way that doesn't stick out like sore thumb with incredibly tacky neon fingernail art. He just doesn't care to, most of the time. But this mission has called for undercover work and they're not supposed to stick out, so he's falling back to a color palette that would make Bruno Buccellati sigh with relief, cross himself, and offer a prayer of thanks to the Blessed Virgin: mostly black, with the occasional white or gray accents. Even his usual strawberry earrings are nowhere to be seen, replaced by a pair of mild-mannered silver studs.

He's never not going to be noticed; not as a teenager with white hair. But what he can be is forgettable. Hand-in-hand with Giorno's cover as a socialite, Fugo is posing as his personal assistant; he opens carriage doors, makes appointments at shops, buys ballet tickets, bribes hosts to get him reservations at fancy restaurants, takes messages. And, most importantly of all, he slides up to other people doing similar work so he turn the seams of Leramzen high society inside out to see what he can learn about them.]

[He can often be spotted on the outside of the social outings Giorno is flitting in and out of, fingers neatly tapping and swiping bath of forth on a pane of light as if he grew up taking notes this way. He even looks at home in the various boutiques, inspecting suits, ties, and other formal wear with an experienced eye, or on the streets with a few bags hanging off of his wrists. If he spots someone he recognizes from the team floundering, he'll quietly approach them and ask:]

Need a little help? You look lost.

iii: casing the joint

[Fugo doesn't have a lot of "free" time, but what time he does have to himself--he spends most of it at the museum itself. This time, he's equipped with what most of the guides obviously think of as "quaint" paper journal. When he's not writing in it there's a pen stuck behind his ear; if anyone takes a glance at what he's writing, they will find mostly notes about the various exhibits. It would take a lot of reading to notice how focused he seems to be on the layout of the rooms; entrances and exits, the number of windows, any noticeable cameras.

He wanders up and down the halls-- with purpose, but the appearance of aimlessness. And although he's here to learn the layout of the building, he's plainly fascinated by the actual contents of the museum. He's particularly fascinated by a holographic display of Borivosk's most recent military victory over Vyri. He peers down into the display case down onto the surface of the planet where spaceships the size of toys loom over a battlefield if tiny soldiers.]

I'm impressed by the detail here. [He reaches out, fingers activating a small node over a particular ship. A small profile of this particular army's general appears: her portrait stares out at them, her jaw square and unflinching, while her soldiers relentlessly gun down their totally outclassed opponents.] I wonder how they managed to record it.

[ some people get lucky, and find themselves rifted into a discreet restroom in a restaurant, or the little narrow street between two large buildings not often visited by the locals.

and then some people are like lance, who find themselves on the wrong side of luck and calculation, rifting instead into a place that is... less than ideal, to put it lightly.

[ you can't really expect a dancer not to hear wind of the galaxy famous lyushny ballet and not want to do everything in her power to ensure herself a seat in the next showing. of course, with her stipend, procuring a couple of tickets were easy enough, but it wouldn't be much of a story if it were that easy, would it? luckily, olivia had been (rather bluntly) informed of the dress code the moment she bought her tickets, but considering the woman had been content to wear the same tissue-of-an-outfit for her entire life, she's definitely more than a little out of her comfort zone when it comes to fancy dinner theater wear and the like.

which is why you'll find olivia nervously pacing down the long row of leramzen's boutiques, wringing her hands togethers as her eyes dart warily from one window to the next. how in the world is she supposed to know anything about anything??? ]

[ suitable dress (and trappings) procured, it's off to the theater! whoever she managed to rope in with her (which can definitely range from one to everyone — she may have gone a little crazy, okay) then has front row tickets to the sights and sounds of someone completely captivated by the show: from crying at the first curtain rise to literally sitting on the edge of her seat during the more tense moments, to even humming along to the music just as it swells.

( 1 ) understandably, several other theater-goers around them aren't too pleased to have to contend with another show right there among the audiences, so be prepared to deal with quite a few dirty looks and even some sharp shhh!!!

( 2 ) oh, and at the end of the show? of course olivia is dragging you by the wrist to the backstage, clutching her program in hand and hoping beyond hope to be able to catch someone, anyone from the show to beg an autograph from. and maybe sob uncontrollably about how their performance has just changed her life. you know. the usual stuff. ]

What even is a ballet anyways? [ Naruto asks loudly, carding through the shirts on the rail with a highly unimpressed look on his face. He looks almost as unimpressed as the store clerk does as they keep a close eye on his grubby hands pawing at their extravagant silk and gauze shirts.

He's never been to a ballet, obviously, since the dance-form probably doesn't exist in his world, but then he's not really all that interested in dancing in the first place.. or in sitting still for that long. He can tell she's into it, though, if the tense expression is anything to go by. He's hopeless when it comes to fashion but at least he can appreciate pretty clothes on pretty girls??? Right??? ]

1. has anyone used that one line from that one gaga song yet
[ Naruto doesnt exactly have the best track record when it comes to dressing himself. He wears the same orange tracksuit he's been wearing for most of his young-adult life pretty much every day, only swapping it out for something else (no less orange) when it's time for it to be washed... So, around the finely structured dress code of those around him, he sticks out more than a little bit. Usually he wouldn't have a problem with it - sticking out means you're memorable and being memorable means everyone knows who you are - but since the entire purpose of them being here is to not stand out, eventually he stumbles into a nearby extravagant clothes shop with a look of total loss on his face. How's he supposed to pick something to wear out of all this? There's not a single orange garment in here and none of the staff look like they're up for helping this trainwreck out. Come through, Audentes... ]

2. bright lights, bigger city
[ Do you see that huge ass tower up there? Naruto does, and it sure is the first thing he's making a beeline toward after he steps out onto the street. Despite being aaaaaaalmost used to crazy technology by this point Naruto still finds it in him to be amazed every time he sees something even the slightest bit more advanced than what he's already seen, which is why the big chrome tower littered with glittering lights and beaming reflections of the bright buildings beneath it has him crowing and gasping with wonder as he stands at the bottom. He doesn't quit with the noises in the lobby where everything is brushed metal and cold marble, or in the large glass elevator which travels smoothly up the outside of the building, or at the floor before the penthouse where he emerges into what looks like a games bar where each wall is a large window displaying a full 180 view of the dazzling city he's found himself in the middle of.

Eventually he's distracted by the card game taking place at the nearest table to him. It's a game he hasn't played before, but he's pretty accustomed to playing go fish with all his clones so boldly he takes a seat when one frees up. It looks like the losers pay for drinks, but as he informs the patrons of the game he's more interested in them buying food when he wins. Not if. This can either go really well, or really bad. ]

3. if you should go skating on the thin ice of modern life
[ Using chakra control to make sure you don't loose footing on the ice is totally cheating, but he doesn't see that anywhere in the rules and so Naruto zooms around the ice rink like he's a natural. He's performing all sorts of ridiculous flips and twists and spins, and is actually enjoying it quite a bit, too. The attention he's getting definitely helps. Most faces on the rink are turned toward him in the middle, showing off what he can do to various oohs and scattered applause-- That stops, however, when he sees someone backed away from the content skaters, clinging to the edge and looking at the ice like it might bite them. Without a second thought he skids between the circling crowd and comes to a stop in front of them. ]

Hey, do ya need some help? C'mon, it's easy once ya get started. [ Giving them no time to argue he pulls whoever it might be - Audentes or native, stranger or friend - into the steady movement of people around the perimeter, keeping a tight hold on them to stop them from falling on their ass. ] Lean on me, okay? I ain't gonna let you fall!

[ in another life, bruce wayne had a closet filled with expensively tailored suits. his fingers scrolled through wool, silk, cashmere. there were drawers full of only ties, expertly folded by a hand he recognized as alfred's. cuff links had their own place with their own spot. it had all been very rich.

the sensation of trying on some of his clothes had been not unlike picking through someone else's things. like trying to take something that wasn't really his. ( like none of it fit him. ) bruce abandoned the attempt, finding himself more comfortable in jeans and a henley. but they have a gala to attend, and he doubts even the suit he found in his room one day will be enough to get him in.

so he takes to browsing. it's comforting in a way to spot someone else looking equally out of place. and with the staff looking over the new shopper and visibly dismissing him, bruce feels it necessary to intervene. ]

[If you're not paying attention, it is easy to mistake Hayame for a horse from behind. After all, she is indistinguishable from the animal from the waist down... but that doesn't mean she finds it a forgivable offense. As a native girl in the Old Town just found out, after reaching out to pet "the pony".]

Keep your hands to yourself if you wish to keep them.

[Hayame's snap has far more bite in it than one should when talking to a child, and reveals a mouth full of far more carnivorous looking teeth than anything part-horse should have. Immediately the girl begins to bawl, and her parents to begin puffing up in preparation for a protest.

But apparently she was expected to dress formally, to attend a banquet, and that meant she needed to... "shop". It is something she has never done, nor ever imagined doing. Her clothing was provided for her by her masters, and her personal preferences never factored into such things.

Until now. There is a hovering shop attendant Hayame is stoically ignoring, leaning down to somewhat reverently touch the fabrics on display and run her fingers over their softness. How was someone supposed to choose, when they were surrounded with as many choices as this? And where did they all come from? Who made such fine work with such volume?

Her resting (bitch) face is starting to unnerve the attendant. Who glares that hard at fabric?]

[ He's seen more than a few amazing and surprising creatures roaming around the city in the short time he's been here, so when he hears the sudden and brisk sound of hooves - a sound he actually recognises, no less - he turns almost automatically, not really knowing what to expect. His eyes widen at the sight of the woman who towers above him in the alleyway he's standing at the mouth of... For a moment he wonders if she's a native, but he realises that by arriving she's literally kind of just appeared, and recognises the look of shock and lingering distrust that had been exactly what he'd felt when he'd arrived in a strange new world for the first time. He can't not stare though. He's a simple kid from a reasonably simple world, all ninja magic aside, and seeing someone with the lower half of a horse is.. definitely a shock, to say the least. ]

Ah- [ He murmurs, trying to make his words filter in from his brain to his mouth without blurting out something dumb like the word horse and nothing else. Seriously, he's done and said worse. ] Aaaah- are ya new? Audentes? It's a lot to take in the first time, huh?

a. museum

[ In a black dress with a hem cut high enough to bare her legs, Daenerys Targaryen seems like any well-dressed woman surveying a gallery. By the way she is accompanied by a man in a scarf, however, it seems that her efforts to learn the layout of the museum have not come without some cost.

Presently, he prattles of the existential trauma inherent in the piece of a man's head in some overly twisted iron sculpture, staring intently at a triangle made of wood. She smiles politely, listening as her gaze settles over the paintings in patient admiration. Once every turn, however, her eyes flit surreptitiously over the wine glass she carries, tracing staircases. She admires the latticework in the roof above, and tries to place where doors might be placed beneath items of value.

When he invites her to some fancy coffee shop, though, she politely declines. I thank you, but no. Some other afternoon, perhaps. Someone else from Audentes has caught her eye as a final means of escape, and she joins them willingly, the heels she wears softly clacking in her wake.

They stand before a three-wall panel of red paint on canvas. Literally. ]

What do you see in this piece? [ She asks sweetly, hoping to deter any further coffee invitations. ] Some futility?

[ To hear the man tell of it, they are surrounded by futility. It seems a sound guess. ]

b. time for dessert

[ Mid-afternoon finds the queen standing before a darkened window, her violet gaze roving a little menu displayed on a plate.

Ensconced in the middle of the city, nestled between a restaurant and a store boasting a window display with far too many strands of pearls, there is an establishment that specializes only in chocolate, it seems. Inside, glass cases hide intricately-crafted miniature truffles and cupcakes, and to the side lies a bar, where people sit sipping at chocolate-infused drinks. Dany has had chocolate only once, but the memory of the sweet favor has lingered with her enough that she has stopped to ponder her stipend, and the wisdom of indulging.

She is so engrossed by the cupcake section of the menu that she scarce seems to notice (however different the truth) the arrival of her new companion. Even a queen of dragons, it seems, may still find herself enchanted by cupcakes. ]

He's too caught in his own world of taking inventory of any vents, cameras, and grimacing at the art in front of him to really notice that a teammate is nearby and that she's also being pestered by someone. Sorry about that, Dany. Used to his own world for many years (even while attending the Garrison), he tends to fall into old habits when he's left alone like this.

He does notice when she's suddenly next to him, and he briefly looks alarmed.]

[The good thing is that Keith is blunt enough to accidentally say the right thing when he's irritated about activities like ... say, staring at art. Art is really boring. There's more to see in the real world. They should be working on that.]

01, AN URBAN TOUR.

[ Ninurrta spends a sizable amount of his time "on the town", as they say.

Compared to some, he's dressed far more lightly than one would expect someone to, in the dead of winter. The cold doesn't bother him anyways.

A. The very first night, he takes in one of the shows at the Lyushny Theatre. Two or three encores in, and he's coerced the staff to allow him to meet the divas and darlings of the stage. All it takes is the right application of etiquette, manners, and a very extensive vocabulary to suggest that he's someone of relative import. Wearing the most winsome smile, he can be seen with a flute of something alcoholic and bubbling in his hand - waving down the teammate he's just noticed lingering nearby. He's clearly on his third flute of drink, by this point, and one of the dancers ( made of more sparkle than s/he is anything else ) is hanging onto his arm to keep themselves from toppling over. Welcome to the after-show pregame. ]

Hello! [ there's no escaping, now that he's addressed you -- ] This is Siroezhkin, who is telling me about a wonderful party where everyone who is anyone may be.

B. On his late afternoons and early evenings, though, he spends his time touring the city. Weaving in and out of shops ( visibly dissatisfied by the cut of cloth in one store ), and purchasing delicate odds and ends for his gala outfit, at the museum. In the midst of one such spree, with bags laden over his wrists and forearms, he stops by one of the street vendors - taking some time to purchase a pair of steaming buns and something that looks like hot cocoa, but tastes nothing like it. And he does this. A few times. He keeps going back to the vendor. This is his fifth bun, please stop him.

C. And somewhere in the midst of this all, there are children. Barely up to his hip in height and wobbly-legged, but they've trusted him enough to put their hands in his and he's spent an entire day leading them around one of Leramzen's many, many ice rinks with enough skill to suggest that he's very used to the ice. As the children are being gathered up by their parents or guardians or older siblings, he's left to make his own way off the ice. And to pause -- ] Did you want a go around?

He's alone today and nearly makes it through the day without running into anyone from Audentes... until he sees Ninurrta's swishing braid ducking under the canopy of the steamed bun vendor's stall.

It's funny. Ninurrta hasn't changed much at all, but the air about him is so completely different that Jin nearly bypasses the boy the first time. He's content to watch him quietly... and then Ninurrta loops back to the bun vendor twice.

( it becomes very evident, after observing Peter in the process of shopping than no less than a minute, that Peter is very uncomfortable with the prospect. his converse sneakers and worn sweater-sweatshirt combo sticks out like a sore thumb, and realistically he knows he needs to pick up some more stylish duds to make it through this mission. that doesn't seem to make it any easier to find things he likes.

does he need to learn how to wear salmon colored shirts? why did they even make salmon colored shirts? what even went with a salmon colored shirt? why was he so stuck on salmon colored shirts? when a shop assistant passes him to try and offer him a matching tie, Peter's instant response is ) Oh god. Please no. ( someone save him before he's thrown out for being an affront to fashion. )

B.)
( Graham, on the other hand, is a better fit as far as the expensive shops are concerned. he looks good in mostly anything, and it seems whenever he walks in the door, there's a silent thrill through all the employees to get a chance to dress what looks like a human mannequin come to life. he seems to enjoy the tailored waistcoats and velvet jackets.

( he seems to contemplate his own question, before lifting the green to test it in a mirror, silently evaluating how it looks a moment before deciding, ) I think I quite enjoy green. ( there's a lot to see in Lezamzem. and Peter is not particularly drawn to the art museums or the history museum, if he's honest, though he's willing to be dragged there in tow by a friend. there's one thing that he can't quite escape, though, something familiar about the sheet of polished ice in the city center, people ghosting around the ice hand in hand.

he's not on the ice, actually, just leaning against the retaining wall with a slightly wistful, nostalgic look on his face. the last time he'd been ice skating, it'd been back home, with a girl he'd only convinced to try it after promising her hot chocolate. it's bittersweet to observe now, yet too nostalgic to walk away from at the same time. so instead he stuffs his hands in his wool coat and watches. )

B.)
( as is often the case with a new mission, they're offered a bit of time to make sense of the locale before the real thrum of the mission begins. given the opportunity to explore, of course Graham finds the horses in city center first. whether he's newly dressed in some nice threads or not, you'd better believe he spends plenty of time rubbing velvet noses and having conversations that nobody else can hear. it's fine, he just sounds like a maniac, who would ever believe that the horses could answer?

still, he can't spend all his time in husbandry, even if he already misses his brother and it hasn't been more than a couple of days. once he pries himself away from the horses, Graham decides to spend some of his time at the ballet as well. he heads there with Sakura in tow and while he doesn't know exactly what to expect, he seems to enjoy the show all the same. it's not something he's ever experienced before, and while it's perhaps not something he completely understands, it's undeniable how beautiful it is. it'd be easy to catch him during intermission, or after the show is over for the ride home. )

[The restroom in one of the many lavish garment stores seems relatively quiet, with dim lights and tall mirrors, almost impeccably clean. Not a napkin or elaborately placed soap dish appears to be out of place, and it seems as though the custodial staff has been meticulous in keeping the place tidy. That being said, if you happen to find yourself flushing a toilet and hurrying to exit without turning on the water from a faucet-]

[An impudent voice calls out from one of the seemingly locked stalls, annoyed.]

III: (VANILLA) ICE... SKATES

Hehe.

[A new England native, Asher is no novice to the ice skating game. He's spent many an evening out and about in rinks like this, often with girlfriends or family members. While his form leaves a little something to be desired, it seems as though he is oddly intent on creating some sort of pattern with his skates, mulling this way and that until he is finished.

After a good deal of time being spent, he finally spins around and halts to a stop, pausing to admire his work, which happens to be the outline of this particularly heinous creature. With a douchey nod and a broad smile, he utters:]

Suh-weet.

IV: MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DO(ES DUMB SHIT)

[Asher finds himself wandering through the history museum, searching for whatever clues he can find.

Just to keep from being suspect, he's taken his time dawdling, purchasing a glazed pastry from the nearest food kiosk. Contrary to popular belief, he loves places like these. His mind is filled with various facts from monuments he's seen in the past- Mount Rushmore is visited by almost 3 million people annually, the empire state building is 102 stories, and one of the oldest still-standing homes in Staten Island was constructed sometime in the late 1700s. These little tidbits of information have only one thing in common: They are all relatively useless.

After taking a bite out of that doughy, extraterrestrial treat, he stops in a room full of artifacts, captivated by one particular object. An array of glass displays lie before him, each containing a different shaping tool from the planet's supposedly early days. There is one that stands out amidst the more crudely constructed things- A blade carved out of stone with intricate floral detail inscribed on the handle.

He inches closer, hand hovering over the plaque, scanning to read more about the lovely dagger's origin.

How strange- While the other little info cards seem to provide gratuitous little histories regarding each and every item's location of discovery, this one merely is listed as UNKNOWN.]

That's weird.

Right in the middle of the sidewalk where he'd been innocently waiting to cross the street in desperate search of a shoe store (because might as well start the nice clothes buying now...), sole frozen solid to the thinly slotted metal laid across the walkway. Stuck flat as it is, the boot's just a little bit too stiff to tug his foot out of. He's right in the flow of foot traffic. Wriggling. Yanking at his still-wet slowly numbing leg. People are staring. And then quickly avoiding eye contact once he turns a pleading look on them. ]

[ Alright, he's got nice shoes, he's got nice clothes, he's even combed his hair into some kind of swanky, look how fucking cultured he looks, he's gonna go be cultured somewhere while he can stand it. Like a museum. Museums aren't really his thing, but the sciencey Terra Felis ones had been neat enough, and admittedly the thought of what might pass for art in an alien universe had him a little curious. ]

I. Dress to Impress
[It hasn't taken Eight very long to notice that his cadet uniform stands out like a sore thumb. As someone with actual experience with covert operations, it's a problem he's quick to identify and take measures to remedy. Much as he's very reluctant to give up wearing his typical clothing, he'll have to put it aside for now.

...But they'll pry his crimson cape out of his cold, dead hands.

Like any member of Class Zero, Eight's not unfamiliar with formal dress. The cape he so often wears as a scarf he'll just repurpose as an ascot, he supposes... Provided he gets that far. He's never gone shopping for these kinds of suits, and the way he circles around the store he's found himself in like a shark might suggest as much.

II. A Learning Experience
[Eight hits up the museum with the intent to get the lay of the land. Without the intelligence resources that Rubrum had always provided before missions, he feels more or less left to his own devices. Having the time to prepare, it doesn't take him long to locate the building and pay it a visit...and hope others do the same or they're not going to get very far with their objectives.

He fully intends simply to learn what he can of the structure, possible points of entry, and security. That's the plan. But when he enters the building, a world of new and strange things stretches out before him, and Eight's struck with the reminder of what he'd once proposed to his siblings.

How about we study something else besides fighting?

The words bring with them a gnawing ache, and he shakes the thought off. He's got a mission. Until he finds a way back to them, he's got to focus on that, and that alone. That's what he tells himself, and yet...

And yet every now and then, he pauses in front of an exhibit and wonders what the others would think. What they might say. He's rooted in this strange reality he's found himself in, and yet to any onlooker, he seems worlds away]

III. Skewed Perspective
[Sometimes Eight just wanders. He's never been in a city of this size and had free reign to roam it, but the uneasy feeling he'd had back in Ingram is much the same as what he contends with in Leramzen. Remaining idle has never been something that Eight's been a fan of, always reminding his classmates to keep up with their training and always devoted to improvement himself, so he covers quite a bit of ground.

Not much halts him, except for the occasional oddity... Like some kind of transport being pulled around by creatures he's never seen before. It's enough to make him stop and stare, if only because from the shoulder down those creatures look an awful lot like the lower portion of Hayame's body, and that's just.

It's really, really weird.

I. Local Delicacies
[The first order of business for Haise is always getting acclimated to the new surroundings. As a man who doesn't recall ever leaving Tokyo before his recruitment, there's always a period of adjustment when they enter some new urban setting. While he's accustomed to such places there are undeniable differences between them, and blending in necessitates understanding these.

Of course, he's pleased when the presence of bookstores isn't among those differences, and the moment he spots one he ducks right in. With a staircase spiraling up from the center of the entry level, he can be assured there are quite a few books to choose from here, and he proceeds to wander about like a kid in a candy store.

The titles are, of course, completely foreign. But with their magitek, he can read them despite the unfamiliar language, and so he mills about collecting books to check out. Don't mind him as he gets entirely absorbed in this]

II. Old Habits
[It doesn't take Haise very long at all to find himself a local coffee shop. All he has to do is follow his nose. The scent is a little strange, ostensibly foreign and not quite right, but it isn't unpleasant. To his senses, that's all that's necessary to ensure that it's something he can ingest without becoming violently ill, and so he takes his newly acquired books and seats himself at a small table in the corner.

He seems quite content to read, bags stationed under his table as he cracks open one book and settles right in, a steaming cup of coffee on the table before him. Every now and then, though, one might catch him peeking over the top of his book in a manner that he fancies to be covert. It isn't — not if anyone is watching him, anyway.

Some things never change]

III. Inquiring Minds
[Haise doesn't spend all of his time either being a bookworm or maintaining his appearance as one, of course. They have so much unstructured time to themselves that he'd be remiss if he didn't spend some time employing his skills as an investigator. Sure, he's not looking for ghouls here and their target is a stationary object they're not yet pursuing, but that doesn't mean he can't look for more information.

He begins of course with the museum itself, hoping to get some sense of the background this place has. Many of the books he'd purchases were similarly concerned with history, and as he makes his way through the building he occasionally pauses to procure a book from one of his shopping bags and leaf through it. Comparing notes? Absolutely.

It feels to him as though they've been given barely any context, which isn't anything new. But when they're expected to pull off a major theft, he'd like to have a better idea of the how and the why of the place]

However, because of all the people on Audentes, Urahara has one of the least inconspicuous fashion senses, catching him outside the tailor is probably exciting and maybe worthy of supervision to make sure he doesn't end up in forest green pinstripes or something.

[Urahara is an easy-going person by nature, but he's also a curious one, and curiosity tends to lead to some polite observation of the local color. It's amazing to see so many different kinds of people, isn't it? I'm sure it's nothing new for those of you who've been doing this for longer (especially those who aren't human themselves!) but I've only ever lived on Earth and known humans. I never thought I'd get the chance to meet aliens for real!

[The tailor is... not at all what Peridot expected, and she's actually quite uncomfortable having herself measured while the salesperson purses her lips and tries to suss out her rather... odd measurements.

[Peridot isn't an idiot- she knows the difference between "gems" and Gems, but that doesn't change the fact that the jewelry stores are a bit... uncomfortable (never mind that every time someone mentions the diamond they're supposed to be stealing, she flinches). She's only here out of morbid curiosity, and... well, things sort of escalated.

But not in a bad way this time. In fact, Peridot seems to have attracted a horde of admirers, fawning over her gem.

"Look at that cut! And it's so big! However did you afford it?"] You could say I was... [She holds her hand up to the side of her face like an anime villainess which she definitely, definitely picked up from Mettaton] ...made for it.

[The spectators chortle, more because she's a dork with equally dorky charm than actually finding that line to be clever.

At any rate, there's quite the fuss going on in this little shop and Peridot's right in the thick of it. It's probably a good idea to make sure she isn't blowing Audentes' cover, right? Of course right!

Or make sure none of these assholes try to jump her later to try and steal the GEM THAT IS ATTACHED TO HER FACE. Some of these people look less than pleasant.]

[Even amidst all the hustle and bustle, it's hard to miss the out of place green person, seemingly entertaining (or showing off?) to a very interested crowd of on-lookers. A person who looked like they were wearing a sizable precious gem on their forehead.

It takes some elbowing, but slipping past the small crowd of admirers, Ratchet decides to try and handle this quietly, worried about the less than savory people who seemed to be milling around, eyeing pockets and purses as much as they were the gem. If he manages to catch her eye, she'll see a very out of place looking alien shaking his head at her.

[So, as everything was perfectly fine between them, absolutely, totally, completely 100% fine between them and they were totally on the same page, Owain was absolutely thrilled at having the opportunity to hang with her while talking about unimportant things that didn’t matter. Forbidden topics included their friends (except in the most vaguest and inoffensive way), their family members (except Aunt Olivia, and that was mainly just talking about how, wow, she’s so young and it’s weird, she just keeps on getting younger), and basically anything that related to Ylisse in general.

That basically left them with the job (forbidden here) and shopping so yeah, there they were, shopping.] Lucina, do- [n’t get that bright lime and orange flower print dress, I don’t think I could face Aunt Olivia if I let you.] Oh! ■ I. THE RIGHT LOOK

This mission in fashion alone is far more to his tastes than the last, less garish and much easier on the eyes. It isn't perfect, still not his first choice in fashion sense, but he'd definitely take this world over the last any day. Not a terrible second mission, and hopefully one with a far more artistic use of his skills. Less artless killing, and certainly stealing a diamond would mean that.

At the very least what it all meant was that he got to do some shopping for clothes that weren't within a realm of colours and patterns that shouldn't ever exist. The stipend could have been better he thinks, but he has grown accustomed to unlimited funds. It should be more than enough to find something suitable.

Though none of that stops him from letting out a sigh as he looks through the stores. The clothing is good, fashionable, not of terrible fabrics, but nothing really catches his eye. Shopping is going to take much longer than he expected.

"It should not be so difficult to find something perfect."

Maybe he'll have to get something custom done.

■ II. YOU CALL THIS ART

A visit to the museum is a must. Not just for the mission, but Jhin's not about to pass up the chance to view what passes for art in this world, nor the history of it. Learning of this world was important, learning of the museum itself more so. The potential of art or perhaps some inspiration was a bonus, though it is what he's far more interested in.

For the most part he can be found quietly reading over the displays, and criticizing just about every piece of art he comes across. None of this art is up to his standards.
